  2. It is a lacing needle, you can find it in a Tandy store.
  3. G`day Josh. I have no source for sewing awl handles to suggest. I have though an old awl handle which I´m going to duplicate, and I have found out that a possible start for a ferrule would be a .22 Hornet cartridge brass would be a start, to make a ferrule for a sewing awl. I´ll turn the handle from moose antler. / Knut
  4. "Horrible Trouble Dying I JUST CANT GET IT RIGHT" Dying often comes naturally and happens only once in a lifetime, so brother, be cool! / Knut
  5. Hej Mattias. / Knut
  6. The hog rings are used in upholstery work on car seats. Using them on a pigs nose must be considered cruel!
  7. Terve! You might try: www.pepesladervaror.se/ or www.jerndahls.com/ in Sweden. / Knut Where are you located in Finland?
  8. What causes most problems with the Boss are short strokes. The handle must be pulled to end stops, top and bottom. Also, I have had three Boss machines and they need to be lubricated as they are almost dry from the factory. / Knut
  9. Merry Christmas to all Leatherworkers from Oldtimer, Sweden

  10. You will find a lot of information here : http://www.classicbells.com/verlane/verlane.html This will keep you busy during Christmas! / Knut
  11. Hi No, I have changed my mind about selling my Boss. I have put it in a box for possible future use. To find a used Boss here i Europe is almost impossible. If you find one, here or in the US, make sure it is the cast iron model, as the aluminium model is a piece of crap, and don´t expect to get customer service from Tippmann on this side of the Atlantic. I learned that the hard way. / Knut
  12. Jag råkade tappa min Delrinstämpel i golvet o det gick en bit ur den så nu har jag köpt en i graverad mässing från Linköpings stämpelfabrik , dyr men hållbar! / Knut
  13. I make mostly unpadded slings , on the cobra slings I sew thin split leather to the back side to keep it from sliding off the shoulder. I try to keep the slings as light as possible so they won´t make the shooting unsteady if they swing from side to side. On my own hunting rifles I have a plain 1" sling, no fancy stuff, as I prefer function before beauty when hunting . / Knut
  14. Here is a link to Tärnsjö tannery in Sweden. You can ask them if their leather is available in Germany, or, they might sell directly to you. http://tarnsjogarveri.se/remlader.php / Knut
  15. Hi lj I make my rifle slings from 4-4,5 mm leather / knut
  16. Here is a pic of a head knife (left) and a round knife ( right) and there is a significant difference in shape. I found the head knife in a flea market: It was a 6" Blanchard round knife with a 1 1/2" crack into the blade, and the handle and brass ferrule was smashed so I made it into a rescue project. Cut off the cracked metal with a grinder, glued the handle pieces together, threw the ruined brass ferrule into the metal recirculation. I cut off the damaged parts of the handle and glued it to the blade and the ruined Blanchard round knife started a new life in my shop as a Blanchard head knife. It is one of my favorite knives for tight corners and intricate cuts! The round knife is an old H.Gomph, and you can see by its shape that it is more suited for long straight cuts and skiving than the head knife. / Knut
  17. Things would be much easier and understandable if the metric system would be used in your part of the world! / Knut
  18. Thank´s for the info. We have cancelled the buffalo leather saddle project, and the saddle will be made from cow leather. The buffalo hides will be tanned into buffalo robes. One robe for my coach is part of the deal! / Knut
  19. Art, In my world the head knife is used for intricate cutting and the round knife for straighter or long curved cuts ! And my round knives are generally bigger than head knives ! / Knut
  20. Hey JW. You have apparently been a busy man, and producing very fine saddles. My compliments! / Knut
  21. My thought on that question : The main, general difference between the old time saddles and the saddles of today is design , and I don´t see much differences in function more than the saddle trees of today in general are more well shaped to fit a horse´s back. Horses have changed a lot the last century so you can not use an old time saddle , say from 1880 on a modern, grain fed horse. The tree is too narrow. My 2 cents.. / Knut
