  1. It looks like a HA-1 (Singer Class 15 Clone) made in Japan. Although you said it appears to have been made in Ontario. I just acquired a White 619 that looks identical, and research on the many vintage sewing machine forums lead me to information regarding the generic Singer Class 15 clones that were manufactured in Japan under many, many , many different brands. Mine was missing a few parts, but I sourced them from a Singer 15-88 and after a good cleaning, oiling, and polishing, it sews like a dream. I have an Industrial machine for my heavy leathers, and the most I have sewn with this one is 3oz (2 pieces of 1.5oz leather together). Not sure I would want to try 4 to 5 oz leather with it. My White is just for wallet interiors. That is a great machine you have and I would definitely hold on to it. Karina
  2. Have not seen any videos on the process but have read plenty of articles and they all say that they take the rod/ram (Square piece) to a machine shop and have them drill two holes. One in the center of the ram/rod that will accept your tool, and one on the side that will accept a screw so that you can tighten the tool in place.
  3. Simply Awesome!! Very nice bags, I bet your customer was over the moon. Can't wait to my leather working skills are on that level. Glad to hear good things about Waterhouse, I placed my first order with them 2 days ago. My order hasn't arrived yet but now I will be waiting by the door for the delivery. Karina
  4. The bag leather I am referring to is sold at Springfied and is listed as Bag leather but it may very well be called something else at another supplier. I am only using Mod Podge on the edges, never as a top coat. I don't try to burnish bag leather but if I put a dab of Mod Podge on the edges it gives it a finished look. I was making a leather purse strap for a purse I made and simply added lining leather to the back of the bag leather and top stitched. The edges looks unfinished this way, so this is where the MP comes in. I can see now how folding it over then top stitching would have solved this, but I am still learning so that would be something I try the next time. Karina
  5. I don't think it's reinventing the wheel when Mod Podge is already on the market and has many different uses. If one was thinking of ways to make the product from scratch, that would be reinventing the wheel because so many options already exists. What we all have to consider is that their is always more than one route to take to get from A to B. No right way or wrong way, just a persons particular preference. Ask several people here how to do something and I am sure you will get a myriad of answers. I haven't been able to burnish a 2oz piece of bag leather but I am new so maybe you can share how you do it since you have never had a piece you couldn't burnish. Karina
  6. Using Mod Podge is an old trick in the sewing world to control fraying. I have also viewed a few leather working videos on youtube that shows how they use it which lead me to trying it. I use it myself on leather pieces that are just impossible to burnish, as well as on veg tan projects that I want a super shine on the edge and it works great. There is also a product on the market that is designed for the leather world (the name escapes me right now) but I haven't tried it because Mod Podge is pretty cheap and it does the same thing. Karina
  7. You have to be patient, have you thought that those that looked at the post didn't have the answer for you? Just like me! Many here have full time jobs and haven't seen the post yet, but trust that when someone that has the answer see your post, they will gladly share. Karina
  8. Sent you an email. Karina
  9. Great products for a newbie. That duffle bag is my favorite, but all of them are super nice. Karina
  10. I just saw the email as well and I did have a good laugh. Didn't the poster say they contacted TandY?
  11. That is pretty cool!
  12. Thanks, I do have a belt sander, and I was going to send the hubby out for some polish compound and see if he can clean them up a bit. He did use a file on one of them to sharpen the edge and with one strike it went right through the 3oz leather, so I think they will be fine once I sharpen them. Karina
  13. Thanks for posting the list. I will definitely have to take a look and maybe give them a test drive. Karina
  14. I got mine about a week ago, and when I saw them, my thought was that they wouldn't cut melted butter and they wouldn't. I only tested one, and with three strikes with the maul it wouldn't even cut through 3oz leather. I also knew that if I cleaned them up and had them sharpened they would do what I needed and I am sure they will even though I haven't done that yet. I like how you cleaned them up billymac. What did you use? I was looking for a shop to drop mine off at and have them cleaned up and sharpened, but if it is something my hubby can tackle at home I will let him have at it. I had mine shipped to Panama and they arrived in about 9 days. Karina
  15. This guy is a joke! He couldn't possibly think he has a patent on any and every leather strap made with bullet conchos on it. Not to mention, he did not start his patent process until 2011, and it was not approved until March 2013; use in commerce would supercede this as I am sure dog collars with bullet conchos were in the market place looooooong before he started his patent process. All one would have to do is show the sale of a dog collar with a bullet concho on it before his patent was approved and there would be nothing he could do about it. I am amazed they even approved a patent on this. If I worked in a law firm I would definitely ask the question to be sure, just curious, but why have you not done that yet? Personally I think this guy is full of it. Karina
  16. It's not out of print, you just have to look around, I got one back in February 2013 for $18.95 including the shipping which was brand new still in the plastic wrapper, which was the 2012 version. If I remember correctly I got mine from Books A Million. I too saw the crazy prices they had on Amazon, which is why I started looking elsewhere for it, and I was lucky enough to find it for a decent price. Karina
  17. I looked at the attached image on his patent and I took a look at yours on your site. I guess one can say they are similar but to me that is in no way infringement. Yours have and additional element. Depending on the type of patent he holds, one can take a product and improve upon it without infringement which would include for example, the additional element, a wider band, etc. I think you responded in the proper manner, although being a hobbyist or doing them one by one by hand does not matter, (you only have to sell one), I too would have requested detailed information on his product. When he made the statement "we can take care of this amicably" I immediately thought that this guy is just trying to dupe people that are not knowledgeable on the subject, but that's just me. When/if he contacts you again, tell him that you requested the detailed information on his product so that your Attorney may review it, just to see what response you get. I would then contact an IP Attorney, (usually they will give you a free phone consultation) and see what he says. Good Luck with it all! Karina
  18. When you said the Galaxy was big as a fridge I thought that was funny and didn't realize how big it was until I was shipped the Galaxy 4 from Sprint. WOW this thing is huge compared to my last smartphone. Now it is time for me to make a case for it. I have the otter box for it but that just makes it even larger with all that armor. Hope my case is as nice as yours. Karina
  19. Haven't heard of this yet (am out of the Country) so I will definitely have to read up on it. I rely heavily on Photoshop for my photography and web design business and currently I have every version since CS3 up to the current version of Adobe's Master Collection and if I have to go to a subscription only service I think I will forever stick with the latest version I have which is CS6. I use several laptops and desktops in my work and a few of my computers are still loaded with CS4 which works perfectly for what I need so CS6 may just be the last version I will ever use because I highly doubt I will pay for a monthly subscription. I would really hate to have my hands tied like that. They have gotten a lot of money from me over the years and I was a ware of when they launched the subscription plans, which I thought was great for those that maybe could not afford the entire suites, but forcing everyone to go that route is definitely about the money. Pure Greed, although I am sure they are saying it is because of the piracy. Karina
  20. ROFL...I thought that was pretty funny as well. (Still laughing )
  21. Nicely Done!
  22. I haven't flown with tools in my carry on, but knowing how crazy TSA can get, I would suggest checking them just to be safe. Never know when you might run into one that is having a bad day and end up loosing your stuff. I live part time in the US and part time in Central America and I have to bring items back and forth all the time and it is just less of a hassle to put any times that may be construed as a weapon in my checked luggage. Don't leave it up to them to interpret if it is a weapon or not as it will never be in the customers favor. When I return to the States next month, I will have at least 6 rubber maid containers filled to the brim with my tools and the rest of my crap, and it is always easier to just check them all. Good luck with the move!! Karina
  23. I am loving it! Love the contrast of the red and black. Looks well made. Simply Beautiful.
