I've seen round leashes with no stitch line before, in fact there seem to be more and more of them showing up at superzoo every year. The use of elk leather with these types of leashes are also not unique, there's at least two dog botiques near me that I've recently seen them in. I'm not trying to squash your dream but you should know that there are already a couple of well established companies that have already brought this to market.

First Leather Dog Harness Completed!
Mijo replied to Sponge's topic in Collars, Cuffs, Leashes and Leads
Looks really nice, I like the chest piece. That's the same basic walking harness design I use, but I think it works better on larger dogs than toys. Your model is very sweet looking too, I luvs me some pitty. -
I collect designer (LV, chanel, prada, coach, etc) dog collars / leashes and I noticed some of the ones in my collection also do that as well. While it's probably done for looks, I'd have to agree with the Englishman as well which is why I don't do it for the items I make.

Made A Little Dog Collar......
Mijo replied to shooter55's topic in Collars, Cuffs, Leashes and Leads
I have those same dremel tools, only mine are from Spinner before he turned production of them over to Bearman. I agree, they also helped improve the look of my edges and reduced the amount of time it takes. -
I use my all the time and I'm glad I bought it. I normally work 10-12 oz latigo but when I've used thinner leather I haven't had a need to use it. I've been wondering if a thimble might have been a better option though.

I like the snow leopard, did you draw that up yourself? -

Let's Talk About Overstitchers And Pricking Irons.
Mijo replied to tbhogstrom's topic in Leather Tools
That link that particle provided will take you to Osborne's website. I have Tandy's diamond chisel and Osborne's saddle chisel the Obsorne chisel is definitely a higher quality tool (IMO) but you definitely pay more. Not as expensive as the ones from Dixon or Blanchard but also not the same quality. IMO Osborne tools are pretty middle of the road, which isn't bad, and their tools dominate by tool box (punches, bevelers, , etc.).- 8 replies

If you do throw it on the sander, please post a pic of how it turns out. I might consider doing the same just to get some use out of it.

Particle - I have that same Osborne 609-9 and the description indicates its for lacing not stitching. I haven't used it yet for a project but I did try it out on some scrap leather and it looks like the slits are too wide to be used for stitching, I normally use 4 or 7 cord pre waxed linen. Having said that though, I like how you used it for that handle, very creative. On that same page the particle linked I also have the 700 which I use the most. I actually bought three of them and cut two down to only two and one prong. The 700 doesn't have the angled slits like the 609s though.

I have the Osborne version of what Django posted, if that isn't an Osborne. It works well, I usually set the depth pretty shallow for the first pass and then adjust the depth as need for the next pass(es). I use a metal ruler with it to make sure I'm gouging in a straight line. I believe Osborne makes two versions, Ron's Tools makes a very different version of a v gouge.

My First Leather Bag

Looks well made, I like the handle on top. -
Thanks for those links, particularly the last one.

Are these for marking or punching?

First Wallet
Mijo replied to glockanator's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Looks good, but it seems odd having the snap in the middle of the name. -
I purchased a set like that from eBay. I tried it on latigo and bridle, which is what types of leather I work with, and found it less than adequate. The stamps don't leave a deep enough impression and the letters weren't clearly visible. The stamps also came covered in oil which I wiped off and the stamps started to rust.

Cell Phone Sleeve And Card Case
Mijo replied to BobW's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
While I'm not a fan of that style cell case or card case, your work looks pretty solid. The cell case looks like it fits like a glove and your stitching appears very uniform. I wish my first and second projects turned out that well, good job on both and welcome. -
I had the same problem with infinity a couple years ago when I sent them 2 vector drawings of images I wanted made into 2 separate makers marks. They wanted extra money, $40, to tweak each image I sent them and both maker stamps were going to set me back about $300 (including the extra charge). I also needed a set of custom alphabet / number stamps made so I had those made but not the two maker stamps b/c I couldn't afford everything at once. I had to have the proofs for the alphabet stamps revised twice as the dimensions were listed in correctly on the proofs and they also left off some characters that should have been included. All in all, I'm extremely satisfied with the stamps that they made for me but the interaction to get the job done was sloppy at best. I stopped interacting with them via email and started talking directly with the sales person that generated my invoice, and that seemed to move things a long more efficiently. I'm planning to have them make those two maker stamps, after I get my tax return, as I'm happy with their work (just not their ordering process).

Looks great, I like the way you did the brass strap keepers and the use of two buckles (very innovative). Thanks for posting / sharing.

That's not true, LV has several lines that are all leather and not treated canvas with leather trim. Their all leather products have less branding all over them and tend to cost more, which is probably why they're less prevalent.
