Buying First Sewing Machine...need Help!
Constabulary replied to signaturetack's topic in Sewing Leather
$200 is not very much. I´d say almost impossible to find a suitable leather sewing machine in that price range. I´d check Craigslist (in case you are in the US) but be aware that you probably have to restore or adjust the machine. That may take some time and in worst case some extra $ for spare parts. Check this link http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=25239 it will help you to find out what kind of machine you will need. -
Can Anyone Identify This Sewing Machine Brand Name?
Constabulary replied to llucas's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
not sure but looks a bit like a Singer 366 but w/o reverse.... -
I don´t know the Juki - maybe you just have to make some adjustments - too many machines out there you cannot know all. I´d contact a JUKI dealer (maybe Keystone Sewing Machine Co.) and ask for details.

Sorry - did not read the 1st post - you of course can buy a new bobbin winder, they are just $10 to $15 http://www.ebay.com/itm/BOBBIN-WINDER-FOR-INDUSTRIAL-SEWING-MACHINES-2-1-2-SMALL-WHEEL-/160887974762?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2575abab6a Or buy a nut, a spring and two tension disc but a new bobbin winder is cheaper I think. Piping feet are cheap http://www.ebay.com/itm/SEWING-Zipper-PIPING-CORDING-FOOT-HIGH-SHANK-JUKI-BROTHER-HIGHLEAD-SINGER-CONSEW-/320961619446?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item4abacda5f6 When you are buying piping feet - always add the thickness of the material you wan to sew!!! Otherwise the cutout in the foot is too narrow. When you are looking for accessory feet always make sure they have a "high shank" (don´t buy Pffaf feet, their shanks are even higher than the Singer shanks - at least the old ones)

Thats interesting - I`m just about reworking an old Pfaff (flat bed) that has about the same "issue". The feed dog just moves back and forth but not up and down (not oscillating). After further inspection and comparing with pictures of other machines I figured it is lacking a certain mechanism (an additional driving rod). And after some more research I figured it is a special binding machine and it just does not need this additional rod. Sounds odd but thats how it is. So now hat I read your machine also "was" a binding machine before I think it is possible that the machine was just built that way and it is all correct. But maybe one of the dealers can jump in and shed some more light on this.

Pulling material through makes no sense except you have a darning machine. There actually is a variant of this machine which is made for darning. Is it really sewing when you pull it through or is it just making stitches w/o thread? Maybe you can post some good detailed pictures of your machine and maybe some sees right away what is wrong with it... ATM I only could imagine thta the stitch lenght adjuster is the problem

Now THAT is an impressive statement from someone whos working day in and day out with all kind of sewing machines! That substantiates the impression I have from my old Singers! I can´t help my self but that is exactly what I "feel" when I´m working with my machiens - they all (really all) run like a dream! But I have to admit that all other machiens I once owned (Pfaffs and Adlers) worked well too but I don´t know why I just like the old Singers better and would never trade them for a more modern machien. I will keep them as long as they last.

Techsew 2700 Or Similar Manual
Constabulary replied to shadowryder's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
You can download manual and parts list at the Consew Website: 227R-2 Parts Book and Instruction Manual 227R-2 Spec Sheet (PDF) -
@JoMama You are right, I forgot that my table is deeper than most others. So I was a bit on the wrong track! The idea of SARK9 is good. I think you also can do that with plywood and carriage bolts for the motor. Or use drive in nuts or threaded inserts instead.
-
I´m Sorry but your topic is a bit misleading - you don´t have a broken Cowboy 4500 machine - you just have a broken screw. I´d call your dealer and order one - can´t be too expensive. On my end the website works and when I click on Parts I see this; We stock replacement screws and parts for most industrial sewing machines, including Singer and Adler patchers. We probably have what you are looking for. Please call us toll free, at 866-362-7397 to inquire. sounds like a good idea

The speed reducer it self mostlikely is not the problem. The problem is the position of your SR. I have no problems with mine and I didn´t cut a wider or longer slot in my table. My SR is "home made" but pretty much the same "style". I only had to move the motor a bit to the back. So I would guess your setup is the problem and not the part.

Nice idea Jimi!

I don´t recall how it looked on the Adler 30-1 I once restore but yours really looks very worn! Maybe you can compensate the wear by adjusting the spring the way that it pushes a bit harder against the shuttle... Thats one of the things I like on the Singer 29K´s - the new types have an affordable and replaceable gear box. The Adler gearbox is replaceable too but they for sure will cost an and arm and a leg.
-
What needle system and thread are you using? You can use 29x3 (Dix1, 332) needles and 135x17 (DPx17) they all have the same length. Try to adjust the small spring on the shuttle carrier, maybe it is pushing too hard against the shuttle and the thread has problems to slip through. Is the tip of the shuttle worn or broken? Though you say the timing is correct you sometimes have to play with it a little bit to find the

Glenn - one more for your list: CHRISTIAN MANSFELD, Leipzig http://www.ebay.de/itm//281585878512 Thats a really really nice one, isn´t it? Actually a Duerkopp 18 patcher, right?
-
Well, if I were a dealer and some one wants to spend a few thousands I´d leave the door open a few hrs longer and I´m sure they will when you ask.

Of course not (not exactly sure what you mean) but the one I have linked is obviously an Adler 30-1 but MUNDLOS labeled and not a Singer 29K.
-
Nope - straight Adler 30-1
-
Glenn, I have another one for your list MUNDLOS - but once again an ADLER made machine. http://www.ebay.de/itm/antike-Schuhmacher-Naehmaschine-der-Marke-Mundlos-/181673388298?ssPageName=ADME:SS:SS:DE:3160

But you don´t have the risk of receiving a damaged package from overseas or the risk of a lost overseas package when buying in the US. And you may have it much sooner when you are buying from Weaver. I´m sure Sieck will ship by boat and not Airmail. It of course is you decision but you have to ponder the risks.

Have you seen this website? They also have your "Steroids" patcher as it seems: http://schiffmann-orthopaedie.de/fussorthopaedie-beckingen-merzig-lebach/antike-schuhmacher-naehmaschinen/

Pay me for gas + expenses and I will pick it up for you - quite a trip all across Germany. I will let others have the binder as I´m not a collector and have no use for it. I guess it will go higher than 55€ Did you know of Martin Decker patchers?
