  1. I like it, looks very cool. And when the world is ending you will have a supply of breath mints. LOL Aaron
  2. Mike, How do I get into the leather artisans digital guild? Aaron
  3. With time, patience, practice, perseverance... It does get easier.
  4. I think your issue is you are trying to sew on a sewn line. Try having your first line sewn a little farther in from the edge, say 3/8" and your second and final sew line closer to the edge, say at 3/32". Or do just the opposite and sew first close to the edge and second farther away, this will depend on how you want the back to look.
  5. I like #1, simple is best. but, I do not like the font. looks odd between the g and the p. Aaron
  6. The Tandy kits are pre-cut pre-punched leather, so it really does not get any simpler. The Big House Daddy patterns are good, but if you are starting from zero, kits are simpler than patterns. Aaron
  7. Here is how to lower the gloss on it. When you are applying it with a piece of sheep hair, wipe it on till you get your coverage. Make sure everything is sealed and coated. Then gently keep wiping till it starts to get tacky, this will happen quickly. Wipe just a little more and then get away from it. The result will be a medium gloss and not the plastic high gloss look.Aaron
  8. I really did not think there was anything controversial when I posted. My own experiences are that in fabrics, natural fabrics are less sun resistant than synthetic materials. In my limited experience with thread, the only decayed thread I have ever replaced was to a coworkers boat top. After about ten years the top fabric was in very serviceable condition, but the ( what looked like) linen thread was decomposing and the seams were opening. I resewed it with nylon and all was good. Not scientific at all, just my observations. Aaron
  9. http://www.bighousedaddy.com Try here. Aaron
  10. Cool. Can you do it again? I took a shoe class last summer and have two new pairs started, one child's shoes finished. Do it again while you are still excited. Aaron
  11. This is bad. I can not count the number of leather meetings I have gone to in the last few years. Here I thought it was just to learn, now I find out that it is all for therapy. At least it is not court ordered. I know people who go to meeting under court order...
  12. A sideways answer. Fiebings red diluted with alcohol makes a hot pink dye. Do test pieces first and let it dry to be sure you are happy with the shade. Aaron
  13. I wish I was closer. It would be difficult for me to be farther away.
  14. I would also relace the whole thing. You will never match it if you don't . Kangaroo is the best lace (yknotlace). You did not say if you are going to do this because you want to... If you don't, buy me roll of kangaroo and I will replace it for you. Aaron
  15. Linen is more likely to decay in outdoor environments. The computer I was using would do really weird things with this forums system. Letters would not appear, others would switch to different than was typed. Made for a lot of mistakes. AND, I totally changed the meaning when I put in the wrong words (more verses less). I must have been tired that morning.
  16. On the PCs the tool bar is displayed, just many things do not work properly. From my older one to the brand new one, same problem on all three of them. Other petiole also post that they have the same issue too, so it is not isolated. I am not that knowledgable on computer issues, so I do not know much more than the surface answers.
  17. I now have an iPad and things look way different. So far most things seem to be working. It is windows on my PC that has the issues.
  18. It looks to me like the barrel on the knife is nothing like a barrel nut. The blade Is a bolt (threaded into the nut) and the head cut off and sharpened. Grab the blade tight and it will likely unthread.
  19. It isn't supposed to be straight, the bottom shape is "proper". Your hips are flared, not straight.
  20. Find some letterpress printing type and press the names in. Do a search for stelmacker, he has an article posted about this. Hot press is better and faster than cold press, but cold pressing does work. Aaron
  21. You need to press a lot harder than you can with that set-up. A vise, clamp, book press, something along those lines would be a minimum.
