Yeah, gotta wonder what that 40-year old, 130 lb unarmed woman did to them. I'm guessing it will get worse.

Is that like "trolling" for walleye?@! You have a newer model than mine, but the tips and needles are the same. You wanna make sure that the Tip is lined up correctly before tightening that 'head'. I generally hold it vertical, then when you screw it on slowly the lead angle will line it up right. These are decent brushes and will last forever long as you don't use em for a pry bar. -

Nope, neither of those is formed yet And the video is to show how simple that is AND maybe poke a bit of fun at those who love to tell you how "difficult" it is to make a video! A video that looks pretty on the surface but doesn't actually show you what you came to ask is like a classic car immaculately painted. With no transmission AFTER FORMING -

There's a "nut"? You may have the VLS model? -
Finally getting back to it! (Finished portfolio)
JLSleather replied to blink1688's topic in Books, Journals and Photo Albums
Looks good! I like a velcro or elastic "holder" to retain callculators / phones / such, just since the leather will likely outlive the electronics. Still, I like what you did here!- 17 replies

How small is your tip? I've never had any trouble blowing full-strength dark brown and chocolate through a #1 tip with Paasche VL. This one is done with a #3 tip, because I had that one handy and didn't need any precision at all. The one on the table is - I think - the #5 tip/needle, and I do have a couple with the #1 tip for smaller work. -
SNIKEYS! I get asked about this type of thing so much that I actually forgot we had this same conversation a few months back. So, instead of going through it again, I'll just bookmark the thread and send a link when somebody asks. Course, that's not a great sign when 4 months goes by and still no answer to the question ...

Nice. Again. Cop shot that guy (who was doing nothing wrong) 5 times. And again. This time 40 year old woman in her pajamas - and SHE was teh one who called police. Taxpayers pay for body cameras and car cameras, but they were ALL turned OFF? ANd the cop who shot that gal wont talk to anybody but his lawyer (seriously, folks -- if you or I did that we'd be accused of "hiding something"). http://www.cnn.com/2017/07/18/us/minneapolis-woman-killed-by-police/index.html Now, I'm not one to call the police, personally. Not much need / use for any of that. Just a tip -- if you're in the twin cities for the superbowl, and have some type of problem, calling police may not be the best way to go ...

HA! I forgot all about that. Back in teh 70's when I was a kid, I saw my Uncle Tom sell 6 of his 7 Cadillacs for $1 plus a glass of beer each. Getting divorced, didn't like her one bit. So he went to the saloon with the titles -- told everybody you could buy a car for a dollar. One guy said 'yer drunk', and Thomas told him yes i am, but I DO have a title and you CAN buy one for $1 (and one bottle). He had one for each day of the week, and sold 6 of them in a day. When I asked why, he said he didn't want that #$!@#!$%!@ to end up with ''em! Uncle Thomas had some money - didn't really need them --- but apparently had some issues as well REALLY REALLY didn't like people telling him what he can or can't do with his money.

I never did understand getting a separate product to thin or clean up dyes. Most places where dyes are sold ALSO sell the thinner. Comes already in it's own bottle, clearly labeled, and MADE FOR these dyes. Forgetting about the health considerations with denatured... (which are severe)... it just seems like a lot of trouble to save $10.

#!@$!~@~@@#$!!! Okay, getting over and around some things. Today, we're back on the junk mail. This time it's American Express and State Farm Insurance. I'm not a member of either, and I've previously declined multiple offers from both. I put a board on the side of the bird stand for the squirrels to sit. Told teh wife keep ONE car. Decide teh one you like best, sell the other. We aint a car lot. I have socks. They're all white. And no colored strip at the top, causing them not to match. They ALL match. Now, to send that State Farm guy some interesting offers from American Express...

Exactly what I'm talking about. What gets me is the guys (plural) who have seen a dozen videos about something, all say the same thing, and their response is to make another one! Different music playing doesn't improve the video, fellas ... I'm just saying that IF you have searched and found legitimate content, how bout makin' a list somewhere so the next guy don't end up doing the SAME search all over again. Having said that, a while back somebody sent me a link to another of Sam's videos. Still some good stuff in there, but I didn't find it nearly as useful as the one I posted. Still pretty good, but I didn't add it 2 reasons : 1) it didn't have new content, and 2) if you viewed the first one, simple to find Sam's channel and look at his others.

Wayne - leaving to the post office shortly But you got the phone # anyway ... TWO videos I'd like to see, if anybody done already searched 'em out. The one where somebody shows me how to determine the sizes/proportions for curved pancake holsters #curvedpancake The one where somebody shows me how to make a holster without using a pattern at all. Maybe both in one video? Or separate, either way. Wait.. there's THREE I'd like to see... cuz nobody believes I'm not gonna go watch those gunslingin' gals in the saloon again!

Looking for pattern for FN holster?
JLSleather replied to unioncreek's topic in Patterns and Templates
I could have stated this more clearly. You could obtain a pattern, then follow that video, or You could make a pattern, then follow that video, or since you have the gun you could make a holster for it without using a pattern (and this is the video I haven't seen, though it may exist) -

Got my breakfast with garlic, onions, 'n' jalepenos. Feel like I'm coming back to make sure i didn't miss an episode of my favorite show Wait.. did I have some affect on diplomacy and peacekeeping? SAY IT AINT SO - never live that down I'm with ya. Probably off in the other ditch here, though.. I've had more than my fill of people who are very skilled with Fakebook and Instagram, but whose leather skills are -- well, nevermind all that ... No preference from here .. delete it, leave it, whatever. If you think it sounds to others like a couple old women bickering and might somehow discourage the newcomer to teh site, wipe it out - no harm done. All I'm interested in is the list of resources, which is just as easily done in a single pdf (I think). I'm just lazy enough to try to get others to contribute to the list (save me some searching, too!). If your current set up allows for quick and easy removal of the Allman boys while leaving the girls, I'm okay with that NOW.. where's that chubby girl with my coffee ....

So, is there some issue with presenting videos about the topic? Here's as clear as I can make it --then maybe I just go fishin' ... POST a link to a video you feel has value. Simple. Somewhere along the line, we have a list of links that may help other holster boys 'n' girls, saving them hours of searching and weeding out what isn't as helpful. The end. _______________________________________ NOW, just to bounce off other things that somehow crept in like weeds. I'm just going to put this here. I know most like to sneak around behind the scenes. But I'm not one of them Wayne → No worries, man. Mike → So you know, generally ... I'm not "opposed" to paid instruction. But I don't equate price with value. And I'm generally not susceptible to hype and hoopla (including 'name dropping'). Put a price tag on a piece of poop, it's still poop. I once found my buddy had the same shirt I did. I paid $40 at a store. He paid $80 at another store. SAME shirt. His store had a larger advertising budget and more sales people. Those things cost money, which is then added to the price of the shirt. But since none of that improved the quality of the shirt, I saved 50%. I think the difference is that Matt couldn't stand anybody saying that he got his shirt at the less "fancy" store. This is lame, clearly (small man complex on a big guy). But, "a fool and his money ..." I used to know a guy, called himself a contractor (I prefer 'con-man-tractor'). Need a new roof, siding, etc? Call this guy, write a check for $10k. Then he'll call some other guys, have them do the work, pay them $4k, cover the $4k for the materials, pocket the rest. Wait.. I'm paying that guy WHY? No thanks, I'll pay the guy who does the work. (In that particular case, the guy made an issue and irritated me - so I called the crew leader, set him up with his own commercial insurance and estimating software, and now refer HIM to anybody who asks about the work). I do not assume that because "so and so" endorses something that it's necessarily worth more than that poo I mentioned. I've had people who have never seen a cobra sewing machine tell me at length that they are very good and that's the one to get. Anybody not agree that's ignorant? They just parroting what they heard, or read, and that may be from another who didn't know what they were talking about. All of which adds up to -- I'm interested in the actual facts, the actual product - not the story that often comes with it. I know some people like to (need to?) have a receipt for $10k so they can "impress teh neighbors" with how much they spent. Personally, give me teh guy who does my roof correctly And more specifically, ... I have never had anything derogatory to say about your site or your lessons (if that's what you call them). Because I've never seen them. In the event I ever saw one, I would be rigidly honest about what I thought about it -- sell me a good product, I will tell people that. Down side, sell me something not acceptable (content, materials, price, etc) I will tell people that as well. For others who might read this whole discussion which didn't need to happen, Mike and I have never met. I don't feel bad or good about that But my friend Robert mentioned meeting you at some point. Said you were with some gal either had married or were about to ... and he described "seems like a decent guy" , which from Robert was actually a pretty glowing review (he didn't talk that much, and when he did he meant it). He added that he had taken some on-line lesson (something about cobra stitchers?) which he thought was a waste of time and money by a guy who he described as 'awful arrogant for no more'n what he does'. No benefit gained naming that guy here. Long as I'm on that thread.. never met EricA either. Or really discussed anything with him at all. Or seen his products -- other than pics on the web, a couple of clips that appeared in why-tube searches, and as much of the video above as I could take. I know he has some paid products, but I haven't purchased them since I didn't like what I saw for free... just not alluring to me. If teh next guy finds value in it, congratulations - no offense taken Just personal preference, but if I'm gonna watch a video with "no words..." (aka just pretty pictures) then I prefer this one -- pretty pictures AND holsters ..) Best part -- you can FF to about 1:30 it gets purdy good BOTTOM LINE, REALLY... This could have been a beneficial catalog of relevant information for those interested in making leather holsters - tooled or not. The rest of this never had to happen. SO THEN .. I'll continue to bookmark GOOD information, and offer it free of charge to those who ask. Someone doesn't want to use it - fair enough - whatever. I'm a little upset that I've never met that gal in teh cowboy hat (pick one, don't matter which). Other than that, maybe somebody contact somenone who removes these posts (c'mon - you know how to do that) and wipe it out. Whatever. Just don't touch that GOOD video (the girls, for those confused)... everything else will all work out

Standard sizes for making belts
JLSleather replied to Pauls Leather's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Just when you thought it was safe to go back in... The "general rule" is based on the fact that belt size is determined by leather thickness. Here's a tip, so is teh OUTSIDE measurements of a leather case, or a a holster (which is just another case). What happens (not counting the people who just plain lie about their waist size) is that they go by the size of the pants. But that is the size of teh INSIDE of the pants. Denim jeans might add as much as an inch to teh measurement, and this would still be the INSIDE of the belt. And most of us measure on the outside (grain) of the belt. The "rule" is, for each 1/16" of thickness, your belt needs to be approximately 3/8" longer. Assume you are using leather that is not mooshy and stretchy..., then IF measurement over your jeans is 36"... an 8 oz belt (1/8" thick) would be made 3/4" LONGER to teh center hole. and a 12 oz belt (3/16" thick) would be made 1 1/8" LONGER to teh center hole. and 'double 8oz" belt (1/4" thick) would be made 1 1/2" LONGER to teh center hole I could tell a story that would "prove" that, but this is the simpler, shorter version. -
Must be pretty new?? .... never seen it before, but thought I better try it. Just send PayPal for your subscription and I'll be glad to clue you in. Nah.. I'm jus' playin' Looks to be somewhere between dark brown and the chocolate - at least by the picture on teh bottle. I'll post something once I get the chance to use it...
