Holding the swivel knife is only frightening at first (not hard to master) strive for perpendicular tilted back slightly, using the back corner to cut with ! Your examples look nice !   19. Everyone has a prefered method or idea in mind ! My thought was, because I've never had this presented to me before, I thought about, using a hair tool to simulate a woodgrain effect might work for you, Then stain and antique as you would any other project that was tooled ? Still, keep on experimenting with colors on scrap, that might be worthy for you in the future. And Antiqueing is also an alternative you might explore when money isen't as tight !
