  1. I know we all have different ways to measure leather thickness but I decided to make my life a little easier and ordered a nifty little guage from Black River Lazer http://www.ebay.com/itm/HANDY-GAUGE-LEATHER-OZ-GAUGE-CRAFTAID-LEATHER-CRAFT-/130978443726?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e7eec71ce

      I have one of those. Very handy for figuring out what is what after you cut off the chunk of hide that the weight is marked on :{

  10. W O W ! Fantastic work/pyrography! I'd like to see a clearer shot of the great design around the top rim or is that Mexican braid/lace? Do you have a website where you sell these? Change the design, or not - I love the design as it is. Awesome, just Awesome!
  11. UP waaaay too late, I have so much I want to do... no time to sleep.

  12. I guess all of us that like to sun tan our leather have the same problem. I couldn't find enough solid information/answers to your question about special lighting and found that the cost to experiment was out of my $ range. What I have ended up doing is just leaving what I want to sun tan on trays on a table that gets the most light and just leaving it there till the leather is the level of tan that I'm looking for. From my experiments it seems that the leather can get tanned even through the clouds... It just takes longer.
  13. Beautiful, as usual.... You have an amazing talent!

  17. Perfect UPS “Smart Post” results for Friday the 13th. Package that was due to be delivered here and Was about an hour away - sitting in Seattle for the last 4 days - is now being shipped across the US. Instead of being here today, in the last 24 hours it has gone to Philadelphia PA and to Jersey City NJ. I am Not fond of UPS or Fedex “Smart Post”. Hope your Friday the 13th goes better than mine…

      Smart Post isn't. I had a package from the East Coast arrive in Denver before heading back--went to Ohio and then circled around Illinois for a few weeks before they finally lost it.

      Ordered from Springfield (her idea). Quick shipping, but wrong stuff. Called and cussed, they said they'd 'fix' it. Sent out a new order, which got almost to Iowa before going to Kentucky (????????????)

  18. That definitely sounds cool - makes me think of a 67 Camero that was Gun Metal Grey that a friend of mine had... I hope your neighbor helps with your project. That couch conversion is a great idea and will look good in your man-cave / leather shop! Best of luck with that.
  19. Hi Ralph I noticed you weren't getting answers to your questions and I thought I'd mention There has already been lots (tons) of info and pictures posted about this already and a little searching in the Search Box up there in the upper right corner of the page will bring you many more posts on pretty much what ever other topic you can think of... Here's one Show Off! Request. Lets See Your Work Space! And here's another Show Off Your Bench, Organization, Workshop, And Such... I would just Love to have more space to be as organized as some of these folks.. You could also do a search for sewing machine, arbor press, or shop press etc. and join in on the discussions. Sometimes it might work better to bump up a discussion that has already been started (and others will see it and maybe join in too) While searching for a topic, sometimes you get more than you asked for, but I have found some Really Great Information hiding in the posts and links - some that are Very Helpful Tips to remember... I just found a great tip while searching for these two links for you.. So, Thank you and Good luck and I Hope this helps... BTW - Welcome to Leatherworker.net *Also, I didn't know if you had noticed but if you scroll down below the posts there will be links to other posts that are similar to the subject...

  22. Hmmm, I guess I was thinking if it was mine, I would call Tippmann first and talk with them. I didn't know you already had called. I have always found that they are all very nice and willing to help. 99% of my contact with them has been with Jim, but I suppose it was probably Jim that referred you to Tom...
