You should be able touch them up with emery paper. Depending on how much room there is between the blades you could glue a piece of emery onto a strip of cardboard to stiffen it.

I'm taking Fergs advice and starting to copy and save some of this. -
You can punch holes with it but you need to add a chuck in order to hold the punch. I had the ram threaded and can install a keyless 1/2"chuck.

I like my arbor press for 3D stamping, I bought a 1/4" steel plate 5 inches by 5 inches to stamp on and it works good, the press could have been a bit bigger but I already had it.

They should tell you what thickness they want then you can decide what to use to cut them. -
This is what it looks like with gel antique in saddle tan. Don't forget to wipe the dye off the resisted area.

One coat and let dry for a few hours at least or two coats if you require lots of resistance.

Learning About The Sewing Machine You Just Bought
Tree Reaper replied to rickybobby's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
An illustration showing the parts of a sewing machine would be a good place to start. -
Dampen the leather, wait until it's almost dry, oil it, go out to the barn and run the flesh side over the steel blade of a shovel, back and forth, oil it and redo the process without the water dampening. You'll need a shower when you're done or you haven't worked hard enough at breaking it.

That's pretty special, 1 5/16 bore over 18 inches. You might have better luck on a wood working forum.

There is lots of interest but it would be too far to travel I would guess. A college course at home that would last a few weeks would be great. The guys here are pretty good at answering the questions. -
Hitting it with a hair dryer might work on that.

Are you looking for something like this?

Dehairing can be done using calcium hydroxide but I don't know if it works on a tanned hide.
-
Yes I paid for it and I have it but I haven't installed it yet. Yes, I made a point of marking it and counting the turns. I started with a half turn and kept going up to six but it wasn't having any affect so I started looking at other possibilities. The cardboard is a good idea, thanks.

Did you consider buying a commercial tan?
-
I considered a Boss but was concerned sewing one handed.

Are they tanned? -
It should dye but might be darker than veg. Try a small sample.

I backed the pressure off six complete turns and it was still leaving a black mark, turns out to be oil running down and ending up getting on the bottom of the foot and staining the leather.

The machine seems to be stitching well but I'm getting a slight line to the right of the stitch line, any idea what to adjust to reduce or eliminate this mark? Thanks.
