I was given my mom's old saddle that I roped a lot with. I was thinking about making a rope bag so made this rope bag to match the saddle. It is 23 inches acrost and 6 inches thick for ropes my biggest thing yet. I bummed a friends sewing machine and tried my hand at that to learned a lot next time a thinker leather , about 20 inches , and I need to use a sewing machine more befor the next one.It is just oiled and thinking im going to just use RTC Sheridan finish on it. The handles are hooked on with raw hide sewed to shrink on the rope. thank all for talk a look Russ

superchute replied to ClayB's topic in Special Events, Contests and Classes
rember you can put it in a pic file and then print it 8x10 or 5x7 or 4x6 ezzzzzzzzzzzz russ -
I use a dremal to for the holes but is use a #56 drill bit that is about 3/4 of the size of a 1/16 and the hole is fillled better and if you use a single speed dremal you can but a sewing machine foot controle to help you line up on the holes. Some times we drill it on a 45% to sew in the bottom or top in things Russ

Im not shere but have been told some use a dremal with # 56 drill bit to make the holes. then use two needles to sew it. You might want a sewing machine foot feed to slow it down. Just my thoughts Russell

I my self dont makes saddles but I'm shere most makers have made a speck saddle or two like house builders. The four things to look at when building them are size , shape, for work or for show. My self i would look at some thing around 15.5 inch seat tooled some but not full to keep the price and time down just kinda a show case thing. You need to show what you can do but dont go over board on it. Just my thoughts Russell

the only thing I can say is I like the straps on the inside and buckle on the out side so you can put them on with one hand and less bulk under your leg like the strap Russell
