Blackhawk Demo 1911
camano ridge replied to glockanator's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
The Blackhawk is railed a Comander is not (least I have not seen one that was) THe 1911 is 5" as oposed to the 4.25" barrel of the Commander. THe dust cover lines will be different and again there will be rail lines. -
King Cobra Holster
camano ridge replied to jethro1200's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Do you have a picture of the back. I find it interesting that you say this is your first holster, hoever you list holsters as your specialty:). -
Pasted back is very smooth, no fuzzies.

Sorry don't see a picture above. However I have done Leatherwork for 40 years, all I have ever used is a piece of shearling to rub and buff the finish coat. An even polish will happen if you have an even coat of final finish. What are you using for a final finish.
-
Are you talking about burnishing the edges or polishing the overall piece?

If the dye is soaking all the way through from the flesh side to the hair side you are probably applying to heavy. If you are using a sponge after you dip the sponge in the dye blot the sponge to get rid of some of the excess then wipe on the dye with the sponge. If they are small pieces you might try dip dying. THis would coat both sides at the same time and you should get an even look on both sides.

Have you checked out Quil Ceda Leather in Marysville WA http://www.quilcedaleather.com/2013/01/fur/ Last time I was at Mcphersons Leather in Seattle they had some furs.

Comander is 4.25 barrel the blackhawk 1911 is a full 5" barrel Because the Commander has a full sized grip frame, it shares grips, magazines, mainspring housings and grip safeties with the Government Model. All parts with the exception of the barrels, slides bushings and recoil springs, plugs and guides swap out between the two. Although on a quick inspection, it appears a Commander slide can be placed on a Government Model frame to convert the gun, the dust cover of the Commander frame is shorter to correspond with the shorter slide. The slide will fit, but the dustcover will be too long. If the reverse swap is done, the recoil spring will be exposed.

Yes they do. Rob at thebluegunstore.com has 5% off on orders over $250.00 and 10% on orders over $500.00. He just changed his price structure and shipping is now included. If you know what you want you might check with him Also I think he has a list of the most common ordered Blue guns. THat might be of help to you also. I think Rings offers a quanity discount as well you will have to check with them.

Amazon-Based Tool & Supply Store
camano ridge replied to SLudlow's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
I agree with Matt T. You need some reason for us to come to you rather then Tandy, Springfield, Zack White etc. Will you be able to sell for prices enough below theirs for us to give you our business. What about shipping some of the companies charge a fair amount of shipping yet they do quanity shipping and get bulk rates. Lat I bought a single shoulder shipping was $16.00 that was 1/3 of what the shoulder cost. I give you kudo's for your intent, however all the things you are going to offer are already availeble. You will need to answer the questions why do we want to buy from you? Best of luck to you and I will definitely take a look at your store if you do set one up. -
You can do the stitching without a groove, however it puts the stitching above the surface of the leather and exposes it to friction, abrasion and more contact then it would have otherwise. There are some that stitch without a groove then hammer the stitches flat.

Double Layer Belt Thickness
camano ridge replied to J Hayes's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Most of my carry belts are 1/4" give or take. There are some hoster manufactures with slots not big enough for that size belts. However most of my requests for carry belts are from customers that either have my holster or are ordering a holster from me. So I have not had any problems with fitt. -
Here is a thread from back in September discussing eleather. If you look around I think you will find some other comments about e leather supply. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=50368 There are some dating back to 2006 where people expressed good opinons about eleather, however most of the recent posts have been pretty negative. With experiences like yours ot worse.

Pic is not very clear, however a couple of them are definitely swivel knif blades. One looks like it could be modeling spoon, some of the others look like stylis tips. Bruce Johnson would be a good one to contact regarding info on them.

I have a couple of Blackhawk mold, a J frame and a Beretta 92 have used both and they worked just fine. Size seemed to be accurate the real guns fit the holsters perfectly. Did not know Cabellas had them. Your right the Black Hawk line is limited.

Back Of Leather Is Tearing Up Shirts (Suspenders)
camano ridge replied to FireFighter25's topic in How Do I Do That?
dye the back side (fuzzy side) then burnish the heck out of the back side. Here is a thread with several methods. THe best is to choose the leather with the smoothest flesh side you can find or by pasted leather. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=21578 -
Since it is a finished wallet you will probably have a dificult time getting the impression to take cleanly. Especialy if there is a liner with pocket etc on the inside of where you are intending to put your mark. I have had some sucsess heating the stamp with a heat gun then pressing When I have forgotten to put my makers mark on). You did not say if your stamp is metal or derilin.

camano ridge replied to Red Cent's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
In November I ordered a S&W Shield from Rob (Bluegun Store and got it two days later. On Novemeber 26 (2 days before Thanksgiving I ordered two that were back ordered with a lead time of 10 - 20 business days I recieved them yesterday about 12 business days not bad for this time of year. -
Yes, there are several threads about vaccum molding. Several holster makers use it. Go to the Holster forum I think you will find at leat one thread posted in the last week or so, however there are several others. Once you have your vaccum established and the shape formed you can continue to detail mold if needed through the bag using boning tool etc. Once your shape is set then remove from the bag and let dry.
