  1. well what do i think about sharing my craft with other? pay or not. at one point my feelings were share with someone so to help the craft from dieing..handengraving and srimshaw is one of these trades that the computer engraving has hurt..because peaple don't want to put in the time to learn hand type engraving.i have been working at this trade for 20+ years and still learn something new every day..so i took on this kid made tools for him started showing him alot of what i have learned over the year.and better way of doing things.. and one day a friend call me that i have did work for. for many year called to say that the kid was telling him that after working for me for 5 months that he was a master engraver and was trying to cut my line and others thought out town. so that was the last of the last that i showed what to do..bit once never again..
  2. your right my wife has no clue of the value of tools in my shop..don't want to tell her or she will make me stop buying so i give her one of these.. oh that old thing i've had that for years but when i do go to the happy hunting ground i can see it how i'll be turning in the grave. when i see her giving and throwing away those old things. i can hear her how .he told me it was old and has no value anyway he had it for years
  3. Now this is some nice work.. your detail work is to good..
  4. Did ever one move at the same time? its only you and me Ken . What happen to the map?
  5. this is only my 2 cents.. i live on a island with salt water all around me..and all most ever thing i own cars and even the kitchen sink ..and all my tools i have came by ship..and i have never had a problem. its not like they are going to be shipped the tool setting out on the deck of the ship..one thing if you are going to live near the ocean like i do. i would say use AC in your work area it does make the tools last longer .But for 8 weeks your tools will be okay.. but for your peace of mind put them in zip bags ..i don't think you need oil...
  6. I use a Silentaire 50-24-AL and i like it alot i use it with my airgravers and rotary engraving tool and my airbrushes.. but if your son is only useing it with airbrushes i would think maybe the Silentaire super silent 20-A would work fine.. like Forty said your going to have to pay alot more for quiet..

Thats a ITF hermes that i use with a 1to1 arm . i use it when making my masters. when i hand cut fonts and other designs. i also have a TX hermes i didn't get it in the picture that i use to put my design layouts on most of my jobs .. that way i can size the masters to what ever i'm working on at the time.. then hand engrave all the details work .. i use it when i have alot of the same designs to do ..saves a lot of time.. thanks i just moved into this shop..and i really like it .. i hardly do any signs or trophys.. mostly custom silver and gold and ivory work ..and lots of bike parts starting to come in as of late..but like i tell peaple if it will stand still i will engrave it...

Well here is were i do my work its a 20'x23' shop ..the table with the black granite is going to be for doing my leather once i get started .still trying to get every thing i need..the rest of the shop is set up for my engraving and scrimshaw work..
  16. i do my design work most of the time useing a light table . working the design at a size that is comfortable for me.. after i get what i want in a design i then scan it into my computer. useing my wacom tablet and corel or photoshop. i then clean up my art work .size it to what ever i want to put it on .and then transfer it to what ever i what to engrave metal and ivory.. i'm still working on how to transfer my designs to leather..once it gets here that may help that how i do my art work.. i could show you what i do.. but for me its hard to write it out for me if i had to do the design only on the computer it would take me for ever. and time for me is money...just a bit old school..
  17. i maybe the same way as you Jordan. i got the know how and the what for.and a wife that knows how to run a Business. or i would have given away everything long ago. 20 plus years as a hand engraver and a scrimshaw artist working for myself .i still have a hard time when it come to the financial side of my Business..i think maybe thats how starving artists came about. i know a lot of artist maybe not all that are the same way.we love to do the work but hide our heads in the sand when it come to the money side of our business.. before my wife told me we got to eat.. i would give my work away just because someone said they like it..(old days) not anymore now i'm fat and happy thanks to a good woman that knows business..
  18. i'd say go for it .. i have had two homes with tankless water heaters and it is the best money i ever spent.. my first home was two story 3 1/2 bath ,dishwasher, washing machine, with 5 peaple and i never ran out of hot water. and in 12 years i had to call a service man one time and it cost me $75.one thing he told me to do was take the water restrictors out of the faucets thought out the house. he said that if you don't the heater will not work as well because its not getting the full demand for hot water because of the restrictors and there was a big differants after he did that..this is the type heater i have http://www.palomaindustries.com
