Does anyone make a mold gun for these?
-
50, been looking at the Air over Hydraulic. Probably be fairly soon. Was in the plan. The steel will be awful cheap if not free. And it is available. Might need to hang another set of springs on the press. And the press will need to spread its force wide. When you unfold a western holster with the skirt/flap full length, that is big. The skirt runs the full length of the holster. As you can see, I don't care for the big wide skirt.

Thanks Colt. The press was on sale for 199.99 but I had a "super coupon" that put the price to 159.99. Now I gotta get a couple of burgers off the grill and bulk up to take that thing off the trailer. I guess everybody had fun putting the press together.

As I have read, the 12 ton is at the edge of strength for the clicker dies. At this price for a 20 ton, if I can squeeze 15 or so tons, I will be satisfied. I believe I am getting two 3/4" plates the width of the working space of the bar and long enough to place a holster. And they may be free or very close to it. I have read that some of us have the plates "level" sanded so that they will match up. Has anyone? BTW, thanks for your responses.

For giggles and grins, I may pick this up today. Is there anything I should be wary about? They have the two but only this one is on sale. Makes one think..................I will use it for the usual stuff. Belt slots, holes, and work into clicker dies. http://www.harborfreight.com/20-ton-shop-press-32879.html I have a coupon and a flyer that says I can get it for $154.99 until Oct. 10.

http://www.tools4flooring.com/personna-pro-63-0222-folding-carpet-knife.html http://www.irwin.com/tools/utility-knives-blades/irwin-fk150-folding-utility-knife The top one utilizes a thin blade (less resistance) with 4 corners and can be rotated and will last a long time. For straight cuts or flowing lines cuts better than a utility knife. I use the second one for sharp curves or, heaven forbid, tight corners.

So clean and neat. Jealous. Great work.

Lever Gun Scabbard Lining
Red Cent replied to shaneruss's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Sounds like you have a mixed bag of problems. I would line it with thin veg tan leather. If you mean rust when you say humidity, material will not matter. Condensation happens almost anytime you go from cold to hot. Capturing that condensation is a problem also. I would think the customer will ultimately be responsible for rifle maintenance what ever the conditions may be. -
Holster Questions

I use 8-9 outer and a 5-6 liner for SASS holsters and gun belts. -

In CFDA, retention should be zero. One should be able to cock the handgun in the holster with no resistance. While the handgun should not rattle around, perfect fit is not important. As a speed freak in SASS, leather is important to me. My avatar represents the latest vld leather. In CFDA, you start with hand on gun. Thumb on hammer, contact with the grip, but you cannot have your trigger finger inside the trigger guard. At the light, one should cock the handgun as your thumb comes back to get a good grip on the gun, draw and fire in one smooth, and hopefully, fast motion. No special holster is needed other than you won't see very many slim-jims on the circuit. The "modern" western holster will work. All they need is to stretch the pocket to minimize retention to zero. The fuzzy tan rig was what a customer wanted. No way, as far as I know, to burnish the edges. Style look good, I think. The rig with the gunfighter stitch is my personal rig. -

Yet Another Few Questions On Vinegaroon
Red Cent replied to Windrider30's topic in How Do I Do That?
A. Most say cook it in the sun. Never have. And mine does not take two weeks. I use #000 wool. B. I figure if I soak it in vinagroon for xx minutes, I will let it set in the BS bath just as long and it goes onto the BS bath immediately after the soaking in vinagroon. There are some who say that it needs to be neutralized all the way in the leather. Might be a waste of time. -

Holster Lining... Suede Or No Suede?
Red Cent replied to GaryNunn's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I have owned two suede holsters in my lifetime. I bought one for a Smith 39/59 probably 30 years ago. Simple and beautiful holster (OWB) but you could not draw with any haste. I still own the holsters albeit I dismantled the holster and use it for a pattern these days. I have a shoulder holster for my nickel 6 1/2" Smith and Wesson M29. Bought in the Dirty Harry days. It works because you use the gun as a lever and pry the handgun out of the holster. The shoulder holster has been "hanging around" for about 45 years. If you carry a handgun for self defense and use a suede lined holster, I would challenge you to see how fast you cam come from the holster and hit a target. I use suede on the back side of some concealed carry holsters. -
I now use this. I crease. http://www.tandyleather.com/en-usd/home/department/tools/88081-00.aspx One can, after sewing, wet one or both sides of the leather and use this to flatten the stitches. I do the back side. Prominent stitches on a holster looks good to me. https://www.tandyleather.com/en-usd/home/department/tools/8080-00.aspx They make wooden rollers and at half the price (somewhere).

How To Cut Straight On A Scribe Line/pen Mark?
Red Cent replied to DavidL's topic in How Do I Do That?
Wow. What are you making that .04 inches messes up the pattern:)? I use an aluminum yard stick and a very, very, sharp cutter. If it is thick leather, I clamp the ruler down on the leather. A while back, I ran across a knife that is wonderful on straight cuts and mild curves. It has a thin blade and slices through 8-9 smoothly. http://www.tools4flooring.com/personna-pro-63-0222-folding-carpet-knife.html You can use four edges before throwing the blade away. The knife is not magical. Still have to focus
