well done! yes... airbrush is the way to go for sure weather it's paints or dyes

thanks tim! just figured i would ask. i have never worked with anything but, veg tan and since you were able to get latigo to take some tooling i figured i would ask. i'll prolly stick with veg tan for the gussets

thanks tim! i have also not known that latigo could be tooled. could you give me the aproximate lenght of the body? i am going to make a form to wet mold the ends. will latigo wet mold at all? if not i'll stick with veg tan my bags are all made to order and i place the strap mounting slots far enough apart to acomidate just about and fork width and diameter. i do ask for a center to center measurement but they all pretty much fall within a couple inches

thanks billy!! i made the lifters i have but i do find uses for them. i don't see much problem with the lifted leather staying. i would think it will flaten out some if and when it gets wet but, some will remain. while i don't normally use it, i soak the lifted ares with neat-lac a few times to try and stiffen those areas. i have been only using herman oak and it is fairly hard tempered to start with so it holds tooling rather well

I went ahead and just ordered a side for Siegel. after reading the descriptions it says that their strap sides are the same as their skirting. I gave them a good explanation of watch it will be used for so, I'll see what i get

yea.. i guess i will. I've had no complaints with what i have ordered from them i have been buying their import double shoulders when they are on the friday special. i use them for my bags.

the sides i get from weaver seem to vary greatly! i only order one side at a time and most times one a month. one of my problems is, i need it when i order it! i don't have time to wait on another being shipped to me. i do wish Tandy's top shelf leather was a bit better... i can get a side from them next day. you pay top dollar for HO and the last side i got has quite a bit of stretch marks, open grain and some pretty bad scratches. i always specify to please send me very clean hides as i use them for larger projects and this one is worse than the last.

Bruce.. is that golden oak the same as their strap sides? i normally use 6-7 oz but i see they have strap in 7-80oz. i have not been happy with the quality on the HO sides weaver has been sending and need to find something else.

thanks guys! i should have the seat all done by this weekend. it will not be painted. paint just does not hold up on a seat. i use some now and then for accent but that's about it. hopfully it won't be a black seat

i hear they are the best! my biggest problem is... if i have the money to buy a couple tools, i want them right away. i just don't want to wait for months to get a tool. i've been very happy with my barry king tools and intend to order a few more

i was told you should move the tool about 1/4 of the total width of the tool with each strike. a bevel is crowned at the center and that is what should be making the impression. i use the same weight maul for all my tooling (24oz) and just vary how hard i hit the tool depending on the size of the tool

really depends on the size of the pad. i have done some that are 4" x 6" and up to 9" x 14". the larger one is basically the same size as a small solo seat. i myself don't charge extra for tooling so if they want it plain, they are loosing out. i hate plain seats but, that just me i know i don't charge near enough and generally i charge less for a p-pad because it is being done with the seat but, i have done them for as little as $50 and up to $225 here are three that i have done. all different sizes. BTW i do find them more difficult to cover than a seat. i guess there is just less room for error

really nice work Larry! the tooling looks great and your stiching looks clean and straight! been wanting to try some sheridan carving myself.. i need to order up a couple tools and give it a go
