  7. Come on Sun - I have leather to tan..... Next time it is out I'm gonna leave a whole hide out in the sun. Can anyone think of a reason this wont work - to “Sun Tan” it Before Tooling?

It will make the leather harder to tool, and it might leave spots of diff color.

      Hey Sylvia - bummer, right?

My best guess...... I see they move the mail around in carts, and they also have a counter in the middle of the main room with slots for recycle paper - cart underneath. I'm guessing that someone was tired and accidentally put the mail cart on the truck for the recycle paper... just a thought.

  11. Ty this - maybe you can make a template from the pictures Fire Helmet Shields Fire Helmet Shield I had not noticed before, but I see there are many different shapes...

  16. Although, you will probably find others have different reasons to do it earlier on their leather... Most times you will find that "slicking the edge" should be one of the last steps, after dying & antiquing but before the finish.

This is such a good idea, and you are going to really appreciate having this around. I made something like this for all of the colors I use and wrote on the back what the dye and antique color is and any dilution ratio. Now when you want to duplicate a color you wont have to rely on memory… which might, in time, be difficult.
  20. I really like your wallet design and I love the way you positioned the Brand on the wallet.
  21. check this out also many others available listed on the right side of this Youtube vid ............... and I have also listed lots of my favorite links on my profile that may be of help... scroll down to see them all. hope this helps
  22. I think you will notice and you will find that there is a lot of variation in how different leatherworkers use the different products. The Fiebings Antique Paste I have is very thick and if the product is diluted, you will find it works as well and the product will last longer - go further... I use water to dilute some of the Antiques, Dyes, and Finishes... A lot of it is personal experience, personal preference. Try it, test it on some scrap and when you get a result or color you like........ well there you are. ps Don't dilute the original container. Use a small plastic or glass jar and use that for Testing and Using the Diluted Antique. It also helps to label your concoction - the color and how much/what you diluted it with.

  25. As far as cutting this bridle out of leather goes, a Strap Cutter will be helpful for the straight parts. If a company makes lots of these bridles, the other parts are probably cut with a clicker and a cutting die. If You are just making one, you draw out the design you want and then transfer the design to the leather and cut that out.
