  5. I taught myself to trade commodities and stocks and set up a portfolio for my family. It takes about 15 minutes a day to monitor it so I play and teach golf, leatherwork, and music. 7 years on the road and 5 years before that in partnership with 3 others in a recording studio in California. Recorded LOT's of Sting, Van Morrison, movie soundtracks etc. Mostly I wrote "jingles" for Chevrolet, Macy's, Joseph Magnins, Lucky and Safeway stores. etc.. College rodeo and pre-vet school before that. I fish when it's too cold or windy to play golf Moved to arkansas 15 years ago- best thing that I ever did. pete
  6. that's a really neat look to the rope borders! Do you use any rope tool or do you just carve the rope?peteNice touch on the lettering!! That's a great idea to use a mule foot around the seeder.Mind if I use your idea?pete
  7. I really want to see this one when its done! Is that your pattern And where is the hair going? pete
  8. you can start right here! Look under patterns and templates and put sheridan in the search. I know that I have posted 5-6 original sheridan belt patterns myself in the past. pete
  9. do all of you groove BOTH sides of a project when hand stitching, or just the front? How is the best way to get the awl to pierce the exact center of the back groove? pete
  10. Really Beautiful work! Tell me (and others I'm sure) What tool/s do you use to get the cross cut circles? I have always cross hatched with a swivel knife but when I make the "cross" cuts they tend to close up the original cuts. Your's stay open and wide. Am I cutting them while too wet? Not using a wide enough blade, etc? thanks so much for posting and Merry Christmas pete
  11. very nice work my friend! Must be the Henly knife(Kidding).. nice construction and I can't really fault the lacing job! Stay well and Merry Christmas. pete
  12. Thanks for the reply. If I send you the knife, would you be interested in making the sheath? pete
  13. here a fixed knife that I am getting for self protection. Have ay of you ever tried earth magnets inside the sheath to hold it better? I am wanting to make a sheath for it so that I can wear it horizontally on my belt with a clip. ps- if it works feel free to steal the idea I could be a new line of sheaths!
  14. I sure did Harvey. You're very welcomed too! I got the BIG book- Leather Secrets(I think)! 3 horse heads on the cover stay well and Merry Christmas pete
  15. If you're not going with a pre-cut blank, why not cut 2 strips at least 8-9 oz and simply spilt them That way you would have 2 strips exactly the thickness that you want. pete
  16. I just got my F O Baird book from a NY estate sale online. Whoever posted it a few weeks ago----thank you!! I paid the full $45.00 and am a kid in a candy store. What a great find I've always wanted it but the price put me off. I'm going to will this to my children-even if they never take to leatherwork. pete
  17. REeally nice pieced! How did you do the grooves between the squares? The are so wide yet so clean! Did you use a stitching groover? Merry Christmas! Be of good cheer and get a project going that you are excited about. CREATE!!! pete
  18. I've done a few veg/calf or deer albums lately. The calf and deer don't burnish but I have burnished the veg and then glued the backing on afterwards. If you then carefully trim the liner on a flat table and slightly angle your head knife or scalpel it gets real close. You still have an unfinished liner but it looks really nice- especially if you sew it after. pete
  19. I don't understand why you couldn't sew all the way around? Did anything protrude on the top to keep you from sewing or did you do it on a machine? And if so- couldn't you finish the top by hand sewing? pete
  20. It's going to be a portfolio for an artist.(Large watercolor/pen&ink, etc)
  21. I DID have a girl ask me to make her chaps once. She pronounced it: CHaps" rather than sshhhaps. I told her to lick her lips real good and stand out in the wind for awhile. pete
  22. Harvey- they are in the mail ENJOY!!! pete
  23. forgot to add- it's the sub-compact model and I'm right handed. pete
