April Keep Making Stuff Challenge

Nice Cardinal. Your curve cuts look really tight. I made the mistake of using an Exacto and it flexes so the curved part ends up slanted. Anyone else have suggestions or hints on cutting curves? -

April Keep Making Stuff Challenge

I haven't had much time... I didn't quite finish and it's sloppy due to rushing. I'll post a photo. I'll also post May's challenge in a little while. -

Nice work Monica. -
What kind of leather is it? Where did you purchase it? You might ask them.

I managed to salvage most of my leather and make a slim/mini tote. I'll have to try another drawstring backpack again sometime. -
I agree.

Nice work... no disqualifications. This is just for fun. Redochre - post up some pics too! If anyone else has already made it feel free to post up pics. -
I've got an old Tandy screw creaser that my dad gave me. He did a little leatherwork 30 years ago and put the stuff in the garage. I use it some to mark stitching lines and the occasional edge crease. It might work better if it were heated to the proper temperature. I plan on investing in the French Filetuese tool in the near future.

March Keep Making Stuff Challenge

Oh sorry everyone. I'm a little late. I've been trying to finish some paper work and set appointments to close on a house and other things of that nature today. I'll post it shortly. -

Nice work. I won't be finishing mine. The pattern just didn't work out. I spent over $10 on some nice rope and it's way too short. I've got to get some money out of the leather so I'll probably just finish it as a tote and try to sell it. -

April's will be up on the 1st in a new thread titled April Keep Making Stuff Challenge. -
Oops, sorry forgot to answer you. I don't have any photos of the inside of the tote and it's been sold. Here's one of the outside.

Cross Draw Sheath
thefanninator replied to thefanninator's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Backside is a little rough because the layers are so thick. I use different tools and techniques for different things. Usually I use a stitching groover, make a groove and then use a Tandy diamond chisel, punch all the way through and stitch with Tandy poly braided cord. But on this one I wanted more SPI and a finer thread. I used a screw creaser to make a line, marked my stitches with my Vergez 7 tpi pricking iron, punched it pretty hard to get it in deep. The used an awl and stitched with Crawford 3 cord linen thread from Royalwood. I think my awl needs sharpening because pushing it through all those layers was tough. -
Hermann Oak 8/9 oz., neatsfoot oil, Fiebing chocolate & finished with Tan Kote, 7 spi. What do you sheath makers usually use? I think 8/9 may be a little thick.

I got close to finishing but there are a few design flaws. I may unstitch and try it right side out, then stitch the corner pieces on. My piece of rope is too short also. -
I'd just throw away the Eco-Flo. Buy Fiebing dyes and then Tan Kote.
-
I highly recommend using one piece of leather just like veedub3 said. Saves times and the bottom inside is much nicer.

Anyone working on this? Currently working on mine. Hitting a few bumps. I think my 2.5 oz is too thick to draw it closed but we'll see when I'm finished. 36" rope is probably too short. The triangle gromments don't go on very easy due to the sides being stitched inside out. -
Tboyce did you or anyone else ever make this? Currently working on mine. Hitting a few bumps. I think my 2.5 oz is too thick to draw it closed but we'll see when I'm finished. 36" rope is probably too short. Did it work for you? The triangle gromments don't go on very easy due to the sides being stitched inside out.
