  1. Sounds like you need more advice than one post can give you. There's a lot of leather working how tos on youtube that will keep you fascinated for days. Good luck Troy
  2. Sounds like you want a creaser tool, look it up on youtube.
  3. George, that's a good looking knife but I have one question, with the handle shaped like that does it feel awkward to use the opposite side of the blade because of the handle being upside down?
  4. I've never had the desire to make a billfold even though I get lots of people asking for them, but I gotta tell you thats beautiful and has me thinking I may have to change my mind. Troy
  5. All these appear to be the same except the widith of the strap. Your pattern doesn't show how far apart the holes are or how long the buckle slot. The bigger the buckle the longer the buckle slot will have to be, the tongue holes will be spaced differently depending on what its used for and the size of buckle, the belt keeper width should vary proportionately with the strap width. I don't have exact measurements for you for each size maybe another member can give you better advice. Troy
  6. You can get large plastic mats that have a nonslip underside made just for protecting floors. I don't know the exact name to search for but it shouldn't be that hard to find.
  7. I don't think they are talking about veg tanned leather, more like upholstery leather. Veg tanned leather will tan in light and it doesn't have to be in sunlight to happen. I ask to have my leather boxed or wrapped in brown shipping paper even when I buy it in person. If you come up with a solution please post it. Troy
  8. don't adhere it to your work station, you'll be needing to turn the piece often. rubber glue it to some cardboard or some kind of backing, or use one sided tape on the back. when your finished just pull the backing off. don't pull the leather pull the backing.
  9. there should be a pullout page in the journals that list all the back issues with the main series of that particular issue, and info for ordering them.
  10. Yes I've used them when I've needed small letters and they'll work fine. I've got a 1/4'' set of craftool stamps also.
  11. Thank you for keeping it simple. Troy
  12. Thanks Jesse, I've heard alot about them servo motors but that's the first i've seen in action. I'm now convinced I gotta have one. Lokking forward to your next video. Troy
  13. Ray, Is the mini saddle the little 5 inch or so? I think it's used for a small lamp base, if so I'd like to buy it. I will probly want it reguardless, if not too much trouble maybe a pic or description. Thanks Troy
  14. I've used tan coat on several belts and like the look but when the belts get wet they get sticky, I can't imagine useing it on saddles. I'm I doing something wrong? I lightly neatsfoot, next day antique, next day tan coat.
  15. deglazer or alcohol
  16. Thank you, If it gets to be a problem let me know and I'll step out.
  17. Is this just for people that will participate in all the projects or can anyone play at any time?
  18. Hi Ray, you can get steel tubing at a hardware place. I have some 3/8'' and 1/2'', it's very sturdy and should hold up nicely for that. I don't think the brake line will hold up but the steel tubing is strong enough to be driven into a piece of wood without bending or blunting.
  19. I have almost every Al Stohlman book made including that exact one, I bought it new about 8 or 9 years ago for $9.95 are you telling me it's now worth 4 to 6 hundred?
  20. Go to an auto parts store and get some rust remover, soak 12 hours (depends on how rusty) and the rust will be gone. Bruce Johnson told me about this, Evaporust or Metal rescue is a soak that will remove the rust and leave the good metal. Then put some light oil on it.
  21. Welcome to the forum, I was born in Buckeye. You've already been given good advice, so good luck.
  22. The reason for casing is for a good burnish when tooling and a crisper and better 3d effect. The drying time will depend on the temperature, humidity and thickness of the leather but it's not uncommon for me to wait 6 to 8 hrs before putting 6/7oz in the fridge. If you put it in the fridge before it's ready then your stopping the drying process. I always case the day before I intend to start carving. If I'm doing a project I can complete in a couple of hours I do NVLeatherWorx method, If it's a large project I do the long casing version because if the moisture is consistant thru out the leather there is less rewetting and the less rewetting the better for the carving.
  23. I think I have that pattern in an old book. I'll go to my shop in a little bit and check for you.
  24. Here's mine, I usually keep it in order but lately I've been swamped.
