  1. Brent....Here's a picture of a similar style holster I did for a Glock. Albiet it's a clip on, I believe the lines could be transferred to the belt slot style avenger. I could use my same pattern from this clip on and continue the line further out to make a belt slot. I have good coverage of the trigger/guard and still would have plenty of room for a full grip on the gun. From the rear of the trigger guard on your existing pattern I would drop down about a half inch. It's hard for me to put it in words, hopefully the picture will explain better than I can in words. Please forgive the squiggly lines, I did this on MS Paint and I have shaky hands.
  2. Anyone making any rigs that conform to the Cowboy Fast Draw Association regulations? I'd love to talk shop if you do.
  3. Thanks, I'll check those out. Not much bandwidth where I'm at right now though. Here's a question though: are the borders usually marked with wing dividers?
  4. Hello everyone. Well, I've been making holsters now for almost a year. I recently completed my first western rig. It was basic with no stamping per the customers request. Which was good for me at the time because I don't know much at all about border stamping. I've got the tools, but haven't really put forth the effort to teach myself (hate wasting expensive leather for one). So, can someone point me to a tutorial of some sort on border stamping belts and holsters?
  5. I've got several sizes of each in the Barry King bissonnette and sharp curve edgers and love them. The sharp curve works very good in belt loops and other tight radius curves. I use the bissonnette for general edging.
  6. I've experimented with most of the weights up to 9/10 oz. my personal favorite is 6/7 oz. For what I do it's the most versatile weight to have around. If I'm doing western stuff I double it up. For my lil clip ons, pancakes and avengers I use single and reinforce the mouth. It's just costs too much for me to have all the weights lying around.
  7. Amazingly true. I've been comparing mine to some of the off the shelf holsters looking for areas of improvement and I noticed on several that the edges weren't done. Take a look at the blackhawk leather holsters. They're done, but by no means does it look as good as some I've seen on this site. And their finishing sux and they use really thin leather. I think quality just goes down some when some companies go large scale and start looking at time saving methods. Additionally, I feel the average consumer doesn't even consider the brand of leather that the holsters are made from, ie HO or W&C. I think the vast majority price shop vice quality shop. Sorry for ranting, just got a lil fired up.
  8. I use a drum sander on my drill press at approximately 1750 rpm to get the edges even. Then I dampen the edges and bevel. Re-dye and let dry. I use the Tandy wooden tools and some gum trag to "shape" the edges to a nice rounded edge. After that I use a piece of canvas to burnish. Works like a champ. I've tried the dremel and it just burnishes more than I like.
  9. Thanks Grump. I hear ya. First time I've used it in a while. It has a tendency to lift at it's edges. But it turned out okay with some TLC.
  10. Thanks Mike. I haven't tried the exact pattern for my 1911 yet. I use the same general design for all makes and draw each out separately and make modifications to the design as needed. I'm sure the stitch line and overall length would change though.
  11. Very nice work. Congrats to both of you. I need to get into your course.
  12. The guys at work are keeping me busy with these. Here's my latest for a Glock 26. I used Tandy Pro Waterstain Tan, gloss finish, and black edge coat.
  13. Great work as always Particle. How'd ya like the Pro Waterstain? That's what I've using lately and I like it. I may have to add that red to my shelf.
  14. I got my airbrush and compressor at HF. Works well.
  15. Hello everyone. I'm trying to find a holster clip that has the center cut out so that it can be riveted in the middle vice the bottom. The holster clips that Tandy sells are a little too long for the compact guns.
  16. please add me to the section as well. Thanks, Jason
  17. Having difficulties logging in with iPhone...any suggestions?

  18. Good to be back in the south. Maybe I can find me some sweet tea. None of that raspberry stuff they sell in California.

  19. Ok. Have you checked out the "How to Make Holsters by Al Stohlman"? On page 3 it gives examples of various folds. I downloaded mine online from Tandy. Additionally, Slick Bald Customs sells a cross draw pattern/instructions for SAA up to 5-1/2" Bbl.
  20. What exactly are you looking for when you say "source"? Are you looking for a template or just a manufacturer of a replica?
  21. Very nice indeed. I am baseing my next project off of that pattern with a few changes.
  22. Hello everyone. I just made this box a couple days ago. I like the pictures better now vise my standard overhead cieling fan light. Haha. However, I'm getting alot of reflection off of some areas of my holsters. The box was built utilizing a frosted shower curtain and the lamps are 60w day light bulbs. I'd like to hear any suggestions on how to reduce the glare.
