  1. Watching that cat use that steel, I thought he was intentionally dulling the blade.
  2. I don't want my table deeper than 2' so I can reach everything while sitting in my chair.
  3. I started with a granite sink cutout. Those sharp edges sucked! The thin material broke eventually. I ordered a surface plate stone off amazon and it was great. My brother saw that, and said hey, you need anymore of this? I said he'll yeah, I'd like a big chunk so my longer work pieceso could fit on it without falling over the side. 2 days later, he brought me that huge chunk of granite.
  4. Thanks yall. Yeah, I wanted to be able to find all my stamps while sitting and tooling. I can't tell you how much time I spent fiddling with that spray can paint lid looking for tools.
  5. I have been wanting to get one and use it for punching and border tools. Does it make punching quicker on repetitive tasks? And do the tools stay sharper longer?
  6. I use the same one as Dwight. Works good enough for me. Two things 1) Don't over tighten the thumb screw, it can break the casting. 2) I use utility knife blades in mine so its easy to keep sharp. It doesn't cut well dull.
  7. Someone stole my card number, and they must have loaded up a fake card with my info. They proceeded to go to walmart and buy $60-90 worth of stuff back to back till they couldn't buy anything else. Then they went to taco bell and the gas station and bought $1-2 worth of stuff until the card maxed out. I had to talk to the card folks for an hour on the phone reassuring them that I didn't buy that stuff, and that I have never even been to Las Vegas. I had o fill out an affidavit before they would reverse the charges.
  8. I bet itll pay for itself. I bet itll pay for itself.
  9. I use my 2 pound poly head maul for my 2" oblong punch, but I wish I had a 3 lbs for those big punches.
  10. I have been keeping my stamps in a spray can lid since I started leather working. Decided the new bench needed a nice tool rack. This piece of knotted black walnut has been laying around my shop since 2009. I dressed up the sides with some burl walnut veneer, and made a base with a chunk of butternut burl I had laying around. The butter nut was so warped and crooked, I could only get a few small straight pieces from it.
  11. You probably tool a lot bigger stuff and have a lot more tools than I do. I am relatively new to leather work, so I am sure I will revise my bench once I get a better idea what I need/want. I already don't like the diagonal braces. I will probably try moving them to give me more leg room.
  12. My brother is working at a cemetery complex this month, and he became friends with the monument maker there. He brought me this big 3.5"×17"×40" marble/granite stone a few days ago. I decided to build a table around it. I built the table 2x5 feet and the top is 34" from the ground. I had to add the diagonal braces to steady up the table. That chunk of rock weighs a lot. I still need to figure out where everything will go on the pegboard, add a power strip, and make a tool rack for all my stamps.
  13. The sewing machine decided to be a complete PITA when I sewed that bag. I couldn't get it to sew right for anything. I think it was just poor temper leather. I made it from scraps/left over parts from hides I use to make purses. My mother was telling me how much she likes the wrinkles in that part of the hides, but I was telling her I don't use it on purses and stuff because it just doesn't sew consistent enough to get good stitch lines. It took me awhile to get the machine back situated again to sew right. These machines can be very frustrating at time. I love/hate deer skin. Love the way it looks and feels, but I hate how easy the lighter colors get dirty. Thanks everyone.
  14. I make canvas and leather bags with the leather on the bottom. Depending on the types of material you use, you will want to choose the correct needle. A normal chisel point leather needle will cut vinyl and fabric and make it more susceptible to tearing at the stitch line. The other thing to keep in mind is lining up the leather and synthetic seam on the sides. So you want to be careful with your construction to make sure everything lines up pretty. Other than that, it isn't a big deal to sew cloth, vinyl, nylon, canvas to leather.
  15. Oh yeah, looks like they went up since last time I priced them. Bob at Toledo Sewing in Ohio sells for 995 plus shipping.
  16. Check into the Consew 1206rb which is very similar to the consew 206RB, it's just a more economically minded version. I believe about 800$, leaving room to ship out.
  17. Hi Mike, I have two with black heads left. $55 plus shipping ( which is about $8)
  18. I wouldn't ship with the head attached. I drove from Arizona to WV with my machine ( consew 206) intact, and the vibrations broke all the welds on the table.
  19. I've done the same thing with my draw gauge a few times.
  20. I ditched USMC black too, Never ended black rub off. The Pro oil Dye black has been a much better product for me.
  21. I'd rock those boots without all the hippie stuff. Nice design and execution.
  22. A lifelong friend is getting married, and another friend bought him a kit muzzleloader pistol as a wedding gift and asked me to put it together. I decided to make him a possibles pouch to go along with the pistol. Is is made from cognac colored heavy garment leather, lined with canvas, and trimmed in deer skin. The Strap is 5/6 ounce vegtan with a wool felt liner. I put two rows of stitching on it "just because". My friend is into bushcraft and stuff, and likes to make his own waxes. I figured I would let him duck the canvas.
