  1. Just found this thread. I wanted to comment about the scent question. If you use the soap scent, it is a lighter oil and won't discolor the leather. I have attached a cruddy picture of a bouquet I made that had the scent added. I prefer to use roo for my flowers. I think it gives it a more realistic look.

    Very nice job.
  3. Victor, great job. Thanks for sharing.
  4. I have heard of this before. Is there a way someone can post a side by side comparison pic. Is the difference that dramatic?
  5. Great design. That color looks really good.
  6. Now that is a really nice carving. I really like the feather work. Very very nice.
  7. I really like that floral/skull design. It looks like the flowers are turning into flames. Pretty cool.
  8. Clay and others, Thanks for the compliments and comments. I agree on the decorative cuts. It is something I have been struggeling with for a long while. Maybe one day i'll master it. Now that you mention the stems on the scrolls, I think I will re draw it. That would look good. I never even thought of that. Thanks!
  9. Luke, Thanks. That's an interesting area nowdays, slum on one side, yuppie's on the other. kinda strange. I am around Cicero and Montrose. The whole city is changing man. I can't wait to make a break for it.
  10. Can you post some site addresses so we can see your (company's) work?
  11. I haven't posted anything for a while, so here are a couple items I have done over the past couple weeks. The card cases are done out of roo and colored with spirit dyes. The wallet is turned out ok, I really dont like the colors the customer picked, but I like this design I drew up for this. I have attached uncolored pics of the wallet in progress. I would love to hear some critiques. Take care all. masonic_front1.bmp masonic_front1.bmp
  12. Very nice seat. I still can't get over you using motor oil, but hey if it works right, who am I to say anything. Keep em comin!
  13. Drac, Thanks for the tutorial. Good info.
  14. I would go with Jeff. I just had him make me 3 stamps and it ran me $180 to my door.
  15. Ok, soap is good. But it seems to me your problem is with the tightening. When you tighten the thongs you need to pull them all together, otherwise the one you tighten will slip loose. This and properly soaped thongs are key to getting a nice tight plait. (Of course beveling helps a little too). Keep it tight
  16. Two things. 1. Did you soap or dress your thongs before plaiting? 2. When you tightened your plaits as you were going along did you just pull one or two tight or did you pull all your thongs at once?
  17. Personally, I would love to work for Tandy. I have always wondered how one would go about doing it. Any ideas?????????
  18. I bought my makers stamp from Infinity a few years ago for $150 if I remember right. Great company to deal with. Quick turn around. I just had Jeff Mosby make me 3 custom stamps and they make a great impression. I was a little skeptical, but now that I have been using them, I love them. Extremely quick turn around. I recommend both companies.
  19. Rooms are $79 a night. Competition entries are $2.50 each item for the first 4 items maximum of $10. All entries past that are free.

Welcome aboard. This is a great place to learn. Sit back and relax.
  22. Welcome aboard. Nice looking stuff on the website. Out of curiosity, what kind of engraving equipment are you using on your pieces. I have been thinking about getting into laser engraving and am looking for ideas.
