I could be wrong as the angle isn't the best to see it but to me, it looks like they simply beveled it away from the raised part and the "raised" part is just the normal thickness of the leather

did you get one with a steel blade or ceramic? Also, make sure you case the leather properly. One thing I found that helped was the carving additive that Tandy sells ( https://www.tandyleatherfactory.ca/en-cad/search/searchresults/2621-02.aspx )

overall nice work. Stitches look evenly spaced, edges look good. Only thing is the clock face isn't quite round but overall good job. Question though, what did you use to hold the iphone in place?

2 tools you'll want to invest in for hand stitching, an over stitch wheel system (sets up your stitches the same distance apart) and the stitching groover (used to make your stitches be the same distance from the edge). Might not work so well on chrome tanned stuff but works great on veg tanned. Far as upcycling the leather, good for you and the wallet over all looks nice

another thing you can do is get a small electric motor like from a small pump, leave the pulley on it and wrap it with canvas. Attach it to a table or bench and turn it on and then you have both hands free to hold your leather piece. Obviously this is better for smaller pieces and you want to make sure you get a motor that has a lower rpm so it doesn't turn too fast

never been a fan of guns but as far as your work, it looks pretty good. Only thing I noticed is on the top picture, doesn't look like you burnished the edges which would make it look smoother. But your stitches look evenly spaced and straight along with the rest of the work looking pretty good.

Bought some hair on hide scraps a few months ago because my son kept playing with it when we went to the tandy store but couldn't come up with any ideas on just what to do with it. I noticed the other day that his school communication book was starting to wear on the edges and decided to make this. Didn't have enough to do the entire thing so the back and inside is made with chocolate garment leather I had kicking around. All seams are glued and machine sewn. The insert on the front with his name is 2-3oz veg tanned dyed with canyon tan (who knew tan was actually red)

it looks good and that's the nice thing about leather working, we get inspired by what others have made and turn a project into our own

actually I use a ton of them every fall but I use them to put preserves in, not to drink from I think it was more based on confusion on how she described what she wanted then not being used to being around mason jars

Have to love when someone sends you a very crude drawing and a very bad description of what they are looking for and it turns out great but not what they wanted What I thought they wanted was just something to transport a mason jar in to go back and forth to work, turns out they want something to keep the jar in and be able to pour from it. Oh well, still think it turned out well

looks good and while I like the way you followed the skulls and flowers and things with your stitching, I'm sure some will think you should have adjusted the carving so you could have did a straight edge with the sewing but I like it

well, it wasn't my choice of a jacket and the owner loved the jacket but couldn't wear it anymore so as long as she's happy with it, that's what matters the most

I've never really looked at the rabbit skins as I haven't had anything I've wanted to do with rabbit lining. I would get a hold of Ashley (she's the store manager, very helpful when I go in, not to mention cute) and I'm sure she can will do something for you

was over at tandy today and after looking at the leathers, think I'm going to hold off until I can afford some good moose or buffalo or something heavier. Looking at the lighter deer hide just didn't look like it would hold up well enough to last and make it worth the money and work.
