  1. There is quite a difference in Eco Flo and Eco Flo pro dyes. Using only the pro, I have not had any problems with it scratching off, but it still doesn't penetrate as deep as pro oil dye. Gump
  2. I was recently given a 52 w 22 ,two needle singer machine. Does anyone know if any parts are available for these relics? I have tried everything online I could find, and no one has anything listed. I need a throat plate, tension assembly, bobbin shuttle and race, and bobbin case cover. It is currently at about 1/16" gauge, but if I could find a needle bar and throat plate and dogs for 1/4" gauge, I would change it over. If anyone has a junker, I would be interested in most of the drive parts. Gump
  3. I have a Sewquiet 5000, and have not had a bit of problem with it in the last 11/2 yrs. It is running a Singer 153w 103 with a 50mm pulley and no speed reducer. I can sew 24-27 oz vegtan stitch by stitch with 90 thread. Gump.
  4. I have 4 Stohlman round knives. The damascus one was almost sharp, the others had a poorly ground edge. They require a good stone sharpening to get the angle on the edge down to a fine taper, and then a serious stropping to get them to cut properly. But once sharp they still need to be stropped often, as they are not hard enough to really hold an edge. The damascus steel is better than the regular knives, but still only about Rc 57-58, as it can be cut with a file. Over Rc 60, most file won't touch it. Gump.
  5. Wiz; phone number is 416 788 5500 for 29 k patcher. Gump.
  6. Wiz; Just checked Kijiji and that 29k patcher is now down to $100 cdn. Ad id number is1001462631. Machine looks good and has a small worm gear motor on it. Gump
  7. Wiz; I posted about one for sale on Kijiji in Toronto a week or so ago. It was a Singer 29 k 72 I believe, and it was a long arm selling for $ 240 cdn. Don't know if it is sold or not. Gump
  8. To check and see if your punch is even on either side, cut 2 pieces of paper with the punch and turn one over on to the other and see if the curves are the same. If they are the same, maybe one leg is longer than the other. In that case just file or grind back the long leg to make them equal, then you can use a square to line up your punch. I recently bought a new Osborne 11/4" punch and it was reasonably sharp but not a polished finish. It was bare metal, no finish or paint. It worked much better after touching up the edge and polishing inside and out. It is almost perfectly symmetrical Gump..
  9. Folks, just came across a deal to good not to pass on. There is a long arm patcher for sale on Kijiji,Toronto [GTA]. It looks to be in good cond. and they are only asking $ 240 cdn. I would grab it but I already have both long and short arm patchers. An excellent deal for anyone looking for a patcher. Gump
  10. Not a leather machine, just a light weight garment machine. For info on old Singers, go to ISMACS. They have the best listings and info on vintage machines. Gump.
  11. Yes that gear is critical, as it times in with the take up lever to set the stitch at the right time. So ya it might have been out of place when you marked it, hence still out of place.
  12. Mine has 5/8" lift and will sew a true 1/2"[12.5 mm] easily. It can use at least 346 thread and has a monster bobbin. Speed is fairly slow with a 1730rpm motor. Note; I've seen ads from U.K. for new 132 machines, don't know if their still being made or were new old stock, but from what I remember they were reasonable. Gump.
  13. For cutting I use a high density polyethylene sheet, 3/8" thick. It allows the knife to slide quite easily and scars are easily removed by simply scraping off the high points with a square edged piece of steel. For punching, redsheet, a really dense rubber works excellent, as it is self healing. Gump.
  14. BDAZ; It was only about $12 for the strip. You could probably find it at most large hardware chains. Gump
  15. I use an eight foot strip of aluminum, 1" x 1/8" that I bought at Canadian Tire store. It is long enough to use on a full side and can be clamped and will reach across the table at any angle. It is perfectly straight, as it is extruded. Gump.
  16. That is a shoelace eye ring of some sort. Try looking up shoe findings. Gump.

I have both the wooden Pro Strap Cutter and the metal one from Tandy, and I much prefer the wood one.I have no trouble cutting up to 12 oz. with the wood one. The metal one is more difficult to use, and the exposed blade can get you if you're not careful. The wooden strap cutter from Tandy is not as good as the pro strap cutter. Gump.
  18. SoMo; I make mocs regularly and I use a cylinder arm walking foot Singer 153 w 103 for most of the job. But the only machine that will sew the heel tab on is a patcher. It is only two runs of 1 1/2" and could be sewn by hand. If you are looking at new, I would recommend a Techsew 2700, which is a compound feed cyl. arm machine. If you want a used patcher, I have a 29 k 71 with about $400 spent replacing the revolving bushing, needle bar, bell crank and driving lever. I recently upgraded to an Adler 30-10 patcher with an electric motor. Gump in N.S.
  19. You can also purchase ultra high molecular weight [uHMW] poly in a round form, in any diameter you wish, and drill a hole from end to end and have a solid mallet. The piece I purchased cost $6/ft. for 2" dia. It is commonly used by stone masons for their hammers as it won't round over the ends of their chisels. It is extremely tough and doesn't mark easily. It has nice density and provides a solid blow with little effort. Gump.
  20. Miss V; They have the 6 point peening tool at Tandy. It is for copper tube rivets. Gump.
  21. At Tandy they are simply called a rivet peening tool. They are available in Tandys latest catalog. Gump..
  22. You have a good supplier right next door. College Sewing, UK. Gump.
  23. That is a set for tubular rivets, the ones made of copper or brass, that are commonly used on tool/nail bags. Gump.
  24. I use gel ink pens from the local dollar store, and have no problem if I wipe it off within 1 hr. After that it becomes more difficult to remove, as it dries on hard.I usually wipe it off immediately to save headaches. And for the price of 1 Tandy pen , I can buy 2 30 packs of these cheap pens. Gump,
  25. Chief; the difference in stitch length will be negligible, as the pivot point is about 8 in up from your work.Stitches will be shorter on thicker leather due to the action of the pivot, but it is only a minor difference. You may notice it but most will not see any difference. And besides it is easy to change stitch length with a luxury machine such as this. Gump.
