When you have a high volume output a custom made binder can make sense. When you brake down the costs to the piece it no longer "looks" too expensive. But when you bind 10 bags it does not make much sense except your work is exceptional and you ask very high prices for your work. I´m using some cheap standard / off the shelf binder attachments which I have modified a bit and they work very well. But I`m not binding with leather straps, I´m using 1 - 1.5mm webbing tape. I´m using a Pfaff 345 with synchronized binder. I have attached a Pfaff 145 flat bed binder bracket and it works fine. See this thread: I posted this in another thread already, maybe this binder works for you but check with the seller because of the mouth width and tape thickness you can use: http://www.ebay.com/itm/CONSEW-225-226-Singer-111G-111W-211G-211U-211W-RAW-TAPE-BINDER-WIDE-MOUTH-CHOOSE-/391723527924?var=&hash=item5b348aaef4:m:mYIrxdPFJ4Ux6fcJPCE3_9Q

dikman What machine should I go for
Constabulary replied to Ballu's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
If the Brother has a large capacity hook just as the Durkopp 267 I would choose the Brother. Why? Because it is a Singer 211 based model and parts and accessories (like different presser feet) are available almost everywhere and they fare fairly cheap. You can also use a lot of Singer 111 (predecessor of the 211) parts and accessories. If the machines are set up to factory standards the sewing capacity should be approx. the same compared with the 267. But if you don´t mind please post detailed pictures of either machines because machines can be set up with different "bells & whistles" and to compare them some more information than just the model name would be helpful. Condition, accessories and motor also matters. What are the prices the seller is asking for? -
TECH SEW 2750 PRO BINDING ATTACHMENT
Constabulary replied to Appaloosa's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
These "plain" binder attachments are most likely for thin fabric tape or bias tape. If you want to bind edges with lets say 1.5mm thick leather "tape" the above would probably fail doing the job. When I was hunting for binding attachments I figured almost no seller mentions the tape thickness you can use with a certain binder since most "expect" that you use bias tape as it is the most common. When you buy a biding attachment the thickness and width of the tape and the width of the mouth opening on the binder matters. This attachment looks quite promising but check with the seller if is works for your purpose (tape width / mouth width) http://www.ebay.com/itm/CONSEW-225-226-Singer-111G-111W-211G-211U-211W-RAW-TAPE-BINDER-WIDE-MOUTH-CHOOSE-/391723527924?var=&hash=item5b348aaef4:m:mYIrxdPFJ4Ux6fcJPCE3_9Q -
well, its a 100 years old patcher - almost no parts are available anymore - maybe some used parts but you never know if they are really better. Just very few parts from "modern" 29K71 fit for can be made to fit. It does not help much If you buy it from a seller who just knows that it can sew. The stitch length matters - worn patchers sometimes just produce 2.5mm stitches when set to the max stitch length which is 5mm in best case (when new of well restored). So be careful - better test the patcher before you buy it. Buy a pack of 29x3 / 29x4 needles (135x17 / 135x16 also fit) and download a manual and test it. If you buy it for decorative purposes or the historical background matters - why not. if you really want to use it I´d look for a patcher you still can get parts for. Old patchers are always a gamble!!! EDIT: I once restored a similar one - maybe this will give you an idea for restoration:

Which feet should I have for a Pfaff 335?
Constabulary replied to GeorgiaK's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
maybe some piping feet - keep in mind the size to order is the thickness of the piping + the thickness of the material the piping is covered with. -
Which feet should I have for a Pfaff 335?
Constabulary replied to GeorgiaK's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
At least a Right Toe Foot and Left Toe Foot and everything else depends on the work, I´d say. A good source in the EU for Pfaff presser feet is College Sewing in the UK. https://www.college-sewing.co.uk/pfaff-industrial-sewing-machine-spare-parts/ Pfaff 145, 345, 545, 1245, and similar also fit your machine. -
no way - it never can sew 24mm leather - check the needle system - if it could sew 24mm it should be at least 794 or longer like 1000 or 331 or similar. I would guess the advertiser just mistyped.

You bought that from a dealer and he is even delivering it? WOW - thats a hell of a deal! I´m sure he is not making much money here! Congratulations!!!

was on the wrong track with the timing belt - 206 has a drive shaft and not a timing belt but I´m sure you figured already

Machine looks very good. That's rather old dried and discolored oil than rust I´d say - try whipping it off with kerosene or the like. Download the manual and oil it accordingly. Open the faceplate and remove the needle plate and check for lint / dirt and gunk. Open the top plate and check the condition of the timing belt. Thats what I would start with.

not sure but seems the little tongue on your bobbin case it not in the gap of the needle plate - know what I mean?

Singer Needle Bar - I Could Use Some Help
Constabulary replied to Constabulary's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
I think Singer 45K or GA5 presser feet will work on it. -
There are better machines for serious leather work out there. Patchers are funny sewing machines and they are good for many purposes but I´d rather look for a triple feed / walking foot industrial machine either a flat bed or cylinder bed machine. Maybe this pinned thread will give you an idea. Since you are in PA I´d check with dealers like keysew.com - they are in Phili, PA. or maybe Toledo Sewing Machine in Toledo, Ohio.I´m sure both offer good used machines (and new of course) and both have an excellent reputation here in the LW forum.

Singer Needle Bar - I Could Use Some Help
Constabulary replied to Constabulary's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Working fine again. My 34K5 is not like your 34K11 - the K5 has the head part of a Singer 16 or the like and the K11 has the head part of a Singer 45K which is much heavier. The K11 is using System 328 needles (AFAIK) and my K5 is now setup for 135x17 (orig. needle system was a different). I don´t know the max stitch per minute, its not mentioned in the manual. My 34KSV5 weights approx 29Kg. Hope this helps. -
British United/John O Flaterhty machine

depends on the market... Condition is not really "beautiful" but when its is fully functional and in this condition I think somewhere between $1000 - $2000. But your treadle base unfortunately is not complete and shuttle is quite worn original tension spring missing and screw holes seem to be worn off. A new owner might want a new shuttle and they are not really cheap. Seems the bobbin winder is missing too - they are hard to find but recently one was on Ebay.co.uk and it did not sell. Check with this seller - he had it for sale: http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/saddlemalc99 Maybe you can get more but depends on the marked and how badly someone wants a machine like this and how fast you want to sell it. This was the original offer for the bobbin winder: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bobbin-winder-for-British-united-Harness-6HM-leather-stitching-machine-/272770015263?hash=item3f825c201f:g:VNUAAOSwsTdZcNmn -

Metal Foundry in Business Since 1847
Constabulary replied to Evo160K's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Now thats really cool!!! How much did you pay for the part? I have no idea how much casting a piece like this would cost nowadays. Speaking of "old school" Co´s - Few days ago I was on the road picking up a bandsaw. Figured the Co. CL Maschinenbau (known as CLAES) is not too far away from where I picked up the saw so I took the chance and made a ~50Km detour. I wanted to buy a few small bits for a patcher machine. So I arrived and at their business hours and had to look around finding the entrance, went up the stairs and stumbled into their office and ask the (very friendly) office lady if it is possible to buy a few small spare parts. Sure she said and she took me down stairs directly to the production site where her father (!!!) assembled a 8346 patcher machine. He gave me the parts and even had the time for demonstrating me a zigzag patcher machine - yes a zigzag patcher !!! - very cool machine. We talked approx 15min about their machines and some old machines they no longer produce and stuff. He also gave me some needle bar adjustment measures for the needle bars of their latest patcher machines (you can slide the NB up and down). I unfortunately was not able to take pictures inside the building but that really was a cool experience. It´s nice that companies like this are still out there. They are gems and you have to find them. I often enough experienced the opposite. -

Constabulary replied to gardengal171's topic in Leather History
Others may have other preference but I use 10w40 motor oil on mine - this is not the oil I´m using for "regular" sewing machines but I think this beast really can use a heavier oil than standard sewing machine oil. -
Top Thread on the 34K11 is threaded like a Singer 45K. Shuttle is threaded like on a Adler 30-7 or Singer 29K72.

3 vintage ADLER & DURKOPP Straight Stich Sewing Machines
Constabulary replied to Constabulary's topic in Old/Sold
oooouuh - thats really expensive. DHL does not ship above 20Kg to Down Under as it seems (at least I cannot buy postage online for above 20Kg - but have to check at the PO). Package is approx 25Kg ready to ship. Australia is most expensive continent to ship to - unfortunately. I will check other options. -

Dürkopp 207 donated. Adler 96: $35 + shipping Adler 37: $25 + shipping Will not go lower - rather sell them on Ebay. -
Ha - now that I see the curved piece on the back side (flat bed rest) I remember mine came with a curved piece too but I had no idea what it it good for - now it makes sense. There are a lot of "standard" pictures of a #6 Machine but often no one took pictures of the details. So THANKS A LOT for the pictures!!! That really helps me I hope I still have this curved piese... have to check...

if I remember correctly there are 335´s w. very short stitch length like 3mm or so but not sure if this is limited by the needle plate only or if it is factory set. So better test the machine before you buy it.

British United/John O Flaterhty machine
Constabulary replied to gardengal171's topic in Leather History
Seems to be a PEARSON #6 HM / BUSMC #6 HM - a while ago I have restored a very similar model but labeled DVSG which is the German equivalent of BUSMC. Check in the sewing machine section for BUSMC and you will figure this machine is still quite popular Parts are quite expensive but they are available f.i. for Aaron Martin in Canda https://www.aaronmartin.com/search.php?searchFor=pearson or check with LW Member SINGERMANIA from Australia - he has at least 1/2 a dozen of these machines and has a lot of parts AFAIK.
