I agree that looks like airbrush all the way. On his site he lists them as handcarved stingray seat tatoos.

If you do a search you will find several threads listing tools for beginers. However you will find the list verries because those that have been doing this a while have developed there personal preferences for what they do. The list you have is a good place to start and you can build your list to suit your needs, it won't be long before start I wish I had one of these. If you are mainly going to start out with tooling then you will need veg tanned leather as to the thickness give us an idea of the type of projects you want to start with and we can give you an idea of the thickness needed. If you just want some scrap to practice on, then start out with 5- 6oz. The big thing with tooling is learning to case your leather properly regardless of thickness. Just lookked at your list agin you will need a backgrounder of some sort as well. You will also need and edge beveler whan you start to do actual projects so you can have rounded finished adges for burnishing.

When I do the copper rivets I take my nippers or side cutters lay them pretty much flat against the burr the angle of the cutting edge leave enough rivet above the burr. I make a partial cut then move the cutters arond the rivet a bout a quater of the way and take another partial cut I do this allthe way around the rivetand make my final cut this leave kind of a pyramid shaped end that domes nicely. The other thing to check is if you have a newer setter from Tandy I noticed the newer ones have a deeper wider dome that does not seem to set the rivet as well. The dome is to high and that might be why you have a gap between the top of the peened riet and the burr. I have an older one that does a very nice job, it has a much shallower dome. I will post a comparison picture later. Here is a picture of some that I have done.

Over 1000 I was Force Recon in the United States Marine Corps during Viet Nam and continued skidiving for several years after that. I agree for Military Specs However there are civilian chutes and some of those manufactures do use bonded polyester thread.
-
TX, it probably does not matter however you seem to apriciate accuracy of facts, you might want to update your facs. Bonded polyester thread is used on parachutes as well as bonded nylon thread. http://www.coatsindustrial.com/en/products-applications/technical-sewing/outdoor-pursuits/parachutes

How And Where To Get Horse Tack Patterns?
camano ridge replied to DianeWood's topic in Patterns and Templates
Are you talking about drawing your own patterns? If so use a pencil so you can adjust lines as needed and draw them on poster board, cut the poster board out and use that for laying your cutting lines out on the leather. There are many materials you can use, I just find for that size project poster board is cheap and easily obtained. -
You don't say what width belt however Blackriverlaser.com has acrylic templates for centering and spacing holes for belts. They have a web site you should check out however their prices are cheaper on Ebay. You can for whole spacing use wing dividers, however I have a set of ther tempalates and they are a time saver. The templates are for belts from 1" to 2" width and they have a veriety of hole spacing. There is also templates for belt ends, English point etc. that have set hole spacing built in. If you are doing ranger style belts there are templates for that as well. Edit: Dead link removed

Question About Tandy Pistol Caddy Pattern
camano ridge replied to johnggrg's topic in Patterns and Templates
John, I did find tat pattern, the instructions are vauge in that all they say is to glue the gusset to the caddy flesh side to flesh. Which if you lined up the center marks would mean that you glue at the edge of the gusset and the caddy first one side then the other. JLSleather's way will simplify thing for you in that you are basicaly forming a U or channel with the guset. Did you have a more specific question or problem that you encountered? -
Question About Tandy Pistol Caddy Pattern
camano ridge replied to johnggrg's topic in Patterns and Templates
John if you look at all the topics you will find that there are hundreds of answers willingly given every day. You have asked for help it has been given some what indircetly. The stohlman books show how to install gussets. You can do a search on line I would bet that there is you tubes and other web sites then can give you some insight to doing gussets. Some times you just have to use your own brain and figure things out. This is the type of thing thatis not as popular as holsters wallets etc. Spo there may not be an overabundacne of people that have made a pistol case. I do have that pattern and will dig it up and see if I can see where you are stuck and will offer what assistance I can. However angry tants are not the best way to get assistance. -

Bic Lighter Case Pattern Needed
camano ridge replied to nwdetectorist's topic in Patterns and Templates
Are you looking for a belt pouch or just a leather cover for the lighter. Here is one if you want a western look it fits a BIC and is designed like a holster. You will need to cut a 1/2" strip to size to rivet to the skirt to hold the holster aginst the skirt and form your belt loop. You could also cut slits in the skirt and make it a Mexican loop style. The title of the PDF below says derringer holster on the pattern itself it says for regular BIC lighter.( This has been posted before could not find original post). deringer holster western.pdf deringer holster western.pdf -

Also Over on cascity.com leather shop forum in the how FAQ theree is a how to on cartridge loops that give measurements for spacing as well as how to stitch cartridge loops, how to do woven and semi woven loops. Or you can do a belt slide with loops. -
