  1. The Chinese version can be made to work well with a bit of tinkering but it will never match the quality of the original as it is built to a price.I sell hundreds of the Chinese machine but I also have a Wertheim that shows them up for what they are. Keep in mind that the Chinese have trouble making a proper copy of the 29k72
  2. Occasionally I find that with vibration the screw that holds the tension assembly on place can loosen up over time. Make sure that you actually have tension on the top when the foot is down. Nine times out of ten what appears to be a major problem is only a minor adjustment issue.
  3. Don't forget you need to wrap the thread around the bottom tension. The bottom tension spring acts to slow down the rotation of the tension discs.
  4. I have one on the way! It looks to be somewhere between these machines and the OS36 in height but I will have more details soon.
  5. http://parts.singerco.com/IPpartCharts/16-188.pdf http://parts.singerco.com/IPinstManuals/16-133_CLASS_16.pdf Like all machines there are a few basics: make sure the bottom end is clean! Pull off the needle plate and remove everything that unscrews use a new needle and make sure you have it in the right way. Simple test is that the scarf is on the correct side to interact with the hook listed needle is the 16 X63. AKA DBX1 but it might have been reset for a different type.
  6. Almost on topic Is the Singer 155B8B the Seiko LSC-8? Gregg, you know more about the Seiko/Singer relationship than anyone else!
  7. These machines are based on a domestic frame and have limited capacity for leather.
  8. Thanks Bob, I am a relative newbie to the industry but when it comes down to it there are only a very small number of things that can really go wrong with a machine.
  9. At best you can use 40 ticket - #69 - thread through garment leather. This is a great machine but not for sewing leather.
  10. Try pulling the thread when the foot is down. If it comes through easily then you need to adjust the tension assembly.
  11. Sewing machines are tricky things with hundreds of parts. My experience has been that most problems are caused by inexperience and not due to an inherent problem with the machine. On very rare occasions something can go wrong with the machine but by the feedback on here I have no doubt that Steve (Bob or Ronnie) will do everything possible to put it right. These three guys do a lot of business here and would not risk their reputations by ignoring a problem. IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM THEN CALL STEVE NOW. I HAVE NOW DOUBT HE WILL DO EVERYTHING IN HIS POWER TO HELP YOU OUT.
  12. CH-8B is a great heavy machine. Please turn off the caps lock as it the equivalent to shouting on the net!
  13. The 260 is a great machine but not necessarily what you want. No multi stitch machine will give you a perfect straight stitch so for light work maybe a Pfaff 30 will do the job. Up to about 4mm of soft leather with #92 thread this machine can work well. Anything over that and you are pushing the proverbial uphill.
  14. The whole tension assembly might occasionally be out of whack. When you have the foot down on the work is there any tension on the top? The tension may have been set for thin work so you may need to loosen the screw that holds the tension assembly and move the whole assembly out to the point where you have tension.
  15. If you need a 441 then get the longest arm you can afford. You might be making holsters now but what might come your way in two years time?
  16. Step one: Ask a dealer on the forum. Step two: Ask a dealer on the forum. Step three: Ask a dealer on the forum. There are a bunch of people who advertise here and I suspect that their advertising dollar pays for this place to exist. Almost every day someone asks about parts availability for their machine without considering who pays the bills here! Support the people who make this place possible and regularly supply you with free information that saves you hundreds in servicing costs.
  17. Ask Bob or any of the other dealers here. The tension spring is is still in production. I have them in stock so would be disappointed if the other dealers could not help!
  18. I sew 6mm of oak tan with 20ticket on these machines! It always amazes me just what they can do.
  19. I have seen 240V domestic motors rated to 250W but not sure what life expectancy would be like. These are ok for some things but probably wishing a bit to sew anything hard. At the moment I am building a Singer 19-10 feed up the arm zig-zag machine to sew stubby holders and the supercharged domestic motor will work well.
  20. drop the needle bar a fraction as this might give you a bigger loop. The hook should almost be touching the needle! What needle are you using?
  21. Good choice for horse rugs but I prefer a Singer 7
  22. The 29k33 and earlier have a flat spring that applies pressure to the presser foot and there is a slide block attached to this. Over time the slide block can wear down and reduce foot lift. I have seen a couple of machines where the owner thought the machine was faulty when all that was required was to move the slide block further to the rear in order to give more lift. It is also a part that gets lost so I had to make some at times - mine are rather crude but do the job. Edited to add: not necessarily relevant for anyone's problem here but a problem to watch out for.
  23. I don't know about this model but DA bought Minerva in the Czech republic and they now produce a lot of machines for them. Minerva was quite a good manufacturer in the 60's.
  24. Stop right there! Adjusted? If you want to sew then this is the machine you need to use to learn how to do your own basic servicing.
  25. Sorry Johan - I am a bit passionate about my machines I know the seller you are talking about and he is one of the people who gives this lovely little machine a bad name!
