29K1 Pre Christmas Barn Find :-)
Constabulary replied to Constabulary's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
thats the one but the wear on other parts may have an influence on the stitch length too. But basically a new bell crank lever improves the stitch length but it most likely will not bring your machine to the full 5SPI. I yet have not seen a used (or even restored) 29K with full 5SPI. -
I knew I´m observed here... When the skiver is running as expected feel free to post some pictures from that journey but in a new thread then.

I once restored a 29K1 so this thread may be useful for you:

Flip Up Needle Clamp - Double Needle
Constabulary replied to spotty's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Hoped you´d jump in here, Eric! Thanks a lot! Very much appreciated! So when the rest of the gauge sets arrive I will cut the NBRF and NB if necessary. I however may have one or two more questions later. Again - Thanks a lot!!! -
Hi Tor - well Depends on the point of view A "Singer Dude" (heard there are a few out there ) could argue that the Adler system is "cheating" with the front and back stitch length while the Singer system is more accurate... My 45D is hitting front and back in the same hole like a dream - no cheating with adjusting limiter screws necessary - If you know what I mean. At the end it does not matter as long as it works. Both systems for sure have their right to exist. Textima Skiver was a bit a challenge but thats a different story. Excellent engineered machine - fully gear driven, haven´t seen a skiver like this before. First skiver I worked on and seems it is running well again. I was not able to test run it but thats another different story (not telling here since Gigi is watching me )

Flip Up Needle Clamp - Double Needle
Constabulary replied to spotty's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Now that I see the pictures I wonder if the 3/8 needle holder will work at all since it is a bit wider than the 1/4"... it may hit the casting.... Soooo is someone out there who successfully has installed a flip up needle holder on a Singer 212 or similar Juki, Seiko or what ever brand? -
Flip Up Needle Clamp - Double Needle
Constabulary replied to spotty's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
I´m pulling this old thread again. I´m just about installing flip up double needle holder son my 212G141 and I figured they do not work - I have in stalled a new threaded needle bar (had to cut the old one as the original needle holder won´t come off) and just received the holders (1/4 + 3/8 gauge). Installing is no problem BUT the needle bar rock frame is to long as it seems. Pictures show NB at TDC and BDC so the only way would be cutting down the needle bar rock frame, right? I have checked the parts list and G140 and G141 have the same NBRF. In this add the G141 is not mentioned but the G140 and G145 So is the add wrong or the parts list? I don´t think I will find a shorter NBRF for a decent price (machine was a bargain). So my solution would be cutting the NBRF and use (probably) a shorter needle. Or do I overlook something - I don´t think so. -
if you want to give it away for free I take it If not College Sewing has the belts: https://www.college-sewing.co.uk/store/263515-TOP-FEED-BELT-SINGER https://www.college-sewing.co.uk/store/263506-ROLLER-DRIVE-BELT-SINGER

This is the "stitch length limiter" and the small lever is for locking it. The stitch length adjuster in this case is technically just a forward and reverse lever. You find it on some other Singer machines with reverse too not only on 45K´s. Its just a different type f.i. the Adler 4, 5 later 104 + 105 f.i. had screws and wing nuts for limiting the top and bottom stitch length but you had to regulate top and bottom separately. Singer did this with just one screw and lock lever which to me looks a bit more "discreet".

are there plastic parts inside the head? Just asking have not seen one of these Jukis but some parts look like plastic (maybe Delrin?)
-
WOW - thats a nice one and even with reverse. Can´t be much better than in this condition

Video: Lower Needle Guide for Juki TSC-441 class machines
Constabulary replied to Uwe's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
I know I was thinking of an BUSMC 6 where just the needle feeds the material and the foot holds the material in place while the needle is starting a new stitch... I probably misread something - brain fart... forget it. -
That happens quite often. I had that more than 1 time. When I was looking for a patcher a seller even sent me a message the day I wanted to pick it up and told me some one was faster and picked it up 30 minutes ago for the same price - what an axxhole. So better move on and don´t let such idiots bother you.

needle and outer foot I would guess -
There is a tiny pin inside the tension unit that pushes against the release disc (not tension disc). You can either shorten the tiny pin a little bit or you can adjust the center bar of the release disc the pin pushes on when you lift the presser foot. In case you shorten the pin too much you still can readjust the center bar a tiny bit or replace the pin with a piece of bicycle spoke.

A larger hand wheel often make sense but on the 211 machines you have the stitch length marked on the hand wheel so when you install a larger / different hand wheel the stitch length dial is no longer present. Yet I have not seen a larger replacement hand wheel for the 211 that has a stitch length dial.

Singer 132K SV 11 -> a 132K6 variant?
Constabulary replied to Constabulary's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Ha - you hit the Nail, Neil. I was not even thinking of the parts list as it looked too unusual to me . I even have an original parts book "132K6-132K10 and 132K12" So with other words too bad that this machine is no longer complete but maybe its possible to turn it "at least" into a 132K6 as it is quite similar but don´t know. Will see the machine at pentecost... Thnaks a lot for the hint, Neil!!! -
regarding pinned posts - well, pinned post surely make sense and Erics post with worth to be pinned BUT sooner or later you have a long list of pinned posts on top of the site and the the new posts starts somewhere at the end of the page. That makes not much sense. What I would suggest is a "Leather Sewing Machine Reference" section for pinned threads and for (if possible) PDF manuals. So the long list of pinned threads are "out of the way" but still present for a quick reference. Just a suggestion... what do you guys (and Admins) think?

you sometimes find the rivets / pins on ebay along with the plates... Or just buy some brass nails.

Singer 132K SV 11 -> a 132K6 variant?
Constabulary replied to Constabulary's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Jimi, my first guess (or hope) was that it "could" be a needle feed but don´t believe it but who knows... The roller foot seems to be a modification I don´t think it it original to this machines (also a guess). I hope I can take a look at the machine around Pentecost. Haven´t though of a trimmer but that could explain the modified plates. New plates and feed dog are avail. from College Sewing. The plate indeed are the same size as for the 45K but I´m not sure if the cut out is the same. Patria, I have not sewn with a 132K6 but I think 8-10mm thickness should be possible. -
Why the Unusual Stitch Length Lever
Constabulary replied to Evo160K's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
This is the 2nd 45K I see with this modification. Approx 2 or 3 years ago I saw one in Germany but at that time I had no money and it was a bit out of my driving range (meanwhile I drive further). As Matt said, the stitch length lever is lend from a Adler 4 /5 though not sure if Singer probably produced (or modified) a small range of 45K machines with this lever. At that time I assumed someone (maybe a dealer?) once modified the machine for a customer but now that I see another one... not sure. But due to the production date I´d rather say it is a customer / dealer modification. Not sure when Singer produced the first 45K´s with reverse but I don´t think that was in 1915 already but who knows. -
Does someone have information about this Singer 132K SV 11? To me it looks like a 132K6 variant but with (I guess) on/off for the top feed mechnism. I at least have no other explanation for the "device" on the backside (note lever left of top feed mechanism).
