Really great! I especially love the design of the beveled line running up through the basketweave and how it tucks in at the end. Very well thought out design. Care to post the design? How about a number of sections to print out for actual size??!!!!!!???

Is there any reason that you couldn't do a first edition and post it here? I'de LOVE to be able to click on 1 place a month and get new ideas and patterns, etc. pete

I agree- and there is definitely a lot of interest. Look at all of the views already! It wouldn't have to be big. Just lot's of tips, close-ups of techniques, and patterns. Limit the advertising to almost nothing and charge to get it. Limit the articles and "stuff" that I never read after waiting 2 mos for the Leathercrafters Journal. Good magazine and I await each issue but I never get enough practical stuff each issue. sign me up pete

Hides- did I miss something on your new webpage/newsletter? Do I need to subscribe to get it? I filled out the form and sent it but is there a fee?? pete

Getting better at knife sheath
pete replied to CollinsMS's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
just so that you know(unless I didn't see the foto correctly) bevel the INSIDE of the basketweave TOWARDS the basketweave- not to the outside of the line pete -

I like it very much. you might have beveled the INSIDE border of the basketweave and perhaps gone around it with a tool. Also, deeper with the basketweave- the leather is plenty thick enough. Finishing off the edges would have been nice too. I really like the overall design given the shape of the handle. good work pete -
where exactly are the magnets? Under the concho? pete

Accessories for the Alligator Buckle posted last week

Could you show a REALLY REALLY close-up of the boots? Are the dollars tooled, laminated, what???? -
I REALLY don't care for the George Hurst videos(with him in it) but he produces some good ones with Jim Linnell and Chan Geer. Get the ones on making a sheridan notebook (Chan) and Sheridan style leather carving with Jim. To read, get the big Stohlman leather book. It's about 24" wide and 12" high and has a brown/sepia colored cover. A great book to get the visual feel for using the tools. Don't feel that this is the only order in which to complete a piece, but if you do then you can't go wrong. I just prayed for a successful operation, fast recovery, and to guide the doctors hands. Through Christ, all things are possible. pete

I notice that stingray is becoming really popular for inserts and such. I've also seen that comment that a lot of you are breaking needles. Am I going to have any trouble using a regular home model singer if I'm only sewing through a small(+/- 1 oz)skin and 1-1.5 oz wallet lining? please advise as I have never used a sewing machine and I'm going to get my wife to do it.!!!!! pete

anybody know where I can find 1-2 oz BLACK wallet inserts? I've tried all over the web. Chaylor(?) has them as does tandy but everybody only has tan or brown. I have a nice stingray but no insert!!!! any information would be most appreciated pete

don't apply the neats with a foam brush. It doesn't go on evenly enough, the foam creates bubbles and it's probably not heavy enough an application. Put it on with a sheep scrap in circular motions. Put it out in the sun to dry and age. then the RTC or neatlac- buff and then the sheridan paste. Don't have any? it's just med brown and mahogany mixed together . pete

Jack- Kudos to you for another fine case! I really like the tooling that Ron did regardless of what others are posting. I can attest(having done a case for you) that I found it a real challenge to produce a pattern that was beautiful and flowing given the small spaces that I had to work with. I think that if you posted another picture of a close-up with your hand in the foto, it would give folks a better idea as to how small the space is with which to work! Great job to you and Ron. respectfully pete

Tanner Scotch Flask
pete replied to ElVaqueroMuerto's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
fantastic work! did you carve the letters and were they inverted stamping: or really cool stamps? -
really nice!! Who did the carving and would you mind posting some close-ups? pete

I agree. That is a way to tell about the tanning process. If it smells like cat urine or thereabouts when you wet it, it was probably tanned in Mexico with an arsenic solution. Very common solution there and other places. pete

Beautiful work!!! Tel me(us) how do YOU do the quilted look on the fenders, etc? Do you cut a line and bevel both sides and stamp a seeder, draw the lines, stamp and then cut,....... I've wanted to do this on a purse but didn't know the correct procedure. thanks and great work again! pete

15+ years with a mallet. went to the ASB poly mallet and hated it. Kept slipping off the tool. Went with a poly maul(B. King as a matter of fact) and loved it from the first whack. NO learning curve- it's an extension of your hand- no slipping either. More natural feel too. pete

JREDDING_ No need to apologize. My son is really smart and cool and knows that he will have to do what he has to to afford the gas to get to school(and the insurance that we now made him responsible for paying) as to the ones with whom he works...... they DON'T know how to tie their shoes or complete a sentence!! I don't eat fast food for that reason alone!!!! They CAN pick their nose, pass wind AND wrap a double cheese burger simultaneously though. pete

ok- I'll see your $10.00 and raise it to $20.00. I was simply giving an example to work from. By the way- my son works at McDonalds for a summer job. They started him at $7.25/hr.
-
perhaps start with a figure that pays what you feel is fair to you. Say $8-9.00/hr? then add in the cost of the material and add on after that. I charge more for really good calf and kangaroo lace than cheap lace, etc. just a thought. pete

I go to Springfield leather more than I need to but I'm always on the lookout for tools/stamps. I see basketweave tools all the time and don't trust that they are consistent. Take a piece of your child's PLAYDOUGH with you. . Flatten it out like a pancake and press the tools into it lightly. Not only can you see what it is going to look like later but it's a great way to practice basketweave patterns on your final project. Don't waste leather practicing if you don't have to! Playdough doesn't stick to the tools so Kevin won't get mad at you either. Also- I have 7 flower center tools. I numbered each one on the shaft and stamped each one on a 1/4" belt strip with the number next to it. It lays in the tool holder behind the row of tools. This is really neat when you are doing a flower and want the perfect center to match it. When I was beginning I just grabbed what I thought would look good, whacked it and realized that the center didn't compliment the design , was too big, too small, etc. pete

Photo album and registration paper binder
pete replied to Elton Joorisity's topic in Books, Journals and Photo Albums
did you make the beader by sharpening it? Did you heat it to use or just case and push? How did you attach the rings with no screws showing? Could you post a picture of the inside ? thanks you are an inspiration! pete
