Very nice. I cant tell if you did or not but i would suggest you always put a welt in the seam so drawing the knife in and out doesnt cut threads or in your case the braid. Another thing, never store a carbon blade in a leather sheath, for that matter even stainless steel can rust. The moisture in the leather alone is enough to surface rust a blade. I provide a padded zipper case along with sheath for the knives i sell just so a person has place for storage.

My friend Chuck Burrows of Wild Rose Trading has a couple vidoes out. He specializes in sheaths and holsters, the videos take you from newbie beginner to very high end work in a short time. Most of all the way the video was shot and his teaching style is bar none, He also is likely the top 2 or 3 most knowledgable leather workers I know of. Here is the link on his site to the vids.Sheath and Holster DVD No i dont make a dime from sending you there , I just personally have the DVDS and compared to others instructional videos I have seen this is as good as it gets. Tell him Romey sent you

Your very welcome, One thing i did that the tutorial doesnt show is adding a spring around the bolt so one has pressure opening and closing, taking up the slop of the jaws. This way ya dont have to try and hold the leather your sewing , tighten the pony up AND hold the jaws closed.

Barra's Dye Disaster
Romey replied to barra's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
yup, steel wool, iron fillings ect, any sort of iron. This was used not only as a leather dye but a wood dye as well on rifle stocks way back in the day. early 1800s. Steel Wool + Vinegar ==>Iron (II) acetate (aka Ferrous Acetate) Iron (II) acetate + Tannic Acid ==> somehow makes black leather Other homeade dyes are Tabacco dye, Walnut husk made dyes, ect. Leather has been around alot longer then the fancy factories we got that will make the dyes for us.
