@Jassu "I tried the machine and noticed that the needle does not move when I press the pedal" Does the motor run? Does it buzz or make any noise? Does the belt slip? Can you turn the sewing machine pulley by hand with the belt off? Does the motor pulley turn easily with the belt off? Is the sewing machine seized up? You need to provide more information - tell us what you see and hear. Then we can help you. We need at least the answers to the above questions. A little video saved on YouTube to show what the machine does would be a help as well. If you test each question, and answer it to yourself, you will be able to point to the area that has a problem instead of just saying the needle doesn't move.

From Google Translate: First of all, I apologize for the typos. I come from Finland, and English is not used every day. I bought a used juki DNU-241 H sewing machine. I tried the machine and noticed that the needle does not move when I press the pedal. Where could you start looking for a fault? Thanks in advance for the answers. It's completely pointless to ask about Finland, because the seamstresses there are such fierce competitors that they don't want to help/advise others. I think it's really stupid, but what can you do. Please use English - That is the default and expectation on LeatherWorker.net. Google Translate works fairly well, not perfect.

Strange grey spots on new veg tan?
Northmount replied to Yukonrookie's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Dye will only hide it if it is the same colour and density or darker. -
Moved your post to leather sewing machines. This is where the machine guys hang out. This is the best you can do unless you have a good knowledge of balancing procedures and the right diagnostic instrumentation. You would need to do what is called a dynamic balance, measuring the static and couple components and calculating the weight changes and positions to add or subtract weight. Not easy on a sewing machine.

Strange grey spots on new veg tan?
Northmount replied to Yukonrookie's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Chuck has it right! Spots that vary from light blue gray all the way to black are a result of a reaction between the tannins in the leather and iron contamination. It could have happened anywhere after tanning until it arrived on your bench. A year or so ago, I had a nice piece of leather that was going to be part of clutch purse with horses figure carved on both sides of the purse. I cased and transferred my pattern onto the leather bagged it over night. In the morning, I came back to it and there was this blue spot outside of what would be the carved area, so couldn't be hidden with tooling or dye. There was a tiny piece of metal embedded in the leather just below the surface. So it had got there during the tanning or finishing process. Like Chuck says, keep all iron filings and fleeings (fine particles of metal dust in the atmosphere) away from your leather and off your bench. Even turning on a fan could be enough to blow iron dust laying on any surfaces around your work space. As a matter of interest, you can look up vinegaroon, used to 'dye' leather blue/black. It's really not dye, but a chemical reaction. -

Please post good ones you found, even though they aren't exactly what you want. I and I suppose others would like to see them. Thank you in advance.

Lets have a look at a "Genuine Leather" belt???
Northmount replied to kgg's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
That would have been a little long for my grandfather. Years ago he asked me for a simple belt - 48" waist. Made the overall length 64". It just met, tip to buckle. That was the only long blank I had, so he was out of luck. That's when I learned to get real measurements for belts. -
If you stitch across the bottom, the slider isn't going past that point.

Belt lengths vary depending on pulley sizes and how the machine and motor are mounted on the table. Parts lists can not account for all these variances. With a little elementary math like 5th or 6th grade and a ruler or tape measure, you can determine the required belt length. First step, before measuring, is to set the motor belt tension adjustment at half way so you have room to tighten or loosen the belt tension when installing your new belt. Measure diameter of the pulleys at the edge of the rim assuming you are buying the proper width of belt for the pulley, take half the circumference of the pulleys, write the total down. Place the ruler or other straight edge against the pulley rims and measure the distance between the contact points on the pulleys. Only need to measure 1 side since the opposite side will be the same, double that measurement and add it to the total for the half circumferences you wrote down. The total of these is the belt length (outside measure) you need.

Suspended edge guide doesn’t fit right? What to do?
Northmount replied to myjtp's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
@myjtp All your 3rd party hosted photos are no longer available. This is what happens when you move or delete photos, or cancel your account. (Some hosts have gone out of business or changed their policies too.) Please do not use 3rd party hosts for photos on this site! If you can message me with your photos and tell me which posts they belong in, I can fix this thread so it is useful to others with similar problems. -
As you have found, videos take a lot of file space, more than the limits here allow. Put your videos on YouTube or other host and link to them here. Then you can post videos with adequate time and resolution. Moved your post to leather sewing machines.

@JamesR Merged your 2 posts. You can post additional post on the first post so you can maintain 1 thread. You can also edit your posts within a time window. Noticed one yesterday where the window was 6 hours. I thought it would just be a couple hours.
