I know some here have talked about taps but now one has said thay have made them. so it may be time to get out the card board and come up with a pattern. looks like most are in like 3 peaces the sides and bottom and top front is laces up. Some are big so you might put sheep skin in them to keep toes wormer. Russ

  9. Well as you can see from the pics my sewing is geting some better and with the stiff center this time made a better bag. Just harder to sew. The patter was taken off a old saddle of mine so thay match. In the morning im heading to get some conchose to to put the handles on then will be done. I was just wonder what the saddle guys put on saddles to keep them kinda light. The last one I just used saddle oil on and look ok but not great shine with that . Here is some pics and Ill put up more when I have the handles on it

  12. how about lacing it on with wet rawhide and let the rawhide pull it tight for you. on my last rope bag I used rawhide around rope to shrink tight for a handle. Russ
  13. well the pressure washer is the the best thing but I have did and work ok just after you done washing it let it dry off then oil it good. I use a good oil and gave it 2 good coats out side on a hot day so it soaked in nice and that saddle is still good today and that was 15 years ago boy is was dirty. Russ
  14. Well that saddle shere looks like my old kids saddle that is from the Colorado saddle. nice little saddle like a 13 inch seat I bet and around here in SD in good shape and oiled would be no more them 450 for one. Just my thoughts. Russ
  15. splice it with masters glue and would be like splicing the lace on a billfold if you mike a nice long splice the braid will grip it and it will be good Russ
  16. well im not shere the ones your looking at are big enuf to sew as think of leather as you may want. I just bought a toro 3000 and will sew 3/4 thick and a dream to run. Even for a guy starting out. the other day Dad ripped a drap on our swather so we maked off 2 old ones and glueed and sewed it with the toro 3000 and it is working great. I hat to say some times better to just bite the bullet and get a new thing with a dealer that will stand behind it for you. Russell
  17. Well the biggest thing with selling old paint or buck is that with the horse market the way it is. cant Hardly give a horse a way 1 The next guy dont want to feed them eather but with gas prices you guy better just put up some hitching rails and get up early throw that saddle and ride and save gas. I do under stand most can not do this but when im working at the sale barn this summer im riding 6 miles each way. saves me gas works the horse and not pay for the 4 buck a gal gas Russ
  18. Haying here in South Dakota looking great. Making mostly round but the little squares are next week and we pick and stack with the bobcat make it faster and my back feels better. ON the other hand if I stacked them by and I would be in a lot better shape! Some here this year running over 2 ton to the arce lots better then . 5 last year Russ
  19. If some one would know where I might get new blades or hole knives IM looking for 2 more of them there cool knives to use. If I could find just blades I can get new handles made for them. thanks Russell
  20. Here is a pic of a old swivel knife this one is steel and some are plastic. If you get one shap there vary nice for share corners and a neat little tools. One pic is the tool with the box and the paper that came with it . the other is some fresh cuts made with it. When you get is sharp if cuts vary nice and smoth. The one in the pic was sent to us from a vary nice guy by the name of clint from Iawa that we met in sheridan at the show.It was build by H&S Mfg. in Santa Monica CA. Russell
  21. how about the mercury that is sale here in the for sale adds. I used one of a friend and it was vary nice to use. not shere if it would work is a little biger but as thay as bigger is better. Russell
  22. well im not shere but was told if you buy the object from like Harly Davidson and then you put it on some that is ok. that is what dad duse for harly stuff for fokes. that way he did not make the decale or badge or some thing like that. He just made what it is on. Russell
  23. for shere on the planes cheaper then the horses. I have Biplane and pa28 for shere the horse cost me more Russell
  24. Howdy the 8 to 9 oz is the think ness of the leather and if im thinking right it is about 1/4 inch. As for a good place to get the leather your local tandy or you can call Sheridan leather outfiters and thay can ship you what you might need. The thing about swap meets and yard sales you never know hold old the leather is and lot's of times the old leather is hard and tuff to work with. Russell ps mp me if you need a number for sheridan leather
  25. ok from a guy that has used a cheat strap make it big enuf to hold your butt in the saddle if you need it to that is why you put it on. I use one on colts for about the first 30 rides then I take it off the colt should be handing good enuf by then. The breakaway ID is not bad untell it break when your trying to keep your rear in the seat. IF you use it like a barback riggen to hold your self in it works vary well. Better to hang on then get the colt thinking he can get you off. I do beleave that it not for every one and for shere not on the saddle all the time and is not a place to hang thing on the saddle. Russell
