  1. Just as Chief said, harness needles. Big eye needles break constantly.
  2. I like the lamination on the buckle. Also, for just learning, your stitching looks very good.
  3. If you are looking for leather to make the inside, you want pig. It is thin, about the thinnest Tandy has. The outside will likely be veg tanned cow, but there are a lot of choices you can use.
  4. That is how I would do it, except that I would not grove. I never do. You did not grove the area you machine sewed, so why grove when you hand sew.
  5. From someone who likes to lace, most people I find like sewing a lot better. Lacing tends to give a 1960's I made it in my basement look if you are not very carefull.
  6. I have one. It works well. It does us wax to burnish so you need to have your dying done before you burnish. You also can not get into tight inside corners. Great for belts.
  7. I would pull the zipper piece out and punch all the way around, then reinstall the gusset and punch what you can. If you can not punch the tight areas I would switch to an awl for them.
  8. If you are buying it in short pieces you are paying WAY over fair price. You likely could have bought a spool of it for twice what you paid for the few feet you got.
  9. You do have a mess. It is really hard to answer to much from just the pictures but I will give it a shot. In order to do anything you will need to strip off whatever you can. Your only real chance is to go black, it usually covers all. So deglaze, dye black, refinish. The worst that can happen is they will get ugly, that has already happened.
  10. You will have to Snoopy dance around it when it arrives.
  11. One side issue here is that when you buy pre-waxed thread most I have seen comes waxed with paraffin. Thread does much better when waxed with bees wax. Not sure why they do this unless it is to save money, but in general I would recommend you buy unwaxed thread and wax it yourself.
  12. The razor blade is held in the tool at the wrong angle. Took me a long time to figure that out. You need a proper skiving knife and all the sudden it is easy. A round knife, preferably that is flexable or a straight skiving knife that is flexable.
  13. folded edges look most profesional, cut and burnished is easier.
  14. There are tabs in back of the card slot pieces. Slide the diamond shaped piece end into the opening of the card section and hook the tab into the slot. Do it on both sides. The rectangle id the liner to the back. Sew or lace around the perimiter to hold it all togeather.
  15. For $425 for such a simple bag I would gladly do a couple hours of handsewing. It looks good the way it is stitched.
  16. There is a small "n" in the top left corner, click on it. Not sure what or why, but there is flaw in the forum software that stops a lot of things from working properly (I have tried on multiple computers from old to brand new, same issues) If yopu click on the "n" icon sometimes it will let you do things that otherwise will not work (like quotes and hyperlinks, cut and paste).
  17. LOL First off, stop doing this. Start with small managable projects. Do the first ones 4 times each. The repitition will help you correct issues you are having.
  18. I actually learned to do it from stelmackr, here is a link to his site. http://aaleatherbigbookcovers.com/download/Typography%20in%20Leather%20Article.pdf With a little set up time you can print perfectly. Your printing will be as good as newspaper/boopk quality.
  19. Find a set of letterpress type. You can clamp any numbers of type togeather and you will have perfect alignment. Virtually any size is available. It is lead so you have to press them in and not hit it.
  20. They have moved the super specials to the outlet store. They are still having close out sales on items that have not been in inventory for months and months.
  21. I am assuming you have basic tools. I find it hard to imagine trying to get perfectly aligned edges without a belt sander.
  22. I have a bunch that was over exposed I got from the MRI place. Vets may let you hve old films. The HIPA laws make the Dr afraid to let you have ones that someone can identiy.
  23. The are many ways to hand stitch, the worst is the speedy stitcher. As everyone else has said, loose the stitcher and sew with two needles.
