Dipping My Feet In The Leatherworking Pond
Wild Bill46 replied to LostViking's topic in Getting Started
Welcome To LWN +++ Lost Viking You have found a wealth of information, and leatherworkers here, from all over the world. We try hard to be of help to one another, if possible. As benlilly1 says there is alot to look at here. Get comfortable and enjoy yourself. -
Earthling 33 I would concur with the majority here. I went against the grain of good advise too to start with, in getting a maul . I soon found out, I was wrong, a Maul WAS the way to go ! even though it cost a bit more. Take your time, learn to use it well . Now that I have one I use it for everything, Tooling, setting snaps, rivets, strap end cutting, etc. I would also recommend a 16oz maul to start , you can always move up at will. Also would like to welcome you to LWN, the best leather spot on the net, There is a wealth of friendship and knowledge here, Just ask And Good Luck in all your Leather Endeavors.

As you have viewed all the videos available, you might check into Classes being offered at a Tandy store nearest you ? There are usually beginners, intermediate, and advanced classes, and each offers some sort of a kit to complete that class, keep the tools acquired and now you have a starting tool collection,.and the instructors help along the way. some are one time classes, others go on for weeks. some of these new classmates friendships can last a lifetime too ! Just a suggestion, hope it might help !

Rifle Butt Cuff
Wild Bill46 replied to a9mmfan's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Really, a neat-O-idea, I need to make one of these Butt ends for mine too. For only a second attempt, your tooling looks fine, stitching will get better as time passes too ! They say, Practice makes perfect, And it does. But, I still like it, as is ! -
Joe, ___________ I too, like your Big Ass pattern, Normally I make what I call Trucker Wallets, favored by lots of bikers as well. I couldn't agree more, a longer wallet does spread everything out inside of it. but too because it is spread out, it sits more evenly with the body, making it less tiring. I have driven many hundreds of miles with mine in same pocket. I had gotten to where I hated that lump on my hip, for this reason I like trucker style wallets. your design looks so interesting can't wait to make one. Thanx for putting your new Big Ass design up.

Rosiart, I have made numerous short, and long wallets now, and I like making them, (my long Bill folds are 5 pocket) ( my short, are two) But I especially like the cleanliness of your lines. your stitching looks very even, and straight, Your chosen outside color is nice too, what color is it called ? What kind of leather was used, for inside and out ? , if you don't mind my asking ? I know without a doubt Your DH will Cherish that Bill fold for a long time to come ! nice looking bill fold, great job ! -
