  1. Hey Shooter..that is, by far, the nicest looking glock rig I have ever seen...absolutely amazing...im gonna have to try one for my G32...one question, did you roll the edges on the exotics..they look so clean?
  2. i love this rig...sweet...awesome pattern and flawless execution..
  3. Nice rig Josh, very understated and subtle...clean...the only thing i see that sort of distracts me is the belt slots...they look a little askew...this, i think, is one of the hardest part of holster making...i had a custom die made to cut mine after fighting and losing this battle..
  4. ive thought alot on sight channels...depending on the height of the sight, i light the lcp for example, i dont even bother...when i do need one, i cut more of a long square piece about 3/16 wide and tape that on..it seems to stay put better than the round dowels...i like the idea of having one on the gun permanently...
  5. you may be right with the one pice removal, it may be too hard to flex enough to pare off...another option is one of those survivor saws...basically a rough wire thing, they used to be included in the rambo knifes..something like that to saw it off and still keep the saw kerf small...maybe a hot wire, like a styrofoam cutter would work as well..but i think jb would be the least time consuming...let me know how it works as im getting ready to order one of those blue guns as well..
  6. Do it the same way, seperate the safety with a sharp chisel and contact cement it on in the "safe position"..you could also drill a hole in the pivot point location before cutting it off and install a dowel, that way you could move it into either position...jb weld is another option for building one up..get the jb roll though as it is much easier to work with...
  7. I'm sure there was magic, wicthcraft, and other nafarious art involved in getting that amazing coloring, but im pretty sure the texture was hammer and the backdrop the knife was photographed on...a very unique look and incredibly eye catching and artistic...
  8. My first thought is that it wasnt really dry enough...i like to use angelus dyes cut with denatured alcohol..i think it dries faster...give it a full 24 hours after you dye before doing anything else with it..you might also hit it with a shoe shine brush before you wet mold to get rid of surface pigments..
  9. 4-5 seems really light to me...i prefer 7/8 for just about everything that im doing as a single layer...i would do the 4-5 in a double layer...
  10. Thanks Eric, i'm still trying to get up to your speed though...i got those buckles from SLC..they look kind of cheesey on their web site, but when i called and talked to Jne, she assured me that t was just a bad picture and the buckles looked much better in person...she was right... here are the links to the buckles http://springfieldleather.com/17090/Buckle%2CRoller%2CNp%2C1-1-4%22/ http://springfieldleather.com/16475/Buckle%2CRoller%2CSB%2C1-1-4%22/
  11. I love the "hit it with a hammer while its laying on concrete" embossing....very cool looking..
  12. Hey All, I spend alot of time doing inside out IWB's, so when i get a chance to do something other than that i get all giddy...here are a few recent ones..critisism welcome...
  13. I was just debating the idea of the arbor press...another concern is noise..i have 4 kids that are in bed usually by 8pm, so im forced to go to the garage to punch holes...when its warm, not a problem...cold on the other hand sucks...im using uhmd for a backstop...i search til i hit the end of the internet looking for oval hole punch pliers...i cant find any..does anyone else think this is odd..imagine it, put a little guide on there so you can set it for different belt widths, then its just punch, move, punch ,move...maybe one of you engineers out there can make something like that for us...i was even debating making a table for an arbor press with a fence, like the one i have for my drill press...set the depth, pull the handle...what were some of the issues with the arbor press?...
  14. Hey All, My round punches just werent cutting it on thick gun belts, so i ordered the biggest oval punch SLC had on their web site..its 3/16...i figured this would work...did i ever tell you guys how poor i was a figuring?...anyway, i need some recommendations for a good oval punch for 1/4 inch thick gun belts... thanks all, don
  15. my biggest concern would be the chance of having a piece ruined by hydrulic fluid...leaky bottle jack's arent exactly uncommon.
  16. Looking good..the only thing that stands out to me is the stitch length..looks a little too long...if you dont have an overstitch wheel to mark the leather for 6 stitches per inch, use a ruler and mark your pattern every 4 mm..thats 6 spi..transfer your marks to the leather with a scratch awl or something else sharp and pointy and you have your stitchline all laid out...this is also a really good technique for doing western style holsers and pouch type holsters where you dont have a lot of room to get a good glue bond..
  17. I drew this observation today after a friend of mine, an SF type, very gun smart and rather picky about his kit, was showing of his favorite IWB...all leather, horsehide he claimed, but it looked like cow to me...anyway, this was from one of the bigger manufacturers, im not gonna drop any dimes, but the edges were total crap....then he takes off his supposed horse hide belt, from the same maker, and the edges on it were total crap...they used edge coat on both and it was deteriorated badly, and it didnt look like it was burnished before painting....but this guy, a man who is dare I say spoiled when it comes to getting first class gear, absolutely loved it..though it was the best thing since sliced bread...hence the observation ... bye the way, im gonna have to stop by one of these days and check out your angelus dip routine...i just got some in today and sponging/wiping it on isnt very easy...i got medium gloss leather and high gloss waterproof fingers...
  18. you can get blueguns for almost any thing out there...35-40 bucks...not a bad price if you think it will make more than one holster..otherwise, sometimes you just have to say no can do...
  19. Just an observation... I think for the most part, edging is in the eyes of the maker...we spend alot of time considering edges and such while for the most part, i think, the customer really doesnt even consider it unless it is glaringly bad...take for example cross breed...they dont even attempt to edge, yet knowwhere have i read any criticisms concerning that...its amazing how anal we get in our pursuit of perfection when we (mainly this community here) are the only ones who really seem to notice...
  20. good looking rig...i love the natural thread on dark leather..very classic look...
  21. Hey Matt, im facing the same issue here in kentucky...the only solutiion i could find was to order a couple of sides from wickett and craig, drum dyed...i figure those should last until the weather warms up again...
  22. Hey All...how hard is it to attach the strap good plate?...and how do you remove the feed dog...i cant seem to find those answers in the manual...also, when i put the other plate back on, do i have to readjust anything?....vieos would be great at this point..
  23. Ive never had a problem with springfield that wasnt quickly remedied. They are always curteous and shipping is prompt. Ive had two issues with them total..one was a stitch groover that was drilled offcenter (not springfield's mistake) and once when i got a single shoulder that was a little too rough. Springfield sent me a new stitch groover and shoulder, no questions asked...anytime i start a a new adventure, they are always happy to answer any questions i have, send me sample materials, and even take care of some things like skiving down belt strips for me...This company is such a breath of fresh air, and i strive to model my own customer service after theirs...
