  1. Most likely you'll want to make some dry runs, then zero-in on exactness. with your new Laser ! Try, retry, and try again, on scrap, before actually getting into cutting your good leather. As guy from Reno suggests Tandy might be a good place to buy first supply's, and for obtaining leather questions, and maybe some Tandy classes here and there to get started ? Vegetable Tanned 1.5 oz - 2.5 oz thickness is where it begins for my wallets. keeps the bulk down somewhat ! but by no means is it limited to that ! As far as thread is concerned that's a matter of preference, and experimentation as far as your particular product is concerned ! Many makers like different types and sizes of thread ! Machine v/s hand sewn etc. I'm sure there is other advise here as well. Laser tips, I have none. Sorry ! Good luck with your new endevor ! Wild Bill46
  2. I know you'll succeed ! and it will be a looker , Are you going to lace it ? Reason for asking is; you have inspired to make a holster for a Hi Point-9mm and I laced it, as alot of yours are ! And a Magazine pouch just might look good to match ? Wild Bill46
  3. I woulden't begin to give you a plan on a holster, your way beyond me, This latest holster is exceptional in that it displays a very nice desert Rose/Leaf pattern with superb backgrounding, and I too, am a fan of your laced holsters. You've done a great job once again Rohn !
  4. Yes to Beautiful mountains, and Yes to Fall Color, And Yes to year of earth occupancy lol! Welcome to our lil part of leather working, here on leatherworker.net . If your ever up around this part of the state, please drop by and we might be able to chat awhile ? ---- Wild Bill46
  5. With these great skulls, and roses, and Top hats, and leafage designs, It reminds me somewhat of Tattoo art ! ... Nice idea here ! The strap is colorful and really catches the eye and it's imagination ! Thanx for sharing . -------------- Wild Bill46
  6. I gotta concur with all these other enthusiast's, I'm excited about your duffelbag and waiting upon completion ! Very nicely done, I gotta make me one soon ! --------- Wild Bill46
  7. Quite nice actually , Even more especially from a newbee ! I'm really fond of how you mixed the appeal of the belt designs ! Congratulations ! Your real lesson is about to begin , you;ll love it ! Wild Bill46
  8. Exceptional looking ! You may not have Will's skills ? I don't know, but he would be honored to have you , I would think ! Your rig is nicely appointed. your stitching looks nice, your carving, stamping, and tooling are nice, color rendition is even and nice as well. Your son will also be honored too , I would think ? One last question ; Where in southwest, Georgia are you located ? In relation to me in Northwest, Georgia ! "Summerville"

No question is stupid, especially if your trying to learn about something new Ask away, and good luck to you throughout your venture. ---- Wild Bill46
  10. I think Legion might be on to something, I'm a bit of a perfectionist, still I can't make every piece look as good as factory, with all their expensive equipment and so on , But I try as I go to better myself, thus less strain and greef, and my learning curve continues, as in a good continuing education. Hope I'm not babeling --- Wild Bill46
  11. Oops, Wrong direction, as opposed to my dry humor. Sorry Colt, No personal indignation intended toward anyone !
  12. Have you seen the wrinkles in both Pat and Vanna ? were all gettin older folks ! lol
  13. My Granite counter top slab was roughly 18"x 24" I got it for next to nothing, at one of those Granite/Marble establishments. its 1-1/4" thick (standard counter top thickness, I beleive) ? even got to pick the color I liked best ! I brought it home on the back of my Harley ! I have a 3/4" plywood/w/-laminated masonite top on my desk, and I've had Zero troubles with it there. I'm of the opinion thicker is better ! Good luck with your choice. Wild Bill46
  14. You would most likely love the temperature for-casted for today here in N.W. Georgia. high 72*-low 52* My comfort zone is between high 82*-low 65* Thus; there is where I keep my warm comfortable heat set at. I say To each his own ! I'm thinking there is no universal heat temperature setting. I'm in posession of an old-timey 6-brick/firedog NG heater, I will use this heater for as long as it lasts, I've had it nearly 30-35 years now and I love it ! Good luck with your completion of installation. you;ll be just fine ! ---- Wild Bill46
  15. I wanted to also say, There are so many leather products you need to EXPERIMENT with different products, to see what you can come up with to suit yourself. Have fun with what your doing !
  16. One of my processes is; STAIN FIRST, Dry 24 hours! Then EDGECOAT the edges, Dry 24 hours ! here it changes to either Mink oil or Sno Cream for conditioning, Dry 24 hours ! Then apply Top Coating, with 24 hour intervals between however many coats you deem necessary. Good luck ----Wild Bill46
  17. The idea of a concealed, yet open carry holster, is indeed intriguing food for thought, How does it set on the pant belt ? or does it need its own belt ? Quick thinking is sometimes a necessary necessity, But it still looks good ! Wild Bill46
  18. I think this is a fantastic piece of ART, Your Lacing is really superior looking ! And goes with both your tooling/backgrounding and coloring. As I've come to expect in a Roan piece. Always look forward to your next work, --- Wild Bill46
  19. I'm with Emilly, I like it too ! The stain actually goes well with the colors you chose Good job, Nice project ! --- Wild Bill46
  20. I agree this BELT for your Grampa is "Top Notch", I'm sure he'll enjoy replacing his old plucky with his Grand Daughters version. Great job ! ---------- Wild Bill46
  21. Cognac it may be ! However, different dyes from different manufactures are called different names ! If you found something that resembles your color and its manufacturer ?(color, name, or number) ? use that ! Most likely that's as close as you will get without a long drawn out hunting process ! Good luck Wild Bill46
  22. I think were all saying the same thing here, but in different words, let me try ! Angles are hard to drill straight yes ! So Glue all necessary pieces together beforehand, Now Drill all together while flat, Now Skive, Now Sew into already aligned holes. Hope this is understandable and will help you . ----- Wild Bill46
  23. You've incorporated some nice extra ideas into your Big Ass Wallet, Looks great ! I'm sure "Hi I'm Joe" will be pleased ! ---- Wild Bill46
