Thanks everyone. Roger, I've been using BIC permanet markers on some things. There holding up surprisingly well especially the seat on my bike. I'll have to post a pic.
Been busy building my new shop/garage in my backyard. I'm not a carpenter but I'm learning as I go. In the military it was called OJT, on the job training.
I've done both; soak completely or just lightly wet. Now I just get the top slightly wet to trace a pattern. I'll then rewet the top a bit and wet the bottom some with a rag or sponge, when it returns to the natural color I'll carve it. I 'll let it sit overnight before tooling it.
Looks great Marlon! Have you tried sharpies for coloring instead of dye? I used some Bic permanent markers on the latest seat cover for my bike and the color is holding up a lot better than I expected.
Tom, you sound like an art critic, but that's not a bad thing. MADMAX22 I wish I did freehand the border! I drew the scroll on some tracing film and went from there. Thanks Darryl. I haven't been on here a lot lately as I've been busy building my new garage/shop. I'll post some pics of it soon.
I've been experimenting with Sharpies on some motorcycle seats. I've also been trying the Bic equivalent of them because they have some vibrant colors. Unlike Bruce I don't use super sheen or leathersheen on seats,I use that Aussie stuff. I'll see how it holds up .
Happy Birthday to Leatherworker and for giving me a place to display my junk. And BIG THANKS to all the people working hard to keep this place up and running!
Thanks, but I'm not keeping it. I made a different cover for my seat. I'm a wuss so I run a tube in mine. I'll post a pic of it soon, I've been busy building my shop in the backyard. A lot of post hole digging.
I made this for the seat on my bike because I wanted some background. I made the error of just tracing off another cover instead of stripping down the seat and fitting it to the pan and it ended up pretty loose. Well I ended up making another pan and stuffed some yoga mat in it.
