  1. I've built Nigel's iPad case from his pattern set (and videos) and it turned out perfectly. I don't know what kind of leather you're looking for...and I don't know where you can buy small quantities of good quality leather as most places that sell small quantities usually will just send you questionable quality leather, hoping you won't notice or care enough to make them take it back. If you can afford a side of leather, I'd recommend Wickett & Craig...I've always been happy with the quality of their leather.
  2. If you tell Ryans that you want first class or priority mail, they will gladly do that for you. They always ship my stuff 1st class mail, no problem. You can use 1st class for up to 13 ounces.
  3. Your question is far too vague to answer...sending you a PM...
  4. He's not looking for 1.25" buckles. He's looking for 1.75" width.
  5. Oh, good. So you did finally end up trusting me and buying a manual from him. Glad it worked out for you. I knew it would.
  6. If you don't care how it looks, use the speedy stitcher. If they were mine, I would saddle-stitch to repair them. Other option is to take them to a proper shoe repair business and have them stitch them back up with one of their machines.
  7. Ryan's Products (whom I linked to above) has a website and will often ship your order the same day...no playing around with leaving messages, waiting for catalogs, calling one hour a day, etc. and his prices are great. No affiliation other than as a customer.
  8. Right. That's why I said I use pull-the-dot snaps to prevent that.

    How To

I don't get it. What is your question??
  10. I make those with snaps so it can be removed or put on without unbuckling the belt. If they need extra security, I use pull-the-dot snaps.
  11. Go to your local army surplus store and get a "PT" mat. You should be able to get used ones for just a few bucks. Half inch closed cell foam...should be perfect for this.
  12. Yeah, goodsjapan didn't always have free shipping, but their prices are still quite a bit higher on pretty much everything than leathercrafttools.com. I don't have any affiliation with either one except as a customer and I don't order from goodsjapan anymore after I saw how much lower the prices are at leathercrafttools.
  13. Yeah, it's Seiwa...not Siewa. I like them too, but I wish they had higher SPI ones available. Also, I'd recommend checking with LeathercraftTools.com as they have many of the same items as GoodsJapan, but better prices and cheaper shipping, in my experience. Their "LC Diamond Punch Pro" tools look a LOT like my Seiwa ones I bought in Tokyo...
  14. Yeah, I've talked to Dan. I'd like to hear from others that have used this machine. Thanks.

    Help With Braid

The Grant encyclopedia is a good reference to have, but if folks really want to learn from good pictures and illustrations, there are much better books to choose from out there. For instance, Braiding Fine Leather by David Morgan covers the question asked by the OP two years ago. Hopefully they've long figured it out by now, but hopefully this will help someone else with the same question.
  16. Anyone have any info about the Randall 81TB machine? Is it basically a clone (like the others) of the Fortuna? Is it considered better than the chinese ones? Anyone ever used one? I did see the video by Campbell-Randall demoing it (well the 81AB bottom feed model anyway), just looking for more info if anyone has any. Thanks
  17. I think his point was that if you have to ask these questions, you are nowhere even near ready to try something like this...and he's correct. That's not being mean. It's the truth. Basically the same as I was trying to get across in my post, but zuludog put it better than I did. If you want a direct answer, you'll need to devote a lot of time and effort into mastering the machinesame used to do this as well as learning how to actually design and construct this stuff. That doesn't happen overnight. It takes a solid investment of time and energy to do this and I'd expect a minimum of a couple of years ardent study would need to be put in before beginning to understand these things. Not the answer anyone wants to hear, but that doesn't make it mean or untrue. So yes, if someone is asking these questions then no, they aren't anywhere close to ready to try this. I mean, I guess you can try, but don't get upset and frustrated when you realize when you start running into problems.
  18. Yeah, I've seen the video before...I'll need better pics than that to replicate it.
  19. There is a large learning curve between just "making a piece of tactical gear" and "making a piece of tactical gear people are willing to pay for"...there's also a LOT more to making tactical gear than just operating a sewing machine.
  20. Well, I thought my plough gauge was fast... If anyone can produce better pictures, I might be able to come up with some drawings and/or prototype which I could post full dimensions, specs, etc. for...
