  1. Employees? Uh, no. I'm talking about in the U.S... may vary elsewhere. THE ONE thing to consider here.. insurance. #2 is more insurance. If you have employees, then you're going to have federal laws requiring you to have payroll and withholding - so, getting some help may in fact require getting more help. And your insurance will need to cover them in the event of accident, injury, disability. And keep in mind that any injury / accident / etc need not be legitimate... just an accusation and thousands of dollars are tied up in legal fees. Seriously, I've seen people who hurt themselves moving furniture on the weekend, but waited until Monday to go to the doctor so they could say "it happened at work". If you have "help" in the form of independent contractors, or even just the gal up the street who happened to not be busy between 9:00 - 3:00 while the kids are in school.... you'll still need to provide insurance for the time she's in your property. Payroll is somewhat simplified, though. Couple kids up the street who want to make a little cash for sweeping floors, taking out trash, and mowing the grass? Now you have child labor laws to consider ... This could go on virtually forever, but I'll just say that I do not employ anyone, nor do I intend to. Been my experience that the "good" workers are already good workers -- meaning they already have jobs. There are exceptions, but as a rule those "looking for work" have one or more reasons why they aren't already working. EDIT: If you want to "hire out" something, probably fine hiring web designer, accounting services, attorney(s), and others who need not be physically present ...
  2. Yep, some them youngsters doin' really nice work. Open mind, really -- some of us old (er) folks could take a lesson! Where is John, from Indiana? Aint seen / heard from that boy in a good while. He may even be old enough to have a beer in some states Kid did very nice tooling (like, in his teens already better than most!).
  3. The 17 is about 1/2" longer on both the muzzle and the grip. Or maybe it's 12 mm? Otherwise, same gun. Glock don't like to change out the tooling at the factory.. just make all the frames the same I've done most of my patterns more than one way. Mostly just cosmetic changes, but sometimes it's an actual "tweak". Or like this one where I used to make it in 8/9 oz, and somewhere along the line I decided I wanted it in 7/8 oz. Maybe I was making something else in 7/8 and didn't want to change out the tooling? Fortunate for the leather 'community', I am the only one who sometimes finds room for improvement -- the rest of you fellas ('n' gals) got it down pat Incidentally, I laid out this pattern and the watermark over it. The watermark takes more 'knowins' .. Sending 'stuff' Jon ...
  4. Thanks When I think avengers, I think of closing a car door... pull that rear slot and swing that pistol butt right on in .... !
  5. Still at it. Just killin' time today between replacing the kitchen ceiling lights, scrubbing the grill, mowing the lawn, and fielding emails ...
  6. And I wasn't upset about it (then or now). I was jus' pointing out that isn't my design. You know, like when the neighbor girl is 'with child', a guy might say -- it wasn't me The color looks great, and the maker and customer both happy, so -- no reason at all to apologize. I've never tried the gel stuff, though now I may have to.
  7. Nope, not my design, sir. I don't like sharp corners or belt slots so far from the rig Still, nice color, though, and that elephant-J looks good as well.
  8. If'n I got pantyhose and nipples on my table, prolly not usin' resolene (or even an airbrush) But yeah.. distilled water and resolene 50/50 ish in a mustard bottle. If it goobers up (which usually don't have time to happen, but it has once/twice) I just pitch it, mix a new batch, off I go ... A gravity feed brush might be a little more sensitive about this, honestly. With a syphon model (the VL) I just 'backblow' the boogers, flush with distilled water.. viola. But then, I have one brush that does nothing but spray finishes, so worst case it gets plugged and I have to ream it out (which has not happened, but I know it "could").
  9. I buy backs, for ALL the reasons Big Sioux mentions -- I agree with all of what she said. Since I don't much use them, then why pay for them? TOO many times, people have been surprised to find I don't order the belly (almost never) and can't believe i just cut it off when I have one. But tell 'em I'll order the side instead of the back (so I get the bellies) and they can have the belly at cost -- and suddenly it's quiet
  10. Yeah, gotta wonder what that 40-year old, 130 lb unarmed woman did to them. I'm guessing it will get worse.
  11. Is that like "trolling" for walleye?@! You have a newer model than mine, but the tips and needles are the same. You wanna make sure that the Tip is lined up correctly before tightening that 'head'. I generally hold it vertical, then when you screw it on slowly the lead angle will line it up right. These are decent brushes and will last forever long as you don't use em for a pry bar.
  12. Nope, neither of those is formed yet And the video is to show how simple that is AND maybe poke a bit of fun at those who love to tell you how "difficult" it is to make a video! A video that looks pretty on the surface but doesn't actually show you what you came to ask is like a classic car immaculately painted. With no transmission AFTER FORMING
  13. There's a "nut"? You may have the VLS model?
  14. Looks good! I like a velcro or elastic "holder" to retain callculators / phones / such, just since the leather will likely outlive the electronics. Still, I like what you did here!
  15. How small is your tip? I've never had any trouble blowing full-strength dark brown and chocolate through a #1 tip with Paasche VL. This one is done with a #3 tip, because I had that one handy and didn't need any precision at all. The one on the table is - I think - the #5 tip/needle, and I do have a couple with the #1 tip for smaller work.
  16. SNIKEYS! I get asked about this type of thing so much that I actually forgot we had this same conversation a few months back. So, instead of going through it again, I'll just bookmark the thread and send a link when somebody asks. Course, that's not a great sign when 4 months goes by and still no answer to the question ...
  17. Nice. Again. Cop shot that guy (who was doing nothing wrong) 5 times. And again. This time 40 year old woman in her pajamas - and SHE was teh one who called police. Taxpayers pay for body cameras and car cameras, but they were ALL turned OFF? ANd the cop who shot that gal wont talk to anybody but his lawyer (seriously, folks -- if you or I did that we'd be accused of "hiding something"). http://www.cnn.com/2017/07/18/us/minneapolis-woman-killed-by-police/index.html Now, I'm not one to call the police, personally. Not much need / use for any of that. Just a tip -- if you're in the twin cities for the superbowl, and have some type of problem, calling police may not be the best way to go ...
  18. HA! I forgot all about that. Back in teh 70's when I was a kid, I saw my Uncle Tom sell 6 of his 7 Cadillacs for $1 plus a glass of beer each. Getting divorced, didn't like her one bit. So he went to the saloon with the titles -- told everybody you could buy a car for a dollar. One guy said 'yer drunk', and Thomas told him yes i am, but I DO have a title and you CAN buy one for $1 (and one bottle). He had one for each day of the week, and sold 6 of them in a day. When I asked why, he said he didn't want that #$!@#!$%!@ to end up with ''em! Uncle Thomas had some money - didn't really need them --- but apparently had some issues as well REALLY REALLY didn't like people telling him what he can or can't do with his money.
  19. I never did understand getting a separate product to thin or clean up dyes. Most places where dyes are sold ALSO sell the thinner. Comes already in it's own bottle, clearly labeled, and MADE FOR these dyes. Forgetting about the health considerations with denatured... (which are severe)... it just seems like a lot of trouble to save $10.
  20. #!@$!~@~@@#$!!! Okay, getting over and around some things. Today, we're back on the junk mail. This time it's American Express and State Farm Insurance. I'm not a member of either, and I've previously declined multiple offers from both. I put a board on the side of the bird stand for the squirrels to sit. Told teh wife keep ONE car. Decide teh one you like best, sell the other. We aint a car lot. I have socks. They're all white. And no colored strip at the top, causing them not to match. They ALL match. Now, to send that State Farm guy some interesting offers from American Express...
  21. Exactly what I'm talking about. What gets me is the guys (plural) who have seen a dozen videos about something, all say the same thing, and their response is to make another one! Different music playing doesn't improve the video, fellas ... I'm just saying that IF you have searched and found legitimate content, how bout makin' a list somewhere so the next guy don't end up doing the SAME search all over again. Having said that, a while back somebody sent me a link to another of Sam's videos. Still some good stuff in there, but I didn't find it nearly as useful as the one I posted. Still pretty good, but I didn't add it 2 reasons : 1) it didn't have new content, and 2) if you viewed the first one, simple to find Sam's channel and look at his others.
  22. Git my own coffee. Hmm.. Git my own coffee. Wait -- vague memories comin' back now ...
  23. Check in teh services section -- there are some, just maybe contact them for details. http://leatherworker.net/forum/forum/88-services/
  24. Fortunately, if you "miss" -- we aint talkin' about a bunch of money. I still pitch one every so often
  25. Wayne - leaving to the post office shortly But you got the phone # anyway ... TWO videos I'd like to see, if anybody done already searched 'em out. The one where somebody shows me how to determine the sizes/proportions for curved pancake holsters #curvedpancake The one where somebody shows me how to make a holster without using a pattern at all. Maybe both in one video? Or separate, either way. Wait.. there's THREE I'd like to see... cuz nobody believes I'm not gonna go watch those gunslingin' gals in the saloon again!
