I built a really heavy duty stablizing unit a few years ago that would take up to 6000 psi, ofcourse a three hundred gallon air compressor would only push it to about 120PSI and the vaccum part of it was a 2 piston suction run my a 2 horse motor. It would get up to 29 inches and then hold as 28. Great stablizer. the issue was the material. I exsperimented with everything except what K and G and the other stabilizing pro , that stuff is 100$ a gallon IF you can get it. But i tried everything else readily available from Minwax to pentacrel and non of it worked every good as the stabilizing matrix. In the end the hours i put into that unit, hours and money I put into using it and not being happy with it i realized i was saving money buying the block from KandG or where ever, professionally stabilize. Just my 2 cents. Its a really neat machine i bit, and just sits in a corner now...

Yea, do you Kevin? Many people havent seen alot of Kevins work outside of working cowhands but IMHO Kevin is the "worlds greatest unknown braider" Id put him close to that for Saddle making as well.

Here is another cheap light set up. The use of mirrors and reflectors can be used to direct and add emotion to a photography or simply bring light to a area that the lamps arent hittting as well as take shadows out of a shot. Personally I beleive anyone doing a craft like leather work, knifemaking jewlery making will benenfit greatly from high quality photos of work, especially in a detail craft like leather work. Even though my photos are far from professional yet I notice a larger amount of customer requests when I got a decent camera (200$ is allbut options i needed) and took more care in my photography skills.

Very nice stuff!! Here is a simple light box, A light tent will work fine ,like a white bed sheet. Many things will work a s a light diffuser , its the right bulbs and photo editing that makes a quality photo though. Notice "daylight" Bulbs. I often get good photos fromJust going outside at about 11 am. Tossing a bed sheet tent over the item im going to shoot and letting the sun be the light source as it DOES have the correct light spectrum. With the sun behind the item im going to shoot, item between camera and sun, one can get suprisingly good photos especially on a bright day..Makes editing alot easier to cause the light is more correct and natural. My 2 cents Thanks to Sharp by Coop, a professional knife photographer for the set up and photograghy education.

Mine isnt to tight, its close but not quite touching, it can happen for sure but the neck is bolted on from the back, and there is a truss rod in most tele necks, I dont see a tight guard puching a 3 foot plank out of wack, for one to be THAT tight I doubt one could get the guard on to begin with

You can buy a pick guard and use it as a template, they aren’t expensive but i suggest you get an actual fender tele guard to use as a template as knock off guitars often don’t fit the bridge plate, neck pick up of neck pocket very well. I build custom teles once in awhile and have had this issue a lot with different companies, as well as some knockoff teles have 5 hole, 6 and 8 hole guards for screw holes. Pete is correct Teles and leather guards and full leather covers have been in style and popular since at least the early 70`s. Waylon Jennings is a prime example of this as every tele he played was full leather covered. Tele plays are a VERY close nit community across the world and real real good leather work for covers and guards is spread fast and I often thought would be a very prosperous niche. Dragons I doubt would go over real good on a tele, it’s a "traditional" guitar and MOST, not all but most players are going to be traditional, you’ll not find a lot of shredders on a tele. You’re talking traditional country, blues, jazz, rockabilly and classic rock crowd. Not really your dragon and sword crowd. If you wanted to do figured carving, I just had a though of classic cowgirl WW2 style pin up girl would be huge if done well.

Sheath is butterfly style pouch
Romey replied to Romey's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Yes everwhere you see the stitching is welt. The idea of a butterfly pouch sheath is to make a much more accurate fit to the blade and hence doubley secure fit. As any leather wears , its going to stretch due to use, rain weather ect. So the better the welt follows the contour of the blade the better the fit will last, I HOPE. This is my first butterfly sheath by the way, generally for this style I do a regular pouch style but certian blade shapes warrent this style over a standard pouch so I figured I may as well start here. The one thing I hate more then anything is a loose or ill fitting sheath. I guide hunters in the fall and one time I got into a wreck horseback and as horse and I fell the knife came out landing next to me. This was no close call but it could have been a death sentance had I landed on it. Looks is one thing and I know Im still in learning of stamping and such but the first thing I made sure I learned was how to make a VERY secure sheath. -
the number of gun and knife accessories
Romey replied to leatheroo's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
I see "cowboy" style cellphone all the time. Cowboy and rustic regelia is very much in demand. Cowboy mounted action shooting for instance and SAAS shooting is only outdone in growth of members as far as a sport under Mixed martial arts for new sports. Also id guess there be more leather craftsmen in the world of highand low skill then anyother time as far as embellishing leather -

Although I am a proponent of having instructional DVDs to go back to i thought i would share this link. Many of you may know about it but some maynot. http://smartflix.com/store/category/49/Leatherworking They have my friend Chuck Burrows videos for rent via mail as well as others and about any topic on would need. I for one hate buying a instructional anything and find out its not worth a dang and this maybe a great option for those who would like to see some somewhat eclectic videos without the need to buy. Many of these i have seen and glad i didnt buy, especially the knifemaking ones and this is a good way to find out before hand.
