  1. I think it looks pretty good. I see what ya mean about the stamping, all I can say is grab some scraps and practice.
  2. I can't take credit for it. My wife thought of it. She just said, "so, put a clamp on it."
  3. Stu, patience and practice. It's all punched and stitched by hand. There's one hole out of line and it's just buggin' me.
  4. After dumping a bottle of Tan Coat on myself and an almost empty bottle of black dye across my work table, I started putting an Irwin Quickgrip clamp on the bottles to make them more spill resistant.
  5. Since my last post on this thread, I've changed my edge work a little. I've also worked on my picture takin' too. After the holster's tooled, dyed, molded, contact cemented and before stitching, I do my edge work. First I sand it with a sanding drum chucked in my drill press, then it's bevel, wet, burnish, let the edge dry then gum trag, burnish, let it dry then gum trag and burnish again. After that dries, I do the stitchin', top coat then burnish the edge one more time. I'm pleased with how it turned out. I do all my burnishing by hand.
  6. Good point, sounds like Utah's a bit different from a small town in the mountains of West Virginia. Lately I've had a run on J frame pocket holsters.
  7. Thanks, I'll check it out..
  8. Sounds more like you could use a fid along with a stitching awl. After I got a fid I wondered how I ever got along without one.
  9. Yup, my own personal belt with a solid stainless steel roller buckle. It's also 2 layers of 9 ounce, hand stitched.
  10. Depends on what it's for. For a field holster a stitched belt loop's fine. It can be contoured and stitched. On concealment holsters I prefer a pancake style.
  11. My number most used blue gun is a S&W J frame snubby. Close behind is a S&W 4" 686, a 5" 1911 and a 4" K frame. The plastic frame gun guys see to like plastic holsters.
  12. Looks like you know what you're doin'. Those look nice and clean. One thing, I think I would've connected the two stitch lines at the top.
  13. Very nice, I like the color. I just finished hand stitching a matching double layer belt and holster. The belt's 2 layers of 9 ounce. For a tool belt I made a 2 1/2" wide belt out of 13 ounce leather.
  14. very nice, good edge work and nice stitch line.
  15. Just finished up a matching leather S&W K frame belt and holster today. It's all 9 ounce leather. The belt's hand stitched, double layer leather and I skived the end of the inner layer at the buckle end so it'll taper down rather than have an abrupt stop. All the hardware's solid brass. The leather's hand dyed, stitched, burnished and finished. I've seen some leather holsters with welts, I kinda liked the way they looked. I decided to try a welt on this holster and I kinda like the way it looks. Our cat Natayo likes ot too.
  16. Just finished a 2 pocket soft pouch for a client that wants it for her Renaissance costume. It's made of 4 ounce milled veg tan. Now it's time to start cuttin' leather for a matching belt and holster.
  17. Another time a fellow wanted 2 knife sheaths, one brown and one black. I cut the larger of the 2 and started dyeing it black, then I realized it was the one that was supposed to be brown. Oops again. I was able to cut it down and use it for the smaller sheath, so it wasn't a complete loss.
  18. Mine's just a small American Indian pictograph of a Bear paw.
  19. I had a project not too long ago. I was making a chest holster for my neighbor. The pattern was done and the design was approved so I went to cut the leather. Somehow one side was cut backwards, oops. Fortunately I was able to use the leather for another project.
  20. Hey wait a minute, I can swear I've seen that somewhere else. Beautiful job.
  21. Left hand Bowie knife sheath. Couple of field holsters. One for a 6" S&W 686 and the other's for a 5" Springfield 1911. Group shot. Back side. With the customers guns. Repair job I did on a Gould & Goodrich holster for a S&W K frame snubby. Finally, a pocket holster.
  22. Just a few things I've been workin' on. A chest holster for my neighbor; A Cherokee friend of mine picked up a pair of hand made damascus knives and wanted a couple of sheaths for them. She wanted me to "Indian them up," for her. Rifle sling modeled on my coach gun.
  23. Thanks, the Wolf Paw stamp was a Birthday present from a Cherokee friend of mine. Ya gotta beat the living daylights out of that thing to get a decent impression.
  24. I've been kinda busy lately. I had a client that just got a Harley Davidson buckle and needed a belt to go with it. Had another fellow that got a strong side pancake holster and decided that he also wanted a weak side crossdraw to go with it. Sometimes I just feel like making something for myself and felt like I absolutely had to have a brown basketweave pancake holster.
  25. I'm quite pleased with how it came out.
