I agree with hiring some help. Even a couple hours a day doing simple tasks will take a lot off of your plate. My day job and commute only allow for 1-2 hours at most a day to work. I've got a backlog of 10 different items to make and added a cell phone case and a custom coaster set to the list this weekend. Lead time is set to two months currently.

Whats with the different color in the knots? I think its my screen playing tricks on me because they look light blue but I think its actually the color of bark. They look awesome but I don't have the space

Anything that is stainless steel, steel, or brass (plated or not) should hold up just fine. If you worried about the strength of a buckle on a gun belt then you probably should look at the weight of the gun lol.

Cheryl, I haven't contributed to your project because money is tight right now(student loans, baby, you understand ). However, I am keeping a close eye on your project!

I'd say double em up and stitch them together. Storing your leather flat may help if you have the space. Mine rolls terribly...should have seen the single layer mousepad I made.

My Mac does spell check darn near everywhere. Still, I keep an eye on it. More than once it has tried to make a simple paragraph a "colorful" one.

Didn't bother looking up emissions on the american versions but the only ones I can compare are the Volkswagen cars. The price difference is staggering (several thousand difference assuming converting from Euro to USD). Usually use a razor knife. I spent 2 hours last weekend polishing my round knife to a mirror finish. It cuts way better now but haven't had a chance to actually cut out a project with it yet.

What does a modestly priced diesel sedan fetch in your area? The ones I've looked at in the states start at $36K USD and go up from there. And can only produce 42 mpg. I personally think that diesels are underrated. They are forced to under-perform in the states due to "emissions".

Only ever owned Chevy, my favorite was my 1987 Caprice Classic Brougham(original leather top intact!!), 305 with a factory 4 barrel that got 25 mpg all the time. (and a darn smooth ride). Bought it at an auction for $1700 with 32k miles and was the second owner. Sold it a couple years later and wished i hadn't every day since. Was a Ford fan till I started working on them in when I was in high school. we sent several fords to get their heads replaced after blowing spark plugs. Both makes have their ups and downs. In my case I saw more downs with Ford. I am definitely NOT a fan of their new aluminum frames. Full disclosure - I just recently signed up to win a new Ford Transit. Which I'd probably sell and use the money to pay off debt and buy more leather.

not sure if its correct (only made one pancake holster) but i used approximately the same distance as the total thickness of leather for the holster. So if I use 2 pieces of 8oz leather for a total thickness of 16oz i'l mark my stitch line in the equivalent of 16oz from all edges. For what it's worth this is also how I determine distance from the edge in all of my projects. Interested to hear what everyone else says though.

+ 1 for this, fingers now only bruise if I really go to town on pulling it tight. made mine out of 4/5 oz suede. Even easier - cut the finger off of thick leather glove that is worn out.

Green can Weldwood works better than any other water based glue I've used. Same as the others though - I prefer the red can.

Well I bought the machine over the weekend. It is a little dirty but other than that looks to be in good condition. No major rust anywhere that I could see. All moving parts were free of blemishes and had a slight film of oil. The motor hummed right along and everything turned freely. The lamp had been removed but that isn't an issue for me. The wax pot is there but the heating element is gone. I didn't plan on using it anyway but I may get the heater and get it working just in case. I will be cleaning it up with wd-40 when it shows up at my place. It does have a nice layer of dust since it was the backup machine. Then oiling it up with 3-in-1 oil. (recommended by previous owner). He said anything about the same viscosity would work just fine. I will also be making a flat bed attachment for it but that may come later on. One tidbit of information that I found extremely fascinating was the warranty provided by the factory - 24 hours a day 365 days a year for 100 years operation. Of course this would require upkeep (oiling, new hooks/awls) that would only be done in a factory setting but it's no wonder that these old machines chug right along after the abuse that some see. For those of you that use or used one of these - I'm looking for recommendations on where to get parts, awls, hooks, types/weights of thread, bobbins, anything else you can think of. I've heard of Pilgrim and will be contacting them soon.

After wearing it for 4+ hours in the car it caused no discomfort this weekend. When i stood up for more than 10 minutes it became noticeable that I was wearing it and it did cause just a bit of discomfort. I will be modifying the design slightly as the tooled piece now jabs directly into the skin instead of sitting flat. I will add about a 1/4" of leather to help cover a portion of the slide and flatten the back side out a bit.
