  1. Hereford Bi-Products is a good place to get rawhide. They should be listed in Gail's books, if not, they are on her site
  2. I will hopefully be going. I did get accepted into the Amateur saddlemakers competition. Hopefully I have the saddle done in time.
  3. Looks like you've been diggin through the archives Pete!! They are pretty cool. I really like seeing all those riggin bodies in different stages.
  4. Well it didn't take me long at all. His name is Barry Fribance. He comes into the store quite regularly. She said that he isn't really building anything anymore.
  5. CJ, I'll do some digging as my sister works for Arlee in his store. Hard to say who it would have been back then. I'm a Saskatchewan born kid myself. Left there 8 years ago.
  6. I'll be sure to send you a bottle in your package Bruce!!
  7. As far as I'm concerned, the new price is pretty dang cheap. And most people that own them (including myself) would have to have a pretty good reason to give them up.
  8. Looks great!! Just thought I'd throw a little tip out for people to try. Go buy a bunch of various sized Craftool veiners (preferrably with no scallops on the inside) Now sharpen them up...yes I mean grind them til they no longer look like stamps... they make great filigree punches!! I have been using mine for as long as I have been doing filigree. Along with different sized drive punches and the exacto for tight corners filigree becomes twice as fast if not faster.
  9. Marlon, Thanks for the compliment. The pattern is my own. I have it in a couple sizes including a purse sized one. Also all my floral patterns are drawn by me.
  10. Hey Doug, The loop is pretty simple, I just punched two 1/2" slots aproximately 3/4" apart vertically on the front. I then skived each end of the loop stock and slipped one end into each slot. The attatchment is up to you, I riveted each end but you could also stitch it. As for compartments, there is a center divider with a stiffener in the middle. One side of the divider has 6 pen pockets, a 3 X 4 pocket and a business card pocket. I meant to take pics of the divider before assembly but of course I forgot!!
  11. Thanks Bruce. The gussets are burgundy bullhide which just happened to match the burgundy lining PERFECTLY!! I would have used hair on but I can't stand looking at my work a while down the road just to see that it has SHED OUT!! Remember, decapitation is preferrable to a buck off!!
  12. Thanks Johnny. Gussets were 4 1/2 before stitching. Total size is 11 X 14 X 4
  13. Here is a case that I finished yesterday. It's my 2nd case and also the first one I machine stitched.
  14. Good looking halter and GREAT WORK!! Glad to see that I'm not the only one using that brand of halter. LOL I have two coming up to do that are actual zebra print. A friend of mine's dad is a taxidermist and used to have pieces of the real thing kicking around. Kinda glad he doesn't have any more or the girl couldn't afford the halter.
  15. I buy them directly from McMillen. They are located in Sunrise Beach MO. The phone number for them is, 573 374 7780. You can also buy McMillen tools through Bieler's supply. I paid $22.00 a piece for them directly from McMillen.
  16. I have a McMillen #5 and #6 they are really good for the price I paid. I also have one from Bob Douglas that is REALLY NICE!!
  17. Purchase Tom Hall's "Western Tack Tips" and More Western Tack Tips" through Hidecrafters. Leather choice is entirely up to you and what you like to use ie, latigo, harness or veg tan.
  18. I too am a finish carpenter. I fell into carpentry right out of college in 97. The leather shop takes all the free time I have to offer it.
  19. If you already own a Toro 3000, call up Artisan and they can help you out and will tell you the best option. They sell both servo motors and speed reducers
  20. Call Weaver's Machinery sales dept at 1800 932 8371 and they may be able to help you, as they sell many parts for them as well as reconditioned ones from time to time
  21. Ed, You may want to try Warkov-Safeer Leather Ltd. They are located in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada but they usually have a pretty good inventory when it comes to thread and findings. The #'s are 1-800-665-8619 or 1-204-943-3753 email sales(at)warkov(dot)com
  22. Lippy, not to pick on you but Bruce was being sarcastic in his last post. Bruce and his wife along with a few other leatherworker members and myself sat at the same table at Sheridan Leather's appreciation party last year. I started using Bob's blades a couple years ago and absolutely love them as well.
