  1. Get him to put a (photographed) polished blank into the sheath and then re-photograph. As someone else said, it was probably there all along. Doh... Really should have read the whole thread!
  2. I've managed to hold-off buying one, purely because my large handled Stanley does the job - 100 double blades, changed everytime I start a new project, seems plenty sharp right up to 5mm leather.
  3. Good stuff. But i've never heard a Brit say that Or as you Yanks would say ... Have a nice day, y'all.
  4. Apologies if this has been posted before... https://www.pinterest.com/pin/409405422354384521/
  5. Wow - This thread kinda makes me wish the UK had a branch of OTB! Great feedback to your customers
  6. I used a 3/4" thick slab of marble and sat it on top of one of those lap trays (hard tray on top with a big bag of polystyrene beads underneath). It probably sounds like it shouldn't work, but it does. Also means I can sit sown with the tray on my lap if I feel laaaazy :D
  7. Looks great - and it'll look even better in a few years, having naturally darkened.
  8. I like it - appeals to my utilitarian, no fuss preference :D The handle colour works, too.
  9. I thought the UK was bad for always wanting to ban things...
  10. Not sure what marks you're looking at? Bottom left of the group of lettering and top right look pretty clearly to be plate marks to me.
  11. Yes, you can see two or three of the plate's corner imprints on the first pic, where it has been pressed a bit too vigorously.
  12. I'd go with that... Bear in mind out of the 60 minutes per workshop, your students may only have half that time of practical work... something without stitching is ideal in that sort of time.
  13. Welcome, neebs :D Looks like I live not too far from you! Bit jealous of the quality of your items, though :D
  14. Similar to a set I bought over a year ago... cost approx £5 GBP I use maybe 4 sizes regularly and the larger ones for making washers. Might go at the 1" punch with my Dremel to make a corner trimmer. Haven't sharpened them, though.
  15. A large-handled "Stanley", carpet fitters' style knife. Blades are cheap, so are regularly changed.
  16. My maternal grandfather was a cobbler...to my knowledge, no other member of my family have ever done any leatherwork. Gives me some sort of connection to him despite never meeting the man
  17. Hi, feels a bit like i'm pimping these tools lol... Have a look at this thread: http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=61898&hl= It won't help so much with the edge finishing, but may help with the cutting.
  18. Some are useful for cutting slits in belts - I don't make too many belts but there are cutters in the pack ideal for the buckle slits... something that always looks messy when trying to hand cut. A link for the short-on-time... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/39-Shape-Style-Leather-Craft-Steel-Hole-Hollow-Punch-Cutter-Set-Tool-DIY/271703256742?_trksid=p2045573.c100033.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D29117%26meid%3D614fb75c8b77413283169b3b2f7c7184%26pid%3D100033%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D4%26mehot%3Dag%26sd%3D151583591071
  19. If you put the item number into ebay search, the item will show.
  20. ... Got this little set delivered from Hong Kong today - item 271703256742 on ebay. 39 different hole cutting tools from circles to rectangles and balloon (!) Shapes. I'm assuming the balloon shapes are for smartphone camera holes? Anyway, tried a few in 3mm veg tan and they cut very cleanly indeed. How long they remain sharp is unknown but at £8 GBP, it's a bit of a bargain. Even comes in a little plastic organiser!
