  1. TX, to put it a little simpler the pitchis the number of teeth or marks it will make , a 7P has 7 teeth and will make 7 marks. The number of stitcheds will be one less then the number of teeth. So a 7P would make 6 stitches per inch.

  3. Like chiefjason said. Robs price at the Bluegunstore.com is $47.99 including shipping. That makes the price of the bluegun about $42.00.
  4. If you scroll down a little further on Reds link you will see the buckle set that looks like the one on her belts
  5. Here is a picture of Jouquin Jackson his rig has similarities.
  6. Just an FYI my Rings G30 measures 1.11 and specs for allll the G30s say 1.27. So it will probbaly come out pretty snug. Red is very knowlagble in holster making and design and has designs to his credit having worked for some major holster manufactures since the 1950's, However he lacks social skills.
  7. Just finished this one (need to do alittle work on the edges yet). Customer wanted a cross draw for concealed carry of his Vaquero. It is more or less based on an Avenger style holster but set up for cross draw. Customer also wanted a thumb break on it.
  8. Ok, looking at the picture closer I do see the welt. Dwight is right about the hammer handle I use one as well.
  9. When I make a holster for fast draw I use two layer glued fuzzy side to fuzzy side any where from 6 - 8oz (each layer) so you end up with a thickness that would be equal to about 12 -16 oz. I lien toward the 16. Do a general forming around the gun, don't do any detail molding. Basicaly you are just forming a bucket. After I wet mold mine I expose it to a little heat to get the drying process under way usually in the oven at about 170 deg for about 10 minutes. Then take it out and let it dry over night (there are many variation on how to dry a holste). You should have a fairly hard holster with out much give. If the holster you have now is too tight, stick your gun in a ziploc freezer bag stuff the gun and bag into the holster leave it over night. Remove the gun and the bag re insert the gun it should be a little looser. If needed do it again with two bags one inside the other and the gun inside the inner bag. sealing the inside of the holster with gumtrag will make a pretty slick surface and may reduce some of the scuffing. There are many products that can be used to seal and protect the leather. One other thought, since your holster is a prototype cut the stitching open up the holster put in a welt re stitch the holster. You should have a looser holster. Also before you do that, since you have not sealed the holster wet it and mold it around the gun open the top of the holster up a bit and flair the opening out a little that wil help with reholstering as well. It is a prototype so you can play with it and try some different things to make it work the way you want.
  10. GianniWest, I will Pm you a little later with a template for the SASS badge with holse placement. ast o style did you want one with belt loop or fold over style. I think I also have a pattern for one with cartridge loops. If you go over to cascity.com leathershop forum and search badge holders you will find several examples. Pm me with your email address if you would like a pattern.
  11. Hopefully the Spammer thing is a joke. David is a well known Leahtercrafter whos leather has been on many movies.. He normaly hangsout on cascity.com leahtershop. He had some custom belt buckles made and had to order them in quanity and is offering What he does not need to fellow leather workers. Nothing more then that.
  12. Bruce Johnson is out of Oakdale CA. here is his web site. I would recomend giving him a cal or email tell him what you are looking for. He is very knowlagble and helpful. http://brucejohnsonleather.com/content/index.php/leather_tools_for_sale/
  13. Unless your going to coat your gun in rubber you will have scratches. Forming the holster a little more around the gun might have ruduced scratches a little and probably cause more scratches in other areas. What did you seal the inside of the hoslter with?
  14. Shooter 55, If your holster drys a little tight take your gun or mold put it in a Ziplock Freezer bag then put the gun or mold and bag into the holster forcing in to the position you want it. Let it sit over night (no wetting of the holster is necassary for this). In the morning remove the gun or mold and reinsert into the holster without the bag, you should have a nice comfortable fit.
  15. SHooter thank you. That was my thought as well.I noticed if I bumped the scales agasinst the way they lay some likfted up I wanted to make sure they would stay dow. My concern with resolene was if it would yellow the python at all.
  16. Most of the concealed carry belts I make are about 1/4". Just simply buy two belt blanks or strips from Springfield or who ever. Get a buckle and a couple of chicago screws and either buy a pre made belt loop or make your own and now you have a kit. Old Faithful Holsters sells a double layer kit that is already stitched but undyed. I have not seen anyone that sold an actual double layer kit. Again it should be fairly easy to put together your own kit.
  17. Timco also has some http://timcocorporat...Rivet & Staples , Ohiho Travel Bag also has an asortment http://www.ohiotravelbag.com/Info/DecorativeRivets.html , conchos .com also has anassortment.

  20. Bluesman, you might try reposting on the holster sheath sling forum. You might get more response. Make sure you reword the post so the repost police don't get you.
  21. Actually harness makers and holster makers in the mid and late eighteen hundreds did have sewing machines available to them. The sewing machine came to life in 1846. Certainly not all of them could get one or afford one but they were out there and were used. Check your library to see if the have packing iron. Also if you have a half price books check them I know several people that have scored a copy of Packing Iron for a decent price. As to Western holster specific inbformation and old time dyes. This site has good information however more western holster specific information can be found over on http://www.cascity.com/forumhall/index.php/board,57.0.html click on forums and go to the leather shop. You will find a topic heading FAQ How to. You will find information on home made dyes including vinageroon, walnut etc. Original borders and many examples of western holsters and styles. The show us your stuff topics have many fine examples of holsters by the makers on that site.
  22. I have on occasion posted in what I thought was an approptriate forum heading and recieved no response then re evaluated the forum topics and posted under a different heading and had luck getting an answer. As far as I know there is no rule against it the effectivness is debatable. As I said it has worked for me.
  23. What you are seeing is what is called Verdigris, it is caused by the reaction of the tanins and tanning salts in leather and there reaction with the brass. It will happen with veg tanned leather as well. That is why you should not leave cartridges in the loops of a cartridge belt, over time you will get verdigris. Texas Jack is correct wax will slow it down but probably won't preventit. Verdigris is one of the reasons that the Cavalry movved from leather cartridge belts to the canvas Prarie belts.
