Tandy has changed dyes from PRO DYE to ECO-FLO...and after trying the new stuff out for the first time...I am not happy. It's a bummer too because I have a Tandy store just 10 minutes from my work and I always run over there as I need small stuff ( NOT leather).... Ya'll know where I can continue to find this PRO DYE, or something similar...or mo betta??

I'm thinking of a similar project to "carry my stuff in" too, but I don't plan on getting as elaborate as you...I'm thinking of something more like this un... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...me=STRK:MEWA:IT But less us see your progress pleae.

Hill Country!!??? I'm from there, Comfort, to be exact. Welcome aboard Nix, you'll learn a lot here. And look up Paul Long in Kerrville, he's a Major Leauger sheath maker, and a really nice guy.

Very nice work...enjoyed your web site too.

While it is no where near my expertiece area, I recognize fine leather art when I see it...I don't think it's weird at all, I believe it's rather beautiful. Maybe the ladies (or men??) out there in EBAY land don't have anything nice enough to wear with it??
-
WOW Freak...you are indeed a leather artist! Outstanding work!!
-
Freddie, I've started on my watch band/cuffs...I'll make you proud! You mentioned a shop, do you do the leather stuff full-time? R
-
VERY VERY nice...great leather work and it goes with the knife perfectly.

Not beer bottle in sight, sup with that??

clutch purse & Sheridan panel
Rayban replied to Dan Hammons's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I sure would like to spend some time with a Sheridan carver...in a manly sort of way of course....seems like I don't learn much unless someone "shows me" how it's done.... otherwise, I ruin a LOT of good leather..... -
Luis, I urge you to reconsider going to power tools for your work.....hand rubbing, sanding, blisters, band-aids, sweat, poking yourself with the awl, ouch, another band-aid, hand stitching.....what do you want to do, take the romance out of a "hand-made" item????...just razzing you my man.... I guess the other side of the coin is if you're in this as a business and you have to look for efficiencies in your work, right? it's the 21st. Century way.... I like your work and welcome to the forum... RG

Anybody in SE Michigan want to go in on a side of Wickett & Craig leather with me?? I don't use so much and I noticed there are a few others that would rather buy on a "as needed basis"....and since I'm in the dog house so often, I hardly have storage space for much leather! Any interest, let me know.

I have also looked around at other forums, mainly knife related, and some have leather stuff...but this site is far superior I believe. I was asked to tone it down at a Yahoo site because I mentioned that Tandy's dobbers were falling apart on me while I was using them.... But hey, what do I know??? I know what I like, that's what...keep up the good work, and I'm enjoying "exploring" this site. RG

Very impressive spur straps....but about you advertising agency..... Just kiddin, of Coors...get it?? I wear spurs but them would be too pretty to wear where I go...
-
Check out this tutorial, they look very easy to make. http://www.wrtcleather.com/1-ckd/tutorials/_stitchpony.html

I like the concept...hard for me to see the stitching, not your fault, my eyes..... Sounds like you could use a stitching horse..I got a real cheapie at Tandy years ago and I still use it...I believe it's a "must have" for hand stitching..and of course, an awl.. Keep it up, you'll learn with everything you make... RAY

purse for my wife
Rayban replied to Mike Craw's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Mike...nice work. I like your tight attention to detail in your carving. I'm not good at it, mainly because I don't have the patience for it, so I appreciate good work like yours when I see it. Look up Wickett and Craig leather...they are in PA. I believe. I PROMISE you that once you work with this stuff you will never go back to anything else. You are right....and I don't mean to rip on Tandy because I owe so much to them...but ...and I have told my local store mgr. this....their leather is like cardboard next to W&C. And I'm still welcomed back to the store..... R -
Very nice work Larry, I really appreciate the carving as I don't have the patience for it. I've tried it enough tho to recognize fine work when I see it, and yours certainly is that. Show us more!!

I visit the Hill Country about every year, I was born down there, and the mosquitos never bother me....must be the Lone Star pouring out of my pores...

Kerrville is 15 miles West of Comfort on Hwy 10....it's HILL COUNTRY!!! I was born in Comfort...I guess that's why I'm so lazy now....

LARS, I've seen good leather work....and fine knife work...but rarely from the same person. You've got them both going on. I've done some sheaths, and I'm getting into knife kits lately, and your work is inspiration to both...hope to see much more of your stuff.
