You have a good grasp on your leather crafting. It looks as though its thought out and properly constructed. I like the size alot, for a carry on bag. if you don't mind my asking what are its dimensions ? As with the others, I like your Mexican braiding, It sets this bag apart. --- Wild Bill46

LoudOne..This is almost exactly like what we called shaving kits during my time in the military. Its not exactly as the pattern tboyce and fannninator have layed out, but, Different styles and modes of operation, this exersize, is understood completely All who have displayed their project for the month so far, are definitely definitely doing well, As Cardinal says its the development, design, hands on experience, which is the lesson/fun/project. plan! such talent in one place is unheard of in most instances. ---------- Congratulations all --- Wild Bill46 -

From Sketch To Leather - Harley
Wild Bill46 replied to RavenAus's topic in Motorcycles and Biker Gear
Quite nice ! You have given me a new direction to think about in how to go about a pattern for my vest. I have the tutorial and pattern although it is the wrong size for me, just diden't know how to go about sizing it for myself. Mannequin ? Thanx RavenAus Wild Bill46 -
Agree with Monica about thread use, I don't care for the heavy waxed thread either. As you most likely experienced as in your first photo the grey threads are most likely wax build-up ? BUT As per BigMatt; If this is your first time event, your are already way past most, in their first endeavor. Your design and its execution are super nice, and crisp. Congratulations. Wild Bill46

Casing, Stamping And Whether A Backing Is Needed On 4-5Oz
Wild Bill46 replied to Roux's topic in How Do I Do That?
Hi Roux, Welcome to LWN, Here is the best place for you to explore for a leather experiences. Molst of these people here, are forthcoming and generous with their experiences. Firstly: Yes it is fair to say, The thinner the leather the more it stretches, just don't over think it. You may stamp 4-5 oz. quite well, and you may use taped backing if you like its a personal preference. some do, some don't ! I don't think it makes any difference if you tape before or after either, others may contend ? As for the order of things, After casing yes, leather becomes more plyable, but I like to edge and punch while dry. try it both ways to for yourself. Have fun with this craft. I hope I have addressed your questions where you can understand wholy. -------- Wild Bill46 -
Yes , It appears you have solved some of your own Questions. I've always liked the two sided pocket design, And it works ok. but would have used as thin a leather interior as I could get, maybe to 1.5 - 2 oz. for both pockets and insides. Your ok so far, Size ? 3 1/2" x 4 1/2" might be a good standard to go from. and maybe a 5/8" thickness ? I would think you would make your carving design to the size of the billfold not the other way around ? But it will still, work and be ok. Yes to applying your pockets to a partition, but only sew them on the inside vertical, then either sew or lace them all around the perimeter, as one. search this site , there are many, many good ideas from great crafts people and almost as many styles of billfolds. All in All you have a pretty nice beginning project, It will all work ok, but will be a thicker piece than wanted. Hope this will help in some way --- Wild Bill46

Help! There Seems To Be Something Wrong...
Wild Bill46 replied to Krystian's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
The orders for other belts will be coming in soon ! That is a very nice belt in spite of all your woes. --- Wild Bill46 -
I too wanted to say a Thank You Fanninator and also to the Others who contributed to this list of helpful, smiling faced vendors. I had some fairly good TLF classes in the beginning too !, Then the sell, sell, sell push came around and the company, as I see it, has gone down hill ever since. Good reasons, already stated. Our nearest store has now gone under but that's OK There's not much I really need from the big TLF, but I actually continue to search for a good one in each new city that I explore, Maybe that's due to those first lessons to a craft, I now so enjoy. ? --- Again thanx Ya All --- Wild Bill46

I feel as the majority here does. Haven't had the opportunity to use Tiger yet, but from what I read, its a strong medium, and would most likely outlast your pockets, Which appear to be a thing of beauty ! --- Wild Bill46

Realm13 Fortunately I live in a single dwelling house with my wife. No problems with noise, even while she sleeps. I only have a desk to work from though. and that sits on carpet. when punching, or snap setting I use either a pound-o board or a dressmakers plastic mat. over my granite slab. nothing below the slab, still no problems either way. Another thought might be, "a Tool Box Mat" Hope your neighbors appreciate your concerns. --- Wild Bill46

This photo looks more like the bag we used while in the military. We called them shaving kits. Their extremely useful for many things and long lasting, especially with a zippered top. It used to be - you could see them everywhere, now ? not so much, ??? I think karina's idea for canvas bags has merit, I'll try to keep that idea in mind. Good luck to both of you ! Wild Bill46 -
You might possibly use T---y Poundo Boards 12x12 # 3461-01 12x24 # 3461-02 to go under your granite or marble slab to eliminate some noise. I also remember reading someone somewhere say they used Carpet. hope this will help with your neighbors ? Earplugs ? No, maybe not ! ------ Wild Bill46

Great work Monica The croc print is a really nice looking touch. Is it a wrap as is ? or are you planning to maybe use Sam Brown buttons on end of straps ? Its still nicely done ! ------ Wild Bill46 -
