  1. I usually do 5mm or 6mm on 3mm leather - Not sure of your design, but I made this ipad folio a couple of weeks ago:
  2. Resolene has an ammonia smell to it... Some kind of ammonia based cleaning solution? Might be worth trying something on scrap if you can find something suitable?
  3. Watching with interest... My rotary punch tool is blunting already, after hardly any use!
  4. Love it - Looks really 'vintage'. What gun is it? Winchester, Marlin? Or am i way out?
  5. Looks fab!
  6. That looks very handy. I bought something similar, with about 16 separate snap-shut compartments, which can be removed from the case and clipped on to a belt (meant to be for screws and nails) I'm finding that i'm quickly running out of compartments, though!
  7. Hmm... I wish! Here in the UK, we're much more limited to what we can own. No pistols like that one for the majority, anyway. I've owned many rifles in the past from the humble .22lr to .22-250 centrefire. Currently just use a Beretta Urika 391 semi auto shotgun.
  8. I have this book - "The leatherworking Handbook". If the OP contacts me, we can 'Talk'.
  9. That's my next 'big' project for my wife... I'm slightly afraid of the gussetted aspect of the bag, but looking around for a suitable design to work on. Nice bag Do the copper rivets naturally have the little lumps projecting from them? I only have experience of the cheap ones.
  10. Am I looking at the wrong thing? http://www.bonnymans...?productID=6442 Even delivered (UK), this 1 litre container only costs around $30. Interesting, but some sources seem to think it's a bit nasty?
  11. OK, thanks Cyberthrasher - I tried a 1st coat of 50/50. I didn't use Neatsfoot at all on this pouch - It was veg tan to start, then dyed prior to drying for the Resolene. The 50/50 seems to be absorbed much more readily - within a few seconds, and hasn't left any surface issues. I'll allow to dry thoroughly then try your multiple thin coat technique. Next thing i'll try will be something identical to the triangular purse, but with 50/50. Thanks again.
  12. I am taking advice... or is that not clear?
  13. The only other finish i'd used was Tan-Kote, which is MUCH gloopier. The Resolene is almost a milk-like viscosity, so I didn't think it would need to be watered-down. I have a small pouch drying, so I'll try the 50/50 tomorrow.
  14. Aaaah...No, I put it on neat. I apply with a dampened sponge. I'll try mixing some 50/50 like you suggest, thank you.
  15. Hi folks, I made this little triangular purse today... It was made with untreated 3mm veg tan, treated with Neastfoot, dyed then resolene. I'm thinking I should have done the dyeing before Neatsfoot? The little blotches came up after the Resolene stage (No bubbles were left on the surface) Has the concoction forced some oils out of the surface?
  16. Very nice. I'm waiting on my Leatherman being returned after managing to snap the screwdriver Shame most Leatherman tools are locking these days.
  17. Hi folks, I just received a Tandy Alphabet 1/2" (upper case) stamp set - 8130-00 After waiting over a month on it, I really don't like the font type Would anyone in the UK like to swap this set for a much more plain one?
  18. With regard to suppliers... If it's a smaller quantity, try local saddlers' workshops. I found one very close to me, and they were willing to supply the odd hide here and there, and can also order me pretty much anything I need from catalogues without paying excessive shipping charges. Plus, being an established (very old!) workshop, they have some lovely old hardware in solid brass, etc, that they're also willing to sell bits of here and there.
  19. I bought a selection of 4 colours (chrome/brass/antique/black) and setting tool off an ebay seller... All the same size, though. (item 261002503757)
  20. I made a couple from fairly soft leather... I tried a pattern with card first, and cut a large triangle made up of 4 smaller equilateral triangles. Two rivets, or more if you like and a snapper (Or just tuck the flap into the body of the purse)
  21. No It's now winging it's way to my sister's, and I only took a front photo! Very simple at the back - A bit like this bigger one I made. The ipad version didn't have D rings, though.
  22. I've been at this for only a month or so... If I can do it, anyone can lol
  23. Thanks - I like a simpler look to leather, which helps because I can't carve Good point about rounding the cutouts... Mentally stored for next one
  24. Made this for my sister yesterday... She wanted a fairly plain, but robust carry case for her iPad, but it had to also fit the cover in it...
  25. I might give it do the dog to chew Yes, I only bought it because it was cheap, and was interesting to try if nothing else. I think I may just use the leather for dividers on larger items. Cheers for the comments.
