  1. Hi Ray, I've never used one of them things, maybe you can tell me what it does that makes it better than useing traceing film. Does it make patterns easier to trace or maybe easier to see? Thanks Troy
  2. I don't need enough of them to make it profitable for either of us, but if you ever do start making slotted 1/2" conchos holler. Right now I'm just buying 1/2 inch conchos cutting the post off then drilling holes and slotting them with a file. Thank you Troy By the way are the post just soldered, can I just heat them up and take the posts off?
  3. That makes sence Keith, Like I said I'm not a saddle maker. It doesn't sound so bad now, but I'm sticking to thru the trees.
  4. I'm old fasioned I guess, but I would only buy saddles with strings thru the tree. I use my strings for saddle bags and rifle scabbarts etc. I'm not going to trust my rifle and stuff with a screw, but most people don't do that anymore so screws would probly be ok for parade saddles and such. I'm not a saddle maker but I have put strings on roping saddles just drilling thru and tapping them flat. Just my opinon as a user.
  5. Try esslinger.com, They have everything you need.
  6. I would cut the brand with a beader blade. The backgrounding would just be personal preference, and my preference would be no backgrounding.
  7. Tandy has saddle-lac which is basicaly the same thing. It only comes in a spray can. It's what I use for resist and works good.
  8. I'll buy some of your 1 1/2 inch straps that are 48" long or more. How much?
  9. If you don't get any takers from the new guys pm me.
  10. Show the next piece before you dye it, it will give a better visual for us to critique.
  11. Your leather looks too wet. Let the next piece dry a little more, you should see a burnishing effect and that is probly why you can still see some knife cuts. Good start Troy
  12. I took it with my cannon camera and downloaded it to my pc. The problem probly is it's 35mb, anyway to change that?
  13. I've seen people put 35 minute videos on here but I can't download one thats only 16 seconds. It says the file is too big, can anyone tell me how to do this? Thanks Troy

Nice work, ever tried any of Robb Barr stuff?
  15. I'm very familar with Rio Rondo. I think you might be wrong about Kings tools being to big, I have his medium set and do 5 inch saddles easily with them. The smallest set is really small, the charts don't give a good perception of the size, call him and tell him what you need and he will tell you if they will work for you or not. They're nice people and don't mind talking to you and he hand makes his tools and will make what you need. I have a small basket weave stamp that will put 4 rows on a 7/16" wide belt keeper but I don't remember If it's craftool or King so they're out there.
  16. You done a pretty good job. Is that one of the Rio Rancho kits?. You can get small enough tools for the Sheridan from Barry King.
  17. Yes, treat them same to tool. I've seen some saddles made with buffalo and the tooling was nice.
  18. NavyVet, I hope your grandchildren are girls. Years back I put new fenders on one of my dads old saddles so it would fit my 8 year old nephew. I also put horses on them, He was embarrassed to ride it, lol. And they weren't nearly as colorful as yours.
  19. Looks to me that he did the entire piece that way not just the border, I think I like it.
  20. That's very nice. Did you background before you beveled around the edges?
  21. Ray, I have all the Rob Barr videos, I've done almost all of them but not the eagle head. When I first got into carving it was all Al stolman, I've got nearly every thing he put out also, but the Rob Barr stuff really takes it to another level. I learned more about figure carveing, dyeing and painting from his videos than all the other books and videos put together. I've got a couple of George Hurst also including that one and they are ok. Looks like your tv going to be busy for awhile. Troy
  22. Thanks Thor, I really appreciate your effort in trying to help. Those are 1" conchos with a 3/8 slot, The ones I'm looking for would have approximately 1/8 and 3/16 slots.
  23. Thor, I'm looking for the sizes 3/8" and 1/2" exactly. Yes 3/16 is half the size of 3/8 and they are too small. Rio Rancho doesn't sell any thats bigger than 3/16, and the sites camano ridge suggested doesn't sell anything smaller than 1 inch.
  24. Good deal Ray, how about a picture when you done.
