  1. Yeah, no! Actually, it won't be a headache to make if you know how to use Fusion 360 and a CNC machine which I happen to own and know quite well. I just got busy with paying projects and all and put that project on the back burner.
  2. I like the concept, I saw this last year some time and started engineering a similar one to cut out on my CNC machine. I apparently shelved the project, as I forgot all about it until this post. I think it may be time for me to dust it off and get back to working on it. I like the fact that it attaches to a table, I didn't like that it was made out of laminated plywood. My prototype is out of MDF because it's cheap, but the finished product will definitely be a hard wood. Let us know how you like it after you have put it through it's paces. Karina
  3. Elfita sells it, Hightex sells it, there is a company on Amazon out of Japan that calls it the Cutman 25 that sells it, and one other seller I contacted that I can't think of right now, so I am not sure how this press is "exclusive" to Diamond Awl. I have looked into this press thoroughly, and it is a nice little press, but in the end I went with a different option. Karina
  4. I was able to put my hand on the booklet. Found it in the bin where I keep all my business receipts. I have been an Elite Member since the day I started shopping at Tandy about 7 years ago. Never paid a membership because all I had to do was fill out some paperwork and fax them a copy of my Business License and Elite Memberships is free. Now, just so everyone understand I am going to use the item I purchased as an example. I only buy 6/7 oz European Single Bend from Tandy. If you look at the website you can see the price as follows: Elite: $156 Gold: $165.80 Non-Member: $194.99 Now, In the Business Pricing Booklet, the cost for 6/7oz European Single Bend is $152.10, which is what I paid the last time I was at Tandy, and the European Bend was not on sale. The date on the Booklet says effective October 1, 2017. Again is this new pricing, I don't know but I was told it was. Karina
  5. I have been an Elite Member since I started with Tandy. I never paid an annual fee because I am a business and I gave them my TAX ID Information - that made it free for me - or anyone else that wants to give them there tax id information that is not Military/Veteran/Emergency Responder.. The new booklet I was given I was told it was the new Business pricing that would save a few cents more, and like I said in my previous post, the cost of the item I purchased was $4 less than the Elite pricing. Whether or not this had been around for years, I don't know. I too was told this was new pricing. I asked the Manager how do I go from Elite to this new business pricing and I was told that I was automatically moved to that pricing structure. I wish I could put my hands on the booklet they gave me with the prices. Karina
  6. I was told about this pricing a few months ago at the Atlanta Tandy, and the price difference for the side of leather I bought was Elite $156, Business $152. Not substantial at all but I guess $4 savings is better than nothing. Karina
  7. Exactly how I have mine set up. Karina
  8. Someone asked about doing this a couple of years ago and I posted this link that shows you how, but I can't for the life of me find anything on this site so here it is again. https://www.instructables.com/id/Sculpted-Leather-Tech-Cases/ Karina
  9. I use the cheap DIY method of a spirit lamp. Total cost to make, about a $1 - Empty glass baby food jar with lid, denatured alcohol, and a wick from the Craft store that costs $1.00 Drill a hole in the top of the lid, pour alcohol in the jar, stick the wick through the hole in the lid, close the lid tightly, then light. Hold your creaser over the flame and test on scrap leather to make sure it is heated enough. Karina
  10. Dang, I guess I missed it. I would love the turn shoe DVD. Karina
  11. My last thought was to try different blades. But I decided to give this thing another try this morning, and holy crap, I figured out the problem. In the front of the skiver, there is a bolt that allows you to rotate the angle of the blade. (Red Arrow) Once I did that I got my first skive. I seriously have no idea how i missed that my first go around, but once I figured that out, it is as easy as in the video I watched. In the picture this is I think 5.5 oz drum dyed vegtan and it skived with ease.
  12. After testing and testing, I was not able to get it to skive ANYTHING! Didn't matter the thickness of leather, nor the tannage, I never got it to work. I saw videos on YouTube of how it should work, but I never got mine to skive. Mine is now sitting in the box on the shelf collecting dust. I was thinking of getting my own blades for it, but I actually forgot about it until now, maybe I will try that sometime in the near future. Karina
  13. I go off roading but not a jeep - in a Land Rover. Check out the off roading forum called Expedition Portal., they have a section on Jeeps and that is all those guys and gals talk about so you will find tons of great information. Karina
  14. I use a Vector Program Corel Draw or Illustrator to design my templates. Not free and they both have somewhat of a steep learning curve, but Inkscape is very similar and is Free. Plenty of tutorials on Youtube that will get you up and going. Karina
  15. Waited for red shirt Wednesday so I could also get my $5 off and ended up buying 4 sides. Nice stuff. Karina
  16. Here are a couple of threads, maybe reach out to them to see if they can point you in the right direction. There is another thread that I know of on here but for the life of me I can't find it. I also think he started selling the unit, but he did go through what he did to accomplish it.
  17. I have been looking at this machine for about 4 years now and still have not pulled the plug on it. At the time when I first started researching it the price was over $800, now on Ebay they are half that. Over on the CNCZONE forum they have a section that is dedicated to these units with all the different mods and upgrades to turn this unit into a great little laser cutter, plus you can get answers to any newbie questions you may have or problems you may run into. @electrathon it will be interesting to see how you get yours going and the issues (if any) you run into. If the build goes well I may go ahead and grab one. I have an X-Carve CNC machine and a company called J Tech has a laser cutter attachment for my CNC machine, I was leaning that way, but if things goes well with your set up, I might just rethink adding a laser to my CNC and get a separate unit, that way I can CNC and Laser cut/engrave at the same time instead of tying up my machine and have to wait until one is finished. 18. This type of set up works well for me. My products are currently in 9 Brick and Mortar stores around the US. They are called Stockist.(If this is who you are referring to) Yes they pay a discounted price for my items, but they buy in bulk and pay upfront. I get a fair price for the discounted item because the item is priced to where I am happy with the deal, but once it is theirs, they can do what they want with it - not my issue anymore unless it hurts the brand. This works out well for me because I would never be able to sell that much volume on my own. I have no real web presence and I hate Social Media. Facebook needs to be pushed off the nearest cliff (along with fidget spinners but that is a rant for another day.) I do use Instagram but I rarely post - maybe once or twice every few months and to get followers you need to be posting 3 to 4 times a day unless you buy followers and I just don't have the time nor the interest in doing that. I did hire a person to do the Social Media work for me on a 6 months trial period, and although followers and sales increased, it was not even a fraction of the sales I get from placing my items with Stockist. My joy is in making the product, all the work I have to put into photographing the item, writing blurbs about the item, advertising, marketing, and social media, is like a second job all in itself, and I am simply not a fan of that - so I chose the Stockist route when it was presented to me. They buy the item from me and they do all the work to sell it - or not - either way, I have already been paid. The products placed in these stores are small leather goods, no weekenders, satchels, messengers, or totes - those along with other leather goods I sell at pop up shops around Atlanta. For a large established brand, I am sure this makes no since at all, but for a small shop such as mine, it is a great way to get your product in front of people you may not be able to otherwise. It may not be worth it to everyone, but for me it is the perfect set-up. Karina
  19. Looks great! I have to say I too have broken several bits milling aluminum and brass. Karina
  20. I just purchased a set of these in two different sizes. They haven't arrive yet but they were so cheap I thought....why not? I got mine from this Ebay seller and they are dirt cheap. http://www.ebay.com/itm/331720984663?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&var=540835348130&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT The 3mm 4 piece set was $5.99. Glad to see they aren't crap! Karina
  21. I get credit cards in the mail often - they are solicitations to open credit card/loan accounts. They have no real information on them and are perfect for this. I also reuse the cards that are no longer valid/expired. For example the bank just finally changed my debit cards to chip cards, so the old ones will be added to my collection for taking pictures of wallets and such. You can also use your grocery store card, library card, auto parts card, movie rental card, basically any discount card, they will all work. Karina
