  6. I wrote this about a year ago and now it is a bit out of date - Below is an Updated "How To Use The LW Search Engine" Click on the star/wheel on the right side of the search box - This is for the Advanced Search (I also always open it in a separate window - so hold down the command key and click on the star/wheel) These are the 2 ways I use this Advanced feature. I search by FIND WORDS or FIND AUTHOR. 99% of the time I use this option…… • FIND WORDS - The way I have found works the best is to use just one word (the simplest) like - airbrush, basketweave, case, checkbook, dye, edge, fingercarving, finish, graphics, holster, ink, knife, lacing, modeling, pattern, sheath, sewing, sharpening, swivel knife, tooling, vinegaroon, wallet, etc… • Enter your word in the Find words box • For the Search in section choice click on Forums • For Display results pick As posts • Click on Search now. There will be all kinds of the posts for this subject and it will show those with pictures...... *** There may be a lot of posts that are not relevant, but I end up finding things I had not even thought of… The other way I use the search engine is • FIND AUTHOR - There are some Verrrrrry Talented Leather workers here and they share pictures of their work and share Very Good tips on various subjects. If you find a post that interests you and you want to find more pics or info by them - take that authors name and enter it in the Find author line. • For the Search in section choice - click on Forums • For Find author - enter authors name • For Display results pick - As posts • Click on Search now. *Not only will you get their posts, but any pictures they have posted of their work.

  10. This is Not leather related but a great tip. I have found a new search engine - http://www.goodsearch.com/ and I really like it. It is a great way to Search and Automatically Donate to your Favorite Cause I especially like their Image Search. Just mouse over each image and it will automatically enlarge without having to go to their website first. I have a special place in my heart for elephants, so I have picked - US Friends of The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust - for my donation site. I know it is only 1 cent every time you use it, but it is fun to see your numbers add up over time and to see the total numbers of everyone that is also donating to your cause. You can pick you own favorite cause to support. There is a large list to choose from… and it is sooooo easy to do.
  11. I used to have this problem too – when making coasters. I tried to use my makers stamp but I found that the process of stamping the makers stamp on the rough side would show through on the grain side – and I didn’t like that. What I did to solve that problem was to buy a rubber stamp from theStampmaker.com. I use this on the backs of all my coasters and anything that is not lined. stamp design stamp used on rough side leather I"ll be interested to hear what others do to solve the problem I hope this helps...
  12. Finished tooling & dying a piece, just ready for the finish and I accidentally scratched it with my fingernail... grrrrrrrr

  14. I was thinking about the Very First leather item I remember getting as a child. It was a pretty pair of Black Patent leather shoes - I remember the smell of those New shoes...

  15. I do hope Raymond's information has been of help I know it was for me......
  16. Wow, just found this thread and now I'm up waaaay after my bedtime - I just couldn't quit reading.......... Just look at how many people have read this thread and responded to it.... The Grizzly Gear guy has wasted Sooo Much Time, and probably money, for others... I wonder - do you suppose this 'tool' has not only accused others but is Actually Making Money off people that didn't know better, or have as good a resource as LW.net to learn about this sort of scam? Is there a place to officially report this guy? Grrrrrrrrr I just hate this kind of dishonest behavior
  17. Raymond Tipton sent me this information and thought I'd share... Raymond sells emboss plates and emboss machines and rolls, etc. on ebay at duckcreektraders and also has a website BUNKHOUSE TOOLS
  18. Have you seen this? Wet Formed Bag Tutorial I think it might help...

  20. The Clicker is a Die Press. The one I have is a 700 Clicker and it's made by Tippmann. the cutting area is 12"x 12" and is powered by a gas air compressor This set up doesn't take up much room, is easy to use, I’ve had mine for four years and I haven't had a single problem with it. Tippmann makes a real quality machine and I use it for cutting and embossing. • I was lucky that when my job was sent to China, that I had some savings. I figured I should be able to make a little money making small leather items... And the Clicker has saved me a lot of time and money in the long run… I just couldn't cut a perfect circle....
  21. I also use the carpenter's razor knife - Thanks to tips I got here...... If I am going to make a lot of one thing then I use my clicker die press, have a cutting die made and then everything is always perfect and there is the least amount of wasted leather. I make a lot of coasters and before I got my clicker I always used a LION EV-R-Round Circle Cutter. Capable of cutting circles from 3/4 in. up to 6 3/4 in. I found this to be the easiest and fastest way to make a whole lot of rounds.
